I usually am not a fan of a lot of internal dialogue and angst. This book had plenty of it. However, the internal dialogue was seemed important to the author so one could fully understand the characters. Although at times it dragged overall it was not so awful. There were moments of insecurity, shame, guilt, grief, anger, misunderstandings and honest reflection. It was too people trying to get to know each other under extremely strange and distraught circumstances. I loved the concept of this story. I just would have left out a lot of the inner dialogue and added more substance to the story. I feel there is room for improvement.
Lady Isabella fat-er is heartless as they come his only love is for his son and estate. Even her mother never showed any love it concern for her.He betrothed her the the beast , the duke is known to be a monster disfigured etc. Upon seeing his face after vows she faints.
Little time goes by she see the man that he is and realized her father is truly a beast. Love come finds us where we least expect it.
I really loved this book sweet and wonderful
A wonderful romance between Isabella and the Duke of Coldwell, the monster of the county. Excellent plot and great characters.
ONE INTERESTING READ!!!
Oh my, rocky road! A whirlwind of emotions and events that pulls at those heartstrings. All the drama, fear, uncertainty, dread, torment and intrigue increases while tension spirals as the plot thickens. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises that make for one incredible experience. The characters are complex and believable with such depth and individuality it’s easy to relate. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Bridget did an amazing job bringing this read to life. Fantastic job Bridget, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
I really enjoyed this historical romance Beauty and the Beast! Isabella and Elliott had a lot of scars that needed healing, and it was sweet to see them as they sought to help each other. I will be adding Bridget Barton to my list of authors! But you should definitely read the extended ending!
When a lonely and abused girl is sold by her evil father to a Duke everyone calls “the monster”, how can she look into his face without fear and reach into his scarred soul to help him heal? And in helping him, can he help her soul recover too?

I loved this! Not only were the main characters wonderful but they were detailed, built upon and truly characters that tugged at your heartstrings. Not to say they were perfect. They made mistakes, but their hearts were always in the right place so it was more endearing or sad than hateful or spiteful. I was completely lost in the story and felt each pain of each character. I even loved the side characters, I truly wish I could read more on the supporting cast because they were the most wonderful of people (I kind of hoped they would get together in the end but to no avail). The ending was happy and I breathed a sigh of relief that the characters got the happiness they had long been denied and deserved. A really wonderful book. I will be reading more by this author for sure. I am only left wondering what happened with Anthony…
Allow a full day for this Regency twist of Beauty and the Beast.
Interesting retelling of Beauty and the Beast. This book is a quick, fun, easy read. The Isabella, Elliot and Esme were all well-developed characters. There was some suspense and a slow growing romance. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
I loved this book so much.
I’m thinking a 3.5.
I loved the overarching plot line and the characters. My heart fluttered at the more intimate moments, and I found myself tearing up a bit during the resolution.
This is a clean read, which isn’t obvious from the description, so I found myself anticipating steam that never occurred. The formatting, although odd, is easy to read. There were a few instances where the quotation marks were missing or different symbols, as well as a few other typos that pulled me out of the moment.
The only thing that really got under my skin was the repetition of ideas or statements, sometimes multiple times, the long-winded way of phrasing things, and the habit of showing AND telling–also oftentimes repetitive. Although these are meant to prolong the story, they did so by delaying or interrupting the action. These made it easy to get lost in the middle of scenes, and to put the book down and wander off. This plot would have been better served by 60,000 words rather than 80,000.
I recommend the book to others who like fairytale retellings, Regency, and clean romance, but not to those who have a short attention span or are prone to skipping bits.

Highly Recommended! A Lovely and Clean Romance Not to be Missed!
What a delightful story. I totally enjoyed this Regency tale of a lovely young woman married against her will to a scarred “monster”:. In a way the tale is similar to Beauty and the Beast but the real story is that the lady’s father is the real monster and her new husband is a kind and gentle soul who has been greatly hurt mentally and physically. This CLEAN romance is the love story of how two strangers, meeting at their wedding, overcame obstacles and found love. I totally enjoyed the book from page one through the conclusion and hated to see it end.
This is the first clean romance that I have read in years. I want sure I would be able to appreciate it after all the racy romances I have been reading, but it was a breath of fresh air. The story is captivating! The characters a wonderful in their brokenness and their hope. The pace of the story line, and their path to love, was just perfect. It felt just right. I’m not going to give away any plot details because I don’t think I could add anything to the blurb, so I’m just going to recommend that you read it. I’m very glad that I did.
Good read
Isabella doesn’t want to marry the scarred duke her father sold her to. She tries to run away but is caught she faints the first time she sees the duke. His scars come from a fire but he has other scars that Isabella tries to heal almost too late she realizes she loves him. Her father is a tyrant and is raising his son to be the same. Esme and Isabella try to get Elliot back into the public. Very good book about healing and learning to love again
