A summer job. That’s all it was supposed to be. It never crossed my mind that I was about to collide with a man who would obliterate every plan I ever made. My mother has always warned me that love is like a lightning bolt and it strikes without warning. But I had no intention of getting struck by either lightning or love anytime soon. I’d be too busy finishing my journalism degree and landing a … and landing a job in a city far more sophisticated than Phoenix.
There was certainly nothing in the cards about getting involved with an ex-ballplayer turned nightclub boss.
He was too old for me, too complicated, too distracting.
On the surface we had almost nothing in common except the draw of an overpowering physical connection.
The seasonal job at a local resort was going to be temporary.
He was going to be temporary.
But insufferably sexy, arrogant Dalton Tremaine has other ideas.
And the harder I fall for him the more I can’t find a good reason to resist giving him everything he wants…
*STRIKE is the first book in a brand new sexy spinoff series from NYT and USA Today Bestselling Author Cora Brent. No cliffhanger! May be read as a stand alone.

Since I loved the stories about Creed, Cord and Chase Gentry, I am super happy to see the stories in regards to the second generation!
Dalton Tremaine is former pro baseball player that has turned into a night club manager until he reaches his dream off owning his own baseball facility for children.
Camille (Cami) Gentry is an aspiring newspaper report working a summer job at the resort where Dalton is living/working at. She is the daughter of Cord & Saylor Gentry.
While I enjoyed reading this story, I just felt like the connection to Dalton and Cami was really more lust than love. Wasn’t really feeling that connection. The age difference really didn’t play any big role or cause drama for me. Age is just a number really.
While there was some suspense and intrigue in the storyline, it just fell flat towards the end and didn’t really finish out. Would have like to have seen that play out as I need to have some sort of resolution.
Overall, I liked the book, but felt there was too much missing to give a higher rating than 3*. I will keep reading the next book in the series.
Absolutely loved this story. The Gentry family have always had a place in my heart, reading about the next generation is like a welcoming home. This book was sweet, endearing, splashed with a touch of suspense. Cami and Dalton have a beautiful connection, and steamy chemistry. I was hooked from the beginning and kept on my toes till the end.
The story had potential to be good. Good characters. Strong personalities at the start. The banter was good. But then she falls apart. He’s clueless. And there is so much drama that turns out to be no big deal. I felt like I wasted my tome.
Read 9/4/19
Strike was the first book in Cora Brent’s spinoff series, Gentry Generations.
Cami Gentry was one of the firstborn twins from Cord and Saylor (Draw, book one, Gentry Boys). She was a college student, and aspiring reporter who was home for the summer before her last year of college. For spare change she was working at the local resort as a receptionist in the spa. She was focused and definitely not looking for a relationship.
Dalton Tremaine was a former MLB player who suffered a career ending injury. He was now back home in Arizona managing a wildly successful night club until his dreams of opening a youth baseball center came to fruition.
I enjoyed the Gentry second generation tremendously. Brent also put the loyalty and bond of the first generation front and center while introducing us to the driven and fun offspring. She then combined it with a suspenseful plot, but nothing too over the top, just enough to make it interesting – although I would love to see more depth and resolution in future stories for some of the sub plots.
In the end, I loved the characters, the storyline and the emphasis on family. She ended Cami and Dalton with a happy for now scenario with a promise for a forever love. Hopefully she’ll continue to develop them as the series progresses.
All in all, it was a fast and enjoyable read and I can’t wait to explore more Gentry offspring. I wouldn’t mind seeing Hale, Dalton’s brother, in a story as well. Hint Hint…
I absolutely loved this book. I picked it up forever ago, and grabbed the audio book recently. While looking for something new to listen to on the way to work, I decided to give this one a try. I was immediately in love with it.
Usually when I listen to an audio book, and I’m completely hooked, I tend to pick up my kindle and just start reading the book, bypassing the audio because I can usually read more often than I can listen, and just listening for 2 hours a day when I’m in my car wasn’t enough. But with this book, even though I couldn’t wait to keep going with it, I was enjoying the narration of it so much, that I couldn’t bring myself to pick up the book on my kindle. Needles to say, it made for a really tortorous two weeks as I waited for the drive to and from work to listen.
And let me tell you, there were times that I was dying in my car. I was laughing so hard, I was crying. This book just hit all the right notes for me.
I can’t wait to keep going with books by this author, and reading about Cami’s sisters. And I’ll confess, I haven’t read the original series about the first generations of Gentrys’ either. I can’t wait to go back and get acquainted with that generation.
Camille and Dalton’s story was one that was sweet, steamy, made me laugh and had a bit of suspense. I absolutely enjoyed the Gentry family and there was no doubt how much they loved and supported each other. Dalton was a great character and I loved how protective he was of Cam. This story was a great read from the very beginning and ended with a sweet HEA. There were a few editing mistakes in this story but it did not take away from the story and I look forward to reading Cassie’s story.
Love this book!
Hot but a little too much drama
Cami and Dalton were a perfect couple to usher in the newest Gentry Generation! Cami has always been the Lois Lane of the Gentry brood. With her inquisitive nature and desire to delve deeper she was always on the path to be a journalist. With her internship having fallen through for the summer, Cami is spending the summer break from college home with the family and working at the Spa of the local resort. While she loves getting more time with the family, this wasn’t exactly how she pictured spending her summer! But the Spa has some redeeming qualities, like the people watching – nothing better for a budding reporter than a chance to see all walks of people in a resort. Townies, athletes, politicians, and so much more…looks like phones and reservations won’t be the only things to hold Cami’s attention. Especially when a certain ex-ballplayer turned nightclub manger starts to pop up and cause her forget logic and common sense. Dalton’s job at the club was always supposed to just be a nice little limbo until his real dream of training center for kids comes to fruition. He’s not really a club guy, but when Griffin offered him the job at the rright time it seemed lime the right choice. When he meets the brainy beautiful Cami, Dalton is at first reluctant pursue such a young innocent lady, but soon realizes that she is kind of perfect in her right nowness. These two have amazing chemistry and a bond that extends beyond the bedroom. He genuinely likes this womans spirit and moxie, but it can also get her into trouble. When she goes digging as is her nature, she might get more than she bargained for.
Love this spin off of the Gentry series. This one with Cami and holy alpha hotness Dalton. A must read, insta-love with a little mystery. Can’t wait for the next in this next generation series!
