The most beautiful man I’ve ever seen is the same one who can ruin everything. The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants. And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his … mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.
I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful — pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full time job for me. It has to.
But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.
And it works–if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can’t afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.
Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo…

I loved this book. Temporary is everything I love in a romance novel. It is romantic, steamy, and funny. The story has a really nice pace, the main characters are well developed and likable, and the secondary characters add substance to the story, which is always a plus. It is very well written, and I couldn’t put it down. Didn’t want to, either. I find it interesting that, since it was written by two authors, you can’t really tell who wrote what or when they switched. Their voices are seamlessly blended together.
I loved this story from start to finish. Callan and Grace are perfect together, their witty banter had me laughing and smiling, and their chemistry is combustible. It starts like a sort of enemies to lovers romance, two people supposedly working together but in Callan’s case, with a different and hidden agenda. It’s fun to watch Callan trying to manipulate and seduce Grace at first, and Grace doing everything in her power to resist him. With very little success, though. But then, inconvenient feelings develop and agendas change. So besides the fun times, there is also plenty of emotional turmoil, too. All the family drama gives depth to the story, making it more interesting and heartfelt.
I honestly hope the authors decide to keep them coming, not only because it was damn good, but also because the ending hints at the possibility of a story featuring Callan’s sister Claire rather strongly. Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking.
Any time Shane East is narrating it is a one click for me, so when I started listening to this book by two authors I had yet to listen to I did not know what to expect. That being said, I was hooked from the first page. Loved the dual POV. The characters were well developed and relatable. Plus who doesn’t like a hot Australian hunk with heart like Callan Walker! This was my first book by these authors but definitely won’t be my last.
A fun romantic read. Enjoyed the characters and the role they played.
This was such a fun, sweet read. I loved how entertaining it was and the romance of it all as Callan and Grace really get to know each other and come together.
*5 Stars*
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by either of these authors, and I really loved it. I loved Callan as a character and Grace was quite loveable as well.
They both came from families that were worlds apart, but still had so many things in common in terms of internal feelings about abandonment and people loving them, and somehow they just clicked.
Callan was hilariously cheeky, smart-assed and yet so adorable as well. I alway found it funny when his Aussie accent would be highlighted, because being an Aussie myself, I had already ready the things he says in the accent and because its so normal to me, it would always make me think twice about how Americans would be pronouncing it instead. Particularly how Grace always thought his accent was sexy. I have to laugh at it.
There is a whole lot of scary family dynamic from Callan’s side in this one, and good lord I detested his mother. Whoa. What a cow!
On Grace’s side we had her best friend and also her sister as the two secondary characters and they were really fun as well, particularly her sister Olivia.
The story of Callan and Grace was kind of predictable in some places, and yet it wasn’t in others. I loved their banter and the smart moments, plus the feisty moments and the heartfelt ones. Their story isn’t without issue, but I loved how they felt for each other because of their personalities and not because of their backgrounds.
Also, that ending. Does that mean we get a book about Claire? Please?
Definitely would recommend this one, I’ll be looking out for more from these authors.
SQUEEEEE!!!
Omg. I laughed, I Cried… Twice!!!
It was frustrating and angering and lovely.
In other words, All The Feels.
I hate Vicky…lol. But that’s how good the writing and narration is. You feel all the emotions.
I especially loved how the female and male voice were the individual narrator’s and not a female voice acting male or the male voice acting female.
Superb Narration!!!!
This book was a little slow to start for me. But it definitely picked up about mid-way thru.
The younger sister character managed to bring in humor while also allowing us to see Grace’s caring and selflessness.
Callan was charming and fun, all while showing plenty of turmoil and sadness over his uncle.
The banter between our two main characters was very funny and enjoyable.
This was a solid story with a lot of heart.
The male narrator was good, but I couldn’t really hear an Australian accent.
The female character was perfect and her male Australian voice was excellent.
New to me author combination but I have read Sarina Bowen before and loved her work. I listened to the audiobook. This story was set in New York with main characters Grace and down on her luck Temporary worker and Callan Walker a very rich Australian playboy. Grace get a temp job working for the head of Walker industries, sorting out the estate of the owner Victoria Walker’s late brother Jack. Callan Walker is Victoria’s estranged son and favourite new phew of the recently departed Jack. Great narration especially the Australian accent. Loved this book even through the genealogy and surnames were wrong!!!!
I really enjoyed this book and since the authors teased a sequel I was terribly dissapointed to find they hadn’t yet written it.
I loved the characters and enjoyed the development of their relationship.
Mind blown. I cannot believe I haven’t read Sarina Bowen! This is one of the best contemporary romances I’ve read in a long time. I love Callan and all the references to his Australian accent cracked me up. I loved both characters and the growth they experienced. I was drawn into their world and enjoyed every second. It’s sexy, fast-paced, has clever dialogue, great world-building, and I could not put this down.
And I’m rubbing my little mitts together because I’ve got a backlist for two authors to plow through now!! Highly recommend!
I love Sarah and Sarina’s team writing and books. This one does not disappoint with great characters and a different story line and subject.
Dysfunctional, funny and very steamy
I have read a lot of Sarina Bowen but i had never read a Sarah Mayberry book but these two together were magic i loved this story.
It probably helps I’m from Australia and love an Aussie leading man but i loved that Callan was portrayed as a playboy but even from the start of this novel you knew he was more than that.
I loved Grace and her story and especially her sister who made me laugh out loud a few times but they were both such a great character to read. Grace was so gentle and determined and wouldn’t like handouts from anyone and always wanted to make sure Olivia was always cared for and they had such a special bond.
This story was full of family drama and really had me hooked oh how this book would end. I read this book in basically one sitting cause i really wanted to see how Queen Vic was dealt with.
This book was funny, emotional and had such a great story and i loved every minute of it
I loved everything about this enemies to lovers story!! The narrators had me wanting the book to never end
Audible. Maybe I expected more because this was a collaboration with Sarina Bowen, but I was underwhelmed. It’s not like this was terrible ~ it just wasn’t the *fantastic* that I’m used to with her work. It was predictable and fairly boring. I didn’t hate it, but it’s not something I’d listen to again or actively recommend.
Also, while I’m a big fan of Shane East’s voice, this performance left a lot to be desired. This is in 1st person alternating POV. Callan is Australian. Grace goes on and on about his sexy Australian accent. East performs all the narrative in his native British accent. The dialogue portions are inconsistent in their Aussie accent. I find it annoying that Emma Wilder does a better and more consistent accent for Callan’s lines during Grace’s POV. If he wasn’t capable of holding the appropriate accent, they should have cast someone else.
This won’t keep me from listening to his work in the future, but it was frustrating here. I did give it 3 stars for narration, but that’s because there isn’t an individual rating for each narrator.
This story followed our two main characters’s: Grace and Callan. Grace is working as a temp, a job she has to keep as she is the guardian of her 15-year-old sister. Callan is seemingly living the perfect life. He spends his time lying around on fancy yachts, and partying with his friends in Australia.
Callan’s world is turned upside down when he finds out his Uncle Jack, the one member of his family he loved, has passed away. He decides to fly to New York to make sure his last remaining wishes are fulfilled. When he realizes his mother has hired a temp to see to all his possessions he’s livid.
Grace is just trying to support herself and her sister. Working as a temp at Walker Holdings is by no means her “dream job.” But it’s stable, and could possibly lead to a permanent position.
There’s not a lot happening plot wise, so this story does rely heavily on its characters to carry it. I wish we had learned a little bit more about Grace and Callan as individuals, I saw a lot of growth from them as a couple, but not really individually. I feel like the authors only scratched the surface when it came to them outside the relationship they were forming.
This is a quick and laid-back story (nothing too angsty). And I think there’s going to be a sequel? Not for Callan and Grace, but there’s another character who could possibly get a story… I guess we’ll see.
Temp secretary Grace is given the job of creating the inventory of the beloved late uncle of sexy, playboy Callam. Grace really needs this job, she has bills to pay and needs to keep food on the table for her and her 15 year old sister. Callam smells a rat and it also happens to be his own greedy mother who is trying to get the job finished as soon as possible for her own benefit, so can Callam find his uncles new will in time to carry out his true final wishes before Callan’s mother gets it all? I really liked this book, the characters started off completely different from each other but their hot chemistry brought them together. The story line was interesting and kept you reading, the sex was hot and Callam’s mother was a bitch from hell, the only problem I had with this book is that it finished in an intriguing and strange way, does this mean there’s more? hope so.
‘Temporary’ is flirty, funny, sexy and light-hearted book. Our heroine and hero for the book are Grace Kerrington and Callan Walker. Grace is smart, hardworking, down-to-earth and responsible. She works for a temp agency and when she gets a temp position in Walker Holdings, which has a potential to turn into a permanent position, she jumps at the opportunity. Living in NY is expensive and adding the expenses caused by being a legal guardian of a teenager, Grace needs more stable income. When Victoria Walker, who is the CEO of Walker Holdings, gives Grace the task of packing up her brother Jack’s belongings, calculate the value of his assets and find the fastest way to liquidate them, Grace thinks it will be easy and she will have the job for sure. What she cannot foresee is how hard dealing with Callan Walker be. Callan Walker is the definition of selfish and playboy. Having a controlling, manipulative, evil mother, who cares nothing but work pushes him to live his life as a party boy. However, when he learns that his uncle Jack passed away, his mother cremated him without a funeral and now hired a stranger to sort his belongings, he decides to go to NYC and make sure everything happens according to Jack’s wishes.
From the moment Grace and Callan meets, their chemistry is off the charts. Because Callan has his own agenda he does everything to seduce Grace but Grace is fighting the attraction considering she needs the job and Callan is the son of her future boss. When Grace starts to get to know the real Callan, it gets harder for her to resist his charms. I loved the way story builds up and how it is funny one minute, steamy or emotional the next.
‘Temporary’ was a great story, which is funny, flirty and emotional. I enjoyed the dual points of view because it helps the reader get into the story more and get to know Grace and Callan better. I’m a Sarina Bowen fan and I read all her books. However, this was my first Sarah Mayberry and it won’t be my last. I think they did a great job together and I am hoping to read more from this duo in the future.
Would I recommend this book: Yes.
Would I re-read this book: Maybe.
Would I read future books by these authors: Yes.
