An incredible book and my top read of the year! 5+ stars!
Every once in a very great, long while, a book comes along that’s totally fresh and original, at least for me, and that’s exactly what Love on the Edge of Time is.
When I first heard about this story some time ago, I got all excited, because I thought it was a romance about time travel, which I love, but then I discovered I was wrong. It’s actually about past lives—reincarnation, if you will. I’d never read a novel about that before, which excited me, because, these days, I run across very few original stories that interest me, at least not without being totally corny or over-the-top fantasy. But Love on the Edge of Time is neither. It’s a romance four times over, so you really get your money’s worth. These characters were destined to be together through all of time, though there’s a lot of tragedy there.
I worried at first because the male lead is a rock star and the female, a model, and yet, there’s nothing cliché about it, or them. They both have issues that dog them, as most MCs do, and both see a shrink to help them overcome them, and that’s where they first meet. Separately, they discover through regression therapy that they each have past lives, multiple ones. It’s demons from those past lives that really turn up the heat and haunt them.
During their sessions, their shrink discovers a secret neither of her patients are aware of. But what’s a shrink to do? HIPAA laws prevent her from sharing what she learns. Not that she wants to share, because she has secrets of her own, secrets that can blow up all their relationships.
There are several love stories going on here, and the reader will go back and forth between all these lives and characters until everything clicks into place in the present. But will what they discover about themselves and their past lives help or hurt them? Will they be able to outmaneuver fate once they put all the puzzle pieces into place and create a new destiny of their own making? If you believe in the concept of soulmates, as I do, you’ll love this book, also as I do.
Warning: Don’t go into this book looking for the same old formulaic romance. It’s not even like anything this author has ever written before, not in content or style. Yes, well into the story, it has a bit of smut, which most genre readers crave, and tons of romance between MCs Kylie and Jesse, both of whom I genuinely liked. But you’ve never read a story quite like this one before. Some might not like that if they need the tidy bow most stories are wrapped up in, but that’s part of what I enjoyed most about it.
You can’t really guess what’s gonna happen or how. It’s complicated and messy, fresh and unique, and quite poetic at times. I was truly blown away, and that rarely happens anymore. So thank you, Ms. Richman, for this surprising, uncommon, singularly unique ride. It was a real pleasure!
Absolutely loved it!!
I have read many books through the years but only a few have impacted me the way this book did. I was such a rich journey through time and lives. I feel emotionally wrecked at finishing this book. Julie A. Richman is a master of sucking me in and this one book that will be staying with me for a long time. The story is so good and the characters are full of depth and layers. Still sitting here having just finished this book I am still so emotional. My heart hurts from what I read and experienced in this book. It was such a beautiful story that will stay with you long after the last word is read. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book. I wish I could give it more than five stars because it deserves a million at least.
Julie has outdone herself with this love story of epic proportions!! The attention to detail leaves me in awe. This story will pull you in and will not leave your heart. This is a definite MUST READ OF 2017!!!
