He’s the persistent playboy who refuses to walk away. I’m the impassive new girl with nothing left to give.Things are about to get complicated…After months of refusing, I finally agreed to make the move to Alrick Falls. My family thought it was best – that a new scene would be good for me – and I was sick of having the same conversation. So here I am, and the plan is simple. Smile through each … is simple. Smile through each day and avoid her at all costs.
It’s perfect.
Until the cocky quarterback comes into play.
The last thing I want is his crooked grin and dark brown eyes focused on me.
Yet here he is, constantly in my space, pushing me, daring me to care. Telling me what I think and feel, as if he knows.
He doesn’t know anything. And I plan to keep it that way.

I cannot believe that this is Meagan Brandy’s first book – I am blown away!! The main character was so snarky and such a dude, but it totally worked for her and the story! And the hero is so alpha, but you can’t help but fall for him! When these two get together, it’s atomic! I know, I know, it only just released, but I’m already anxiously waiting for book 2!!
I have been told to read this book for ages being a fan of YA but i knew i wanted to keep this book for when i had lots of time to read and I’m so glad i did as it was a bigger book and sometimes you just want to read a bigger book, I started this Christmas Day and could not put it down loved it.
This book had me at the first page, everytime i read a chapter i couldn’t believe this book was an authors debut book it flawed more.
What a story i do love the popular guy and the girl that couldn’t give a crap how popular he is and just gets on with her life. I loved everything about Kalani she had such a back story and when you found out what it was you couldn’t blame her for being the way she was. She was one tough cookie and i think she would have to be one of my favourite sassiest character i have met.
Nate god i wanted to strangle him for his cockiness and arrogance but that’s what also made me love him, even though he acted this way you could tell he was insecure and the way these characters brought out the best and worst in each other was what had me turning the pages.
The characters tension was burning through the pages and i loved every moment of this and the story. I also i have to say i did like Mia she was a great side character as well as some of Nate’s team mates, but i don’t think i have loved a side character in a long time like Parker i would love a best friend like him, he was so caring and supportive and it was like he knew what Kalani needed.
As i was reading this even though it didn’t have the usual angst it was like i was just waiting for the penny to drop or something to happen and this had the pages turning for me.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves YA sport themed books, i loved the NFL aspect to this book. I laughed hard, i cried and just loved every single thing about this book.
A massive, huge, big 5 Stars for this book. On a side note i can’t wait for Parker’s book this will be one of my anticipated books for 2018 can’t wait.
I’m SO late to this party and I knew I’d be kicking myself for not being able to read it earlier. But I loved it. I loved the angst. I loved the sexy scenes and the story was gripping from beginning to end. Highly recommend!! Can’t wait to read the next story!
Nope. So much nope. Made it to 7%. Started skimming. Couldn’t even do that.
Holy Toledo! I cannot believe that this was Meagan Brandy’s debut novel because it was unbelievably AMAZING! I am still kicking myself in the butt for waiting until now to finally dive in (having previously purchased it). The moment I started reading this one, I just knew that there was no way I was putting it down until I reached the very end. Let’s just say that was exactly what happened. Thank goodness for Easter Break! Also what a better way to spend Kalani’s (main character) birthday then by reading her and Nate’s story.
There are so many freaking things to LOVE about this incredibly captivating story, but I think the fact that it gave me all the FEELS was hands down the BEST part! My heart ached and I was left anticipating each and every move Kalani and Nate made. There were times that I wasn’t sure if this book was going to end with a happily ever after, but when it came I was left with my heart swelling with joy.
Meagan Brandy is an extraordinarily talented storyteller and I cannot wait to fall in love with more of her writing as the years go by. I am seriously on the edge of my seat in anticipation for Parker’s story now!
Readers, if you a story that will give you ALL THE FEELS then look no further because Fumbled Hearts is the book for you! Pick up your copy today and fall hopelessly in love with Kalani and Nate’s beautifully captivating and emotionally heartfelt story!
This book was easy to read, interesting characters, but very unrealistic. Students in high school do not have the free reign that these kids had in this book.
This book is wonderful. So easy to read and it keeps you captive until the very end. I loved the characters so much and kept thinking about them after I finished the book. I recommend this book so much because it was original and different from the rest and I enjoyed it very much.
Characters were believable with a strange plot twist that got you involved in the story and carried it through to the end. Both Nate and Kalani grew with the help of the other. Not your typical “Jock” boy meets girl story.
Why, why, why did I wait so long to read this story?? It was truly fantastic!! And for it being her debut story – I’m totally blown away!!
Kalani is one of my favorite heroines, ever. Seriously, I just loved her. She spoke her mind and never once waivered on who she was. And even though Nate started out not very likable, by the end of the story I had completely fallen for him. I just adored these two together and thought they were absolutely perfect together!
Just everything about this book was so good that I didn’t even want to put it down to go to sleep! Cannot wait for the next book in this series and whatever else this author writes in the future!
Oh wow! Okay, so to start off I obviously as for all books this one is not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you push past the drunkin’ high schooler’s and get to the story and really get into everything its seriously hilarious. The witty banter is more then enough to keep you drawn in, even just her inner dialog.
The writing is well put together, and just fun and up lifting. Though there is something I’m missing. But its not something from the writing, there’s something that is building in the story that is not being told and I love the mystery of it all!! And the twist and turns and ugh just everything is amazing the way everything is brought out!!! So much emotion is in the writing and in the characters. Honestly it was like reading and being pulled so far in I could be the characters myself and watch everything play out in front of me I was so into the book. I cried and laughed and just enjoyed reading this so much.
What a fabulous debut novel by Meagan Brandy. This love story encompasses every emotion under the sun. Happiness, sadness, anger, redemption, angst, you name it you’ve got it! The fabulous part of Meagan’s storytelling is she moves through all of these emotions flawlessly. You want more and more from these characters as the story progresses, and she delivers every step of the way.
I was so engaged with Kalani and Nate from the very beginning, the slow burn and sexual tension between them is so darn good. Since this takes place in high school, this would not be complete without a list of supporting characters that are vital to the story and budding relationship between Lolli and Nate. There is drama, push and pull, jealousy, assumptions, accusations. The story kept me on my toes and wouldn’t let go. The progression of Lolli and Nate’s relationship is at a good pace, you can’t help but smile and swoon as we get to know them better.
Kalani is a very closed off young woman. You learn of her unorthodox upbringing, her choices and attitude towards life make perfect sense to her. But as time moves on you are engrossed in her journey to accept and open up to the things happening around her. Lolli is not one to rely on others and the realization that she might want and/or need someone in her life makes her uneasy. I love her personality. This young girl is more fierce and resilient than many adults I know. She’s honest, independent, loyal, smart, all of the above!
Nate comes across as your “typical high school quarterback hottie,” without a care in the world as he makes his way through the high school girls that adore him. No attachments are the key for him and he doesn’t hook up with a girl more than once. However, once him and Lolli stop ignoring the attraction they have for one another, the fun really begins! Sit back and enjoy the roller coaster ride. There were a few times when I wanted to punch Nate, but what do you expect. Nate is as confident and cocky as the next high school guy. But deep down he has some insecurities and second guesses what is going on between him and Lolli.
Overall, this was a great read and I would highly recommend giving Meagan a chance. You have one feisty, strong-willed heroine, a swoony, sexy football player, laughs, drama and a few twists and turns with some angst. What more could you ask for in a sports romance! This has it all.
Great read. Held my interest
When I first came across this book I slipped right over it for the reason of it being another high school- sport romance. However later one of my friend recommended it to so I decided to give it a chance. And boy, was I glad that I did because it quickly became my first five star reads of the year.
Here is the thing I can understand why a lot of people had problems with this book, my first thought also was along their lines. It has quite a few elements that can be considered cliché and overused, or even problematic for people with triggers, although after finishing I think it’s still really enjoyable and with the emotional charge to it, the author spinned quite a phenomenal tale.
My method to overlook things I wouldn’t in real life is that I look at the book as pure entertainment and fiction, also consider things in the story as the exaggerated motifs. Because quite honestly the whole high school setting you can find in YA books just simply unbelievable for me. For one I never encountered a high school party the likes I see in books and movies. Plus I can’t really relate to the kind of behavior athletes get in these books because in my country there isn’t that kind of ‘cult’ around high school sports. I mean most of the highly school doesn’t even have sport teams, here you either need to go to special sport related school or it’s purely and after school thing in town/city wide sport clubs. So all in all I don’t know how much is actually true about these kinds of things. Alas I look at it as FICTION, which means I’m not going to criticize it on grounds of authenticity. But back to the book.
I really enjoyed the storyline, yes there are quite a few things in it that are, in my opinion, results of stupid mistakes of young people and as someone who considers herself an adult it can be irritating. I mean the big conflict in the last part of the story but this particular event only served the emotional punch that put the cherry on top for the book. The whole storyline is really eventful and full of surprises and funny moments. The plot mainly concentrates on the relationship between Nate and Kalani, but there is also a whole lot of high school drama going on. I loved the sport elements as well and it’s woven into the story with balance and brilliance. The books sucked me in with the first chapter, it was so funny.
The story is narrated alternating between Kalani and Nate and it is interesting to see each of their sides.
I adored Kalani character; at first glance you would say that she is badass but that would be a too general description for her. She is not badass, she is deeply in grieving and her already unconventional life turned even stranger with her new living situation. What I loved about her was the way she was indifferent and didn’t care one bit about what others thought about her, thanks to this and her way of getting out of high school schemes with a little bravado and some daring comments was quite refreshing. Although some of her actions, mainly her secretive nature at times took the events in a bad direction but overall I enjoyed her antics.
Nate is the typical whoring jock at the beginning of the story, however after he realized that he wants Kalani he changed completely. Personally I liked him too, especially the way he wooed Kalani but not aggressively. He always only went as fast and as far as the girl was letting on that she is okay with it. They had a great and steamy relationship but had some problems regarding trust which in the end led to a big misunderstanding and a heartbreaking conclusion.
There are a lot of interesting and likeable secondary characters as well and I love the dynamic and friendship that is between them. I always love those. I can’t wait to read the next book however I’m not really sure I will like the pairing.
While the book ends on a happy note I think the way the author resolved the conflict and the argument between the main characters was a bit of a cop out, it was not my fave thing about the book and even considering the circumstances I don’t think anyone would have forgive so easily.
