I thought he was a player…how could I have possibly known what he really was?-Rosa With those searing whiskey eyes, chiseled face, and cocky attitude it was pretty obvious he was a player. Ordinarily, I would have been able to resist him, but it was my best friend’s wedding, and I’d had a lot of alcohol, so I thought, what the hell. At the very least he’d have the skills, and judging by that … he’d have the skills, and judging by that huge swell in his pants, the equipment to give a bridesmaid a good time.
Of course, we used a condom, actually, a few, but one month later I’m sitting on my bathroom floor looking at five pregnancy sticks all lined up. Each one telling me the same thing: Girl, you’re pregnant.
Clearly, he won’t want to know, being a player and everything, but my best friend says telling him is the right thing to do.
Looks like I’ll have to go to Italy to give him the bad news.
Dante
I wasn’t asleep when she woke up that morning and crept out of my hotel room. For the first time in my life I didn’t want a hook-up to leave, but that made me more determined than ever not to see her again. I liked my carefree life too much.
I left England and flew to Monte Carlo. The big plan was to hit the casinos and lose myself in other women, but I got back to Italy and simply couldn’t forget her.
A month later out of the blue, she swans back into my life to drop her bombshell.
I let her slip away once. I won’t again. This time I’m doing the unthinkable. I’m going to limit myself to just one woman.
I’ll show her I can be the perfect daddy.
This woman and the baby in her belly are going nowhere.

ABOUT THE CRAVE ME ROMANCE COLLECTION:
Star, Raven, Rosa, and Cindy had been best friends since youth. They each had dreams. Star pictured herself as a writer one day. Raven had hopes of becoming a doctor. Rosa wanted to become a fashion industry insider. And Cindy dreamed of becoming successful in the business world. Their friendships had become strained once Star found love at an early age. She and Raven had a falling out roughly around the time Star married Nigel, leaving Rosa and Cindy somewhere in the middle. Cindy had gotten busy with getting her degree. Rosa spent some time in America doing an internship at Cosmo. And Raven gave up her education once her sister became sick. As their stories unfold, they rely on one another and discover that their friendships really can stand the test of time.
For those that pay attention to details, the timelines within the series and the individual books do not always add up. Submitting to the Billionaire primarily takes place during two weeks in June. Redemption takes place during the summer while Star’s relationship with Nikolai is still fresh. Star had been twenty-two; Raven is twenty-three. It is conceivable that Redemption takes place the following summer, but the way it reads it probably takes place during the same summer. However, The Heir takes place during the summer of Nikolai and Star’s wedding, which is two years after the summer they fall in love. At the time of the wedding, Raven is pregnant. Assuming she is very pregnant, it makes sense that Raven’s story took place one year after Star’s. Rosa is twenty-six in The Heir, which again does not add up. It is presumed the girls are all roughly the same age, but Star would be twenty-four at her wedding, two years younger than Rosa.
Note that Rosa’s close friend Star plays a small role in this story. Cindy appears as well, and Raven is mentioned. This story opens at Nikolai and Star’s wedding. For reference, that can be found in chapter fifty-five of Submitting to the Billionaire. The magical ceremony takes place at St. Mary’s, a quaint medieval chapel in the Cambridgeshire countryside. They are surrounded by dear friends.
THE HEIR:
Rosa Gardener, twenty-six, hasn’t been with a man in over a year. She has great friends and loves her career. After going to college and snagging a coveted internship in New York at Cosmo, she landed a job back home in London as a fashion writer at Mirabel. She loves her job despite the cutthroat atmosphere. When she finds herself at her friend Star’s wedding, she has no intention of breaking her dry streak on a one-night stand with a player. With Cindy taken and Raven pregnant, she happens to be the only bridesmaid available and has apparently become the target of one obnoxious Mediterranean playboy. She knows the type well, but this one is particularly gifted in both looks and skill. He checks all her boxes.
One month later, Rosa learns the hard way that contraceptives are not one hundred percent effective. With help from Star, she locates the mystery playboy in Rome. She flies in only long enough to inform the arrogant beast of her situation and explain that she does not expect nor want anything from him – though to the extent he wants to be in the child’s life she welcomes it. His shallow and vain personality disgusts her – he is shameless. And that he makes light of the situation by suggesting that she and the baby live with him is beyond understanding. She eagerly returns to London without any expectation of hearing from him again.
Dante D’Angelo, roughly thirty-three (about seven years older than Rosa), doesn’t have a job. He lives life as he pleases, traveling throughout Europe and going from party to party. He thinks there is more to life than work. Work is boring. He has slept with countless beautiful women, but he never made any promises. He loves his life and cannot imagine ever settling down. When in England for billionaire Nikolai Smirnov’s wedding, his bride Star suggests that he and Rosa would make a perfect couple. And when he approaches her, Rosa’s feisty and rebellious personality have him captivated. She isn’t like the classic beauties he spent so many years bedding, but she is absolutely perfect. Intelligent and independent-minded, something about her resonates with him, and he is not taking no for an answer.
Rosa had captured his attention like no other woman could. He fought the attraction long afterward, but when she shows up at his hotel in Rome he knows fate has a hand in it. She may come across as tough as nails, determined to turn him away, but he knows her type. Underneath the bark is a heart of gold. Discovering he will be a father, though, changes everything for him in an instant. He will absolutely raise his child and marry Rosa. He just has to win her over to the idea without scaring her away.
When an unexpected promotion to editor brings Rosa to the Roman offices of Mirabel, she is thrilled. She loves adventure and is determined to prove her worth. But being alone and pregnant in the same city as Dante terrifies her. His ability to melt her icy walls makes her irritable and rude around him. He is dangerous to her, and she cannot afford to let him know just how much she likes him.
Dante and Rosa’s story starts out with a bang. Their accidental pregnancy/enemies to lovers story has great chemistry and lots of steam. Dante is the consummate playboy who owns his lifestyle without apology. When career-minded Rosa crosses paths with him, though, he recognizes that fate must be at play. The mask of a player that he has worn for years begins to feel a bit heavy. There is much more to him than what he shows the world, and Rosa begins to detect it. He slowly and patiently lures her in, but makes it clear he wants to marry her. With a baby on the way, the stakes are high. Dante refuses to take no for an answer, but Rosa is convinced that Dante is not marriage material. With his good looks and history, she expects him to cheat and break her heart. But the couple has bigger problems. When he takes her to meet his parents in Avanti, even Dante isn’t fully prepared for the family politics that threaten everything.
Have a few tissues handy! Dante and Rosa’s feisty banter and great chemistry in the first half of their story leads to family intrigue in the latter half. Dante’s character evolves from an easy to read playboy into something much more complex. Rosa fights her attraction to the playboy but discovers that judging him on his looks does not do him justice. Their story is somewhat complex. The second half is radically different than the first half, which is more whimsical and romantic and quintessentially Italian. There are a few inconsistencies and confusing statements in the story. A few of the conversations are a bit clunky. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Dante and Rosa. I rate this book four stars.
