The Callback is the first book in Brandy L. Rivers’ Love Behind the Scenes series and is a great read that readers can easily become caught up in from the very beginning. Leona Shay is an author whose personal life is turmoil so she is certainly not looking to fall for anyone much less a rising movie star. Luke Chase can have anybody he wants but he wants the author who isn’t ready for him or anything that comes with him. The characters are strong and easily connected to with some sizzling chemistry between them that readers easily pick up on during this sweet romance full of hot and steamy passion and rocky heartfelt turmoil that keeps the readers in suspense throughout the story wondering if this couple can possibly work things out and reach for the happily ever after, especially as trust doesn’t come easy for Leona.
The plot moves smoothly with a steady pace that keeps readers glued to the pages as Luke tries to win Leona’s heart, but then disaster strikes due to an overzealous and determined former hook up and things really become intense and emotional which had me tearing up a bit. The author made it easy for each and every scene to be pictured as the reader follows the couples journey to their happily ever after with well written words and well developed characters that are realistic, so it is not surprising that I became emotionally invested in their romance.
I am huge fan of Brandy L. Rivers paranormal Others universe, but this is the first contemporary romance that I have read by her and I have to say that I was quite pleased that I enjoyed reading The Callback as much as I enjoy reading about the Others so I can’t wait to read The Long Shot which is due to be released later this month.
Leona Shay stopped looking or believing in love. Fresh from a divorce from her High School Sweetheart, her world is totally turned upside down. Things might just get even crazier for her as she has sold the rights of her book to a movie.
Luke Chance, is a rising star in Hollywood and he can have anyone he wants, but his heart decided on an author who might just not be ready for him or anything to do with him.
Luke more then anything also wants a role in the movie based on her book, but Leona does not see as the lead, and after first meeting him she slips away.
Trust is not easy for Leona. Tabloids and distance may send her running, and possible her ex who now wants her back. Will Luke try to win her over. See their romance blossom as they get to know each other and Leona opens up to him little by little. Raven and Ryan are also in this book which was nice to see them.
There are plenty surprises left in the book, so if you get a chance read it, its a great love story, well written and the characters are super fantastic.
I loved this story. You have a strong woman who has been cheated on and carries the remembrance of a relationship gone bad. You have a mature young man who knows what he wants. Together they have challenges to face and obstacles to overcome along with crazy fans. The author does a great job of humanizing celebs and making her characters real and touchable, and oh yes lovable. This is my first read by this author and while it is a standalone I want to read more. Her characters have flaws, have a heart and just make you want to reach out and share their pain and conquest and success.
This story has given us an insight into the workings of an author and an actor. The heroine in this book is a recently divorced author. The hero is an actor. He is younger, very good looking. They meet and are instantly attracted. This story takes us into their lives and is well told. It has humor and lots of drama. Pick up your copy and get reading… Pam James
I absolutely love Brandy’s paranormal series, so when she decided to write contemporary I said why not and I’m certainly not disappointed in this one.
Leona is a slightly reluctant older author who likes to live in the shadows and Luke is the young movie star in the spotlights. Luke has to work extra hard to convince Leona to take a chance on him, as he’s convinced she’s the one for him. There are many twists to this plot and a serious mistake almost destroys everything these two have going for them. That’s all I’m going to say about that, you have to read it to find out more.
I received an ARC of this story and have voluntarily chosen to review it here.
