Erun is book four in The Ujal series. I really enjoyed this one. Kids add something special to a story when done right.
As I’ve said before I like the unique aliens in this series. Each Ujal has it’s own unique coloring, traits, and characteristics.
Erun’s history is harsh and dark. It’s made him who he is today; the hardened warrior. We also see that he has no reason to trust women, so his actions fit. At the start he comes off as an ass, but once you understand him more you see he has a heart and wants what all the others want, a mate and family. It was hard to learn about his past.
Vanessa is looking to start a new life after her husbands death, but little does she know his death isn’t what it seems. Besides that she soon learns her daughter is Ujal and they don’t want her raising her daughter. What is a mother to do, but fight for her child, Ujal be damed.
Theres surprises, action, tension, and love. I liked Vanessa and Erun together. They had a rocky start, but things turned out. I enjoyed how they interacted together and with Tabby along. What I especially loved was seeing Erun interact with Tabby. He was so sweet, patient, and loving.
Erun was a delight to read. One of my favorites in the series.

Is she ready to move forward
Who doesn’t love a big snarly alpha male? Erun is a male who has been through the worst life can hand him, and yet he has managed to keep a firm grip on his peaceful loving heart. His very protective heart, especially when he finds the family that is meant to be his. He may have had a struggle on his way to his HEA, but with the support of his friends he is able to overcome the past and embrace his future. I truly hope the author continues with this series. I need to know if Niax and Sece, and so many other Ujal, finally reach their HEAs.
When I first started reading this, I kept thinking “how am I going to manage to like the main Ujal male character in this book when he’s a horrible, horrible person?” (Which is surprising, since the little we see of him in previous books he seems great.) Definitely wanted to toss this guy out the window. He’s absolutely brutal to Vanessa, and his first interaction with her is him calling her a bad mother and stating he will have her child taken away from her by the authorities. Yeah, just what a grieving widow lost in a new city needs to hear.
Vanessa, too busy actually taking care of her child, tolerates Erun’s reprehensible behavior as he follows her to her home to further berate and criticize her every action.
But Erun is incredibly sweet with Vanessa’s daughter, and they take to each other right away. We learn that Erun’s childish manner of interacting with the woman he’s interested in by tormenting her is a PTSD reaction about the horrific childhood he endured for the first 27 years of his life. And when Tabby becomes ill, Erun sees Vanessa’s dedication to her child and immediately becomes her number one defender. He stands by her and supports her when she discovers a deplorable secret from her deceased husband’s past that has widespread damage and is even connected to Erun’s past.
Poor Vanessa endures a great deal of physical and emotional agony, all in the name of what’s best for Tabby. Erun, too, is would be willing to endure anything for their sake. There is a great deal of sweetness interspersed with the fast paced action and tumultuous chaos.
At heart, this is also a story of adoption, the fluidity of the definition of family, and rescuing kids from a life of trauma and misery.
