Deputy U.S. Marshal Casey Sloane has worked at the St. Louis Marshals office for two years and is given a routine assignment to help transport a reporter to D.C. to testify before a grand jury. Valerie, the reporter, was writing a story about an up-and-coming environmentalist who suddenly disappeared and, she later discovered, whose backers purportedly have ties to a terrorist. When the seemingly … seemingly ordinary assignment suddenly takes a shocking turn, Casey is forced to put aside her own feelings about the unexpected reappearance of a man from her past as she and two other Marshals take Valerie on the run. And as it becomes dangerously clear Valerie’s testimony has even bigger implications than they knew, they’ll do whatever it takes to make it out alive.

Casey Sloane is assigned to transport a reporter to Washington, D.C., to testify in a trial about an environmentalist who disappeared. A bomb explodes at their St. Louis, Missouri, office, and Casey learns her boss is nearly killed. Casey and her partners are attacked in a safe location and one of them shot. They soon realize they’re dealing with a terrorist, but what does he want, and is he acting alone? They must flee immediately, leaving behind their wounded associate. They aren’t certain why their plan isn’t working, if their boss in St. Louis survived, and if he didn’t, who’s giving them orders? Casey’s wounded as they’re led down the perilous path not knowing who to trust.
This suspenseful book is a page turner with one surprise after another. There’s a sweet romance tucked inside and a peek at the respect and concern law enforcement officers have for each other. All the while the story sheds light on cold, inhumane terrorists and the lengths to which devoted law officers go to keep us safe. I highly recommend the book for all who enjoy suspense with a touch of romance.
Blind Betrayal is book three in the Defenders of Justice series by Nancy Mehl. If I chose one word to describe Blind Betrayal it would be Intense. Nancy has done an outstanding job with this story. These characters and story lines were so well written that you didn’t know who was going to do what and when. I hated to see the story come to an end.
I enjoy Nancy Meal mysteries…and none more than her Defenders of Justice series that focus on the U.S. Marshall service. In” Blind Betrayal” you are kept on the figurative edge of your seat as 3 U.S. Marshall’s try to get a witness to Washington D.C. The twists and turns will keep you guessing and into the story. Her characters are well drawn and interesting. She does her research with the U.S. Marshall’s service so you get an idea of these dedicated men and women. I also like the fact there is no unnecessary violence. I totally recommend the series and this book.
Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl is the third installment of the Defenders of Justice series about US Marshalls in St. Louis, Missouri.
US Marshall Casey Sloane and her partner Doug Howard have a federal witness,Valerie Bennet, in custody. They are taking her to Washington D.C. in order for her to testify against a corrupt member of the government. FBI agent E.J. Queen, a former partner of Casey’s, is going to accompany them. An incident at the headquarters in St. Louis forces them to change plans. They are on the run from a seriously bad guy and his minions. Who do they trust and how will they get their witness safely to the feds?
This was one wild ride. Nancy gives us a glimpse of what a US Marshall might have to deal with in a scary scenario. They need to outwit the evil mastermind who is pulling the strings. But how does he know their every move?
E.J. and Casey, who are both Christians, convey the theme that God is to be trusted and relied upon even when circumstances seem unsurmountable. E.J. And Casey have a history, so a touch if romance is included, too.
If you want non-stop adventure, latch on to this book and don’t forget to pick up the whole series. It is so suspenseful, I can hardly wait for Nancy’s next book!
*I recieved this book from the author in a giveaway contest. I was under no obligation to post a review. All opinions are my own.*
I couldn’t put it down. Read it in one afternoon. I haven’t been able to read an entire book that quickly in many months. Absolutely loved this one!
Every time I read a book from this author I am always amazed at how she can weave a story that captures your full attention. The action is non stop and the characters are exceptional. I loved how the author made it hard to determine who was the good guys and who wasn’t. Just when I thought a character was trust worthy they fool me. There is definitely something strange going on when the FBI makes me question their integrity. It becomes clear that not everyone is on the same page.
Casey is a fierce character who is determined to protect a witness that has been slated to testify. Her partner E.J. is well trained and has a keen sense of reading people. The action starts when a bomb explodes in the marshals office. The goal is to get the witness to a safe place, but obstacles get in the way. I was starting to mistrust the witness Valerie when she seems to help the bad guys find her. It’s a race against the clock in this explosive and powerful cat and mouse game. Can Casey and E.J. keep Valerie alive to testify? Who is really behind all the danger that puts Casey and E.J. in danger? I love the complexity of the story and how the author puts the pieces together in an intense way that keeps you guessing till the end. The ending is masterfully written with surprises that lead to a closure that will make you cheer.
I received a copy of this book from the author and Bethany House Publishers. The review is my own opinion.
Another hit by Nancy Mehl. I discovered Nancy’s books about 3-4 yrs ago and she immediately went to my top 5 favorite authors. I’ve never been disappointed in her books. The only complaint I have on Blind Betrayal- it ended way too soon. I would have loved another couple hundred pages.
If you like suspense, touch of romance, great characters with flaws and who trust in God, fast paced and page turning books, then anything by Nancy Mehl is fantastic. I won’t go into the book description except to say U.S. Marshals, FBI, police, a reporter who is being protected, murder and possible terrorists are part of the plot.
I bought this book from a local bookstore, no one asked me to leave a review and all opinions are my own. I definitely recommend this book and anything that Nancy Mehl writes.
Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl is the third book in her Defenders of Justice series. Wow, what a story! I’m not sure that there are enough adjectives to describe it. From the explosive first page all the way to the spell-binding end you are kept on the edge of your seat, waiting for what will happen next. U.S Marshal Casey Sloane has to escort a reporter to Washington to testify. What seems like an easy assignment turns into a life or death struggle. Not only for Casey but also for the reporter. Trying to stay one step ahead is their only hope of survival. I really enjoyed this story. It was one of those books that you have to stay up way too late so you can finish. I would highly recommend it to any one who loves a lot of action in their stories.
I received this book from Bethany House Publisher’s in exchange for my honest review.
3.5 stars
” . . . .Casey was concerned that once he walked out the door, she might never see him again. And she wasn’t ready to let that happen. Not yet.”
U. S. Marshal Casey Sloane really doesn’t have time to analyze her opinion about teaming with Deputy U. S. Marshal E. J. Queen again; their friendship having been severed when a relationship with a mutual friend went terribly wrong. Now they are tasked with delivering a witness to Washington, D. C. in order to testify before a grand jury; reporter Valerie Bennett’s testimony regarding a senator’s supposed ties to terrorism being crucial to the government’s case.
From the very beginning, everything goes wrong about Valerie’s transfer into the hands of the F. B. I. The Marshal’s office in St. Louis is bombed leaving their supervisor incoherent and near death, transportation plans have to be hastily re-calibrated and their destination now remains unknown. E. J. and Casey are virtually flying blind into the face of an enemy whose tentacles appear to be everywhere. Honesty and apology have their place, but it’s prayer that comes to the rescue.
Hang on to the edge of your couch, as you read this fast-paced plunge into the abyss of deep, dark abominations.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. The opinions stated are entirely my own.
This suspense novel by Mehl will not disappoint her fans. U.S. Marshal Casey Quinn and her partner Doug are tasked with getting a high-risk witness to D.C to testify before a grand jury about a crime boss whose crimes include terrorism. While they are just doing their protection detail job, the task becomes more dangerous and more difficult because their home office is bombed and they are out of touch with their boss Batterson who was supposed to set up a meeting with FBI agents. One agent, E.J. Queen, does join their detail, and he has previous interactions with Casey, so there is romantic tension there, too. The scenes shift back and forth between Casey trying to get Valerie safely to testify and the hospital where Battersron’s life is hanging by a thread. The scenes move quickly and the action is non-stop. From the beginning, Mehl hooks the reader in the scenario of life or death, both Batterson’s and Valerie’s. For that reason, it was a book that enthralls the reader and entices you to keep reading to the end.

Blind Betrayal – What can I say but wow – what a great suspenseful, romantic and Faith filled story. It is full of action and fun. The subject manner has to do with current things that are happening and is amazingly scary. You have two agents baby sitting an eyewitness – who they found out that that witness was – – – – nah I’m not going to ruin it for you but it is intense and shocking – and explains the whole reason for all the serious twists and turns and screeches and topples – boy is this fun – you will enjoy yourself too if you love mystery and intense suspense. I received a copy of this review from the Publisher and Netgalley; all of the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

Blind Betrayal, Defenders of Justice book 3 by Nancy Mehl
Blind Justice starts with a bang and the action continues until the very end. It is well written and can be read as a stand-alone. The characters are well defined with lots of action, packed with suspense and guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seat. Nancy Mehl has done a superb job with all three books in this series. I give Blind Justice five stars.
If you enjoy mystery with non-stop action, this read will give you all you want, most of the time your heart will be in your throat.
We are with the US Marshall, then with help for the FBI and local police, somehow, we are moving a witness to DC, but in reality, we are trying to save our Country, and you keep wondering whom will come out of this alive.
This is the third book in this series that the author has offered, and it is just as good as the first two, and each can be read alone, but you may want to peruse the previous books, you won’t be disappointed.
I am hoping for more in this series, guess I like being frightened, at least in a book!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.
