“Full of charm and sly humor, SIDE BY SIDE tells the story of Bonnie and Clyde’s slide from lovebirds to jailbirds–and what an action-packed story it is! Vivid storytelling and a few shots of humanity breathe new life into this notorious duo. This book should be on everyone’s “most wanted” list this summer.” — Elise Hooper, author of The Other Alcott Texas: 1931. It’s the height of the Great … the height of the Great Depression, and Bonnie is miles from Clyde. He’s locked up, and she’s left waiting, their dreams of a life together dwindling every day.
When Clyde returns from prison damaged and distant, unable to keep a job, and dogged by the cops, Bonnie knows the law will soon come for him. But there’s only one road forward for her.
If the world won’t give them their American Dream, they’ll just have to take it.
“Compulsively readable, Walsh’s prose hooks you from the beginning as Bonnie and Clyde come alive for the reader, their exploits leaping off the page. Atmospheric, action-packed, and richly detailed, Side by Side will delight historical fiction fans.” – Chanel Cleeton, author of Next Year in Havana

Side by Side was a capitvating novel! The story is a historical fiction account of Bonnie and Clyde’s adventures. I enjoyed the way that Bonnie’s side of their partnership and events was told. Bonnie is the girlfriend of Clyde. The two were a famous wanted couple during the 30s. What Clyde did during his robberies and the days they were on the run made Clyde a wanted fugitive. Bonnie’s part of what happened and the fact that she ran with him made her wanted also. Bonnie is in love with Clyde and doesn’t want to leave his side. She doesn’t always agree with the things that Clyde does, but she is waiting patiently for the day they can leave it all behind and start a normal life. Through the days of their running, so much happens. They experience injuries and loss over and over, but Bonnie stays by Clyde’s side through it all. This story was a deep romance full of dangerous action throughout.
Most people know the story of Bonnie and Clyde. They were notorious bank robbers whose lives ended in a fire of bullets. SIDE BY SIDE is part fact and part fiction. What is unique about this book is the story is told by Bonnie’s point of view. How she went from sweet Bonnelyn to Bonnie the gangsters moll. The reason for all those robberies, how in love she was with Clyde that she could not leave him, and their dream for a future without constantly running from the law. I loved this story.
I loved the sequel to Becoming Bonnie. Yes you can read it on its own but you miss how Bonnie becomes what she is in SIde by Side
Even reading Side by Side , the wild ride you will take with Bonnie and Clyde you still wonder how in earth she didn’t leave Clyde.
Action pacted, pages fly and you know the ending isn’t going to turn out so well for Bonnie and Clyde but you are hooked on every page.
I found myself googling all the characters in the book to see what happened to them after the ride ends.

In this (long-awaited, in my case, even though I was fortunate to get a chance to read this early!) follow-up to her memorable debut BECOMING BONNIE, Jenni L. Walsh takes readers on a joyride with Bonnie in the story’s driver’s seat, careening from hope to despair, from spectacle to tragedy, from complacency to guilt. History may have already written her lovesick protagonist’s ending, but Walsh’s sharp wit and keen imagination fill in the blanks with exceptional care, somehow managing to leave you wanting more — and marveling that it took so long for this perspective of the infamous duo to get its due. (With gratitude to the author/publisher for providing an ARC for honest review.)
I always wanted to know more about Bonnie and Clyde and this novel whetted my curiosity for more! Now I have to go back and read Becoming Bonnie! Jenni Walsh nails the time with her exciting depiction. You can feel the couple’s desperation, along with the bumpy ride of the Modal T! I felt for Bonnie’s conflicting emotions, torn between her love and the right way to do things. A wild romp through exciting times in America. Glad I can live it vicariously! Now to download Becoming Bonnie!
