This book, or the entire series is a perfect mix of ancient Norse mythology and our modern day world. I mean seeing the God of Thunder tumbling with a cellphone is actually pretty funny thing to see.
If you have not read the previous book this review might spoil some things for you, I highly recommend them.
This is the third and final book in The Norse Chronicles and it was bittersweet, epic and everything I hoped for.
But since this is the final book and it is hard to review it without spoiling too much, I will keep it short.
Everything we learned so far and everything that happened in previous book will come to a conclusion in this book, everything comes together and plays out pretty nicely.
I just wished being the last book it would have been a bit longer to avoid the little bit of a rushed feeling towards the end. That is my only minor complaint about this book, that we don’t get enough of it.
Solina still struggles with the revelation of Val and what he really was up to in the last book and really I was too. Val was one of my favorites and it really hit me hard.
But Solina does come to term with a lot of things in this books, and grows quite a bit. But don’t get me wrong she still has plenty of moments where she just runs out to save the world without thinking it through, which of course leads to bigger danger. She gives Thorin a run for his money in this book that is for sure. But I think that is just Solina and something that will never change.
I also really enjoyed that she has the chance to reunite with some familiar faces.
Thorin, he really shines in this book. We also get to see a lighter side of him, He opens up more and we learn more about him and his history. It is pretty clear how he feels about Solina and what he is willing to risk to keep her safe.
Skylar, I love this girl. I want her to be my best friend for life. She really is there for Solina and I adore the friendship they have.
Of course we see other familiar faces we learned to love throughout the series, some struggle and need to find a new foothold in this book.
We also gain some new allies… or do we? And of course we never really know who to trust anymore after the next book.
Over all this a great book with lots of action, humor and some romance and some pretty awesome twists that will make you dizzy. But the ending will leave you really satisfied even when you know you will miss some of your favorite characters with the end if this series.
I rate it 5
“I believe in you”
Finally! The moment I’ve been waiting for for three books, although it felt like forever. The relationship truly became the toe curling, heart-skipping and addictive romance I have so desired! If I could say only one thing it is that Karissa Laurel knows how to hold back, yet give just a little enough to keep the reader fully invested and committed from page one to completion. It is both a blessing and a curse … for me anyways.
Thinking back I can’t really name any issue or anything that really lacked in Molten Dusk, which is of course a good thing. The book really pulled me in with all its action, tragedy and drama. The relationship between Solina and Thorin finally leaving the roadside and going full speed on the highway is what kept me locked to the story. Afterall, the biggest issue I had in the previous books, was that their relationship was kind of standing still and not developing much. Now looking back I realize it was bittersweet. Because although I wanted more of a romance to develop, the fact that they both held back made the progression and romantic moments even more desirable. I love how they could finally moved past their insecurities and what ifs and risked it. I loved Thorins protective side as well his understanding and struggle of not becoming too overbearing and keeping Solina from fulfilling her destiny. Just as much as I loved Solina finally wanting to admit her feelings and finally being able to trust him as he trusts her. And of course their warm and joke-full conversations. While the romantic scenes were on the censored side I did not mind. I get why it was and their love still had my toes curling.
I don’t know if I can call this an issue, but if there is one thing I am still wondering over now that the series is done is the whole Baldur and Skyla situation. The book kind of left it as unfinished. I would really have liked to see some sort of discussion or dialogue between them as well as Embla (her cryptic “I have a way to survive” comment also left in the blue). Baldur never actually said or showed how he felt about them or if he had any desire to connect with them. I mean, considering the whole situation I assumed he did, but nothing that showed would neither agree or disagree with my assumption. The fact that there are things left unsaid and unexplained are maybe hints that the author is working on another book which I am A-okay with! Please do!
A great ending to a thrilling series! I’m really going to miss these characters. Solina goes on a wild journey to save the world, and Thorin swears to protect her at all costs.
Although I wished it went more into their ancient past, I really enjoyed the story, fantasy, and romance. Karissa Laurel created a marvelous adventure. Bravo!
