Catherine has been enjoying the single life for long enough to know a good catch when she sees one. Gorgeous, charismatic, spontaneous — Lee seems almost too perfect to be true. And her friends clearly agree, as each in turn falls under his spell. But there is a darker side to Lee. His erratic, controlling and sometimes frightening behaviour means that Catherine is increasingly isolated. Driven … Driven into the darkest corner of her world, and trusting no one, she plans a meticulous escape. Four years later, struggling to overcome her demons, Catherine dares to believe she might be safe from harm. Until one phone call changes everything. This is an edgy and powerful first novel, utterly convincing in its portrayal of obsession, and a tour de force of suspense.

This book is absolutely fantastic! It is one of the most intense books that I have read in a LONG time. It reminded me of a mix of Black and Blue by Anna Quindlen and the movie Sleeping with the Enemy but it contains a lot more edge of your seat type tension. This book is so gripping that I would actually get chills at what I was afraid might …
This book is a special price as of today (12/3/16) and I highly recommend it! I wasn’t sure I’d like it based on the jump between past and present (which can be annoying if not done well) and the depressing theme. I was so wrong. The author weaves past & present seamlessly and I found myself more angry on the heroine’s behalf. Following her …
I found myself having panic attacks the last half of this book. I had to put it down three times because of how the intensity was affecting me. This book is told from two different time frames throughout. We get the normal story of how Catherine’s carefree single life is gradually changed as her relationship with Lee intensifies. We also have …
This is a longer one, more the further I got in the story, the more I had trouble putting it down to go to sleep!
Catherine is a young British girl, enjoying life, going out with her friends and partying. One night, a bouncer at a club, Lee, notices her, and they start dating. Lee seems perfect, he is gorgeous and he is madly in love with Catherine. However, Catherine starts to get antsy when Lee becomes possessive of her and quite aggressive.

I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy this book, yet I read it in two sittings on the same day, meaning I was fully engrossed in the story and on edge for the denouement. While there were no surprises for me in the story, it was an excellent psychological thriller. Cathy’s OCD and PTSD are well portrayed in response to the man, Lee, who stalked her and turned …
The main character Cathy was so relatable with mental illness but learning to not be the illness. Action packed beginning a little hard to follow but once understood why written that way made complete sense and wouldn’t want to read it any other way. Able to read in one day, can’t wait to find more books by this Author.
Some parts were so frustrating because you wanted the main character to get justice so badly! It was incredibly suspenseful and Elizabeth Haynes didn’t water down the plot by trying to appease the reader. Highly recommend!
I picked this book out of random. I literally read this book in one night. I could not put it down. Some of the the things are dark but the characters development is just so intriguing.
First and foremost, I found this to be a compelling and thoroughly engaging novel. Especially notable was the narration in the Audible.com version. Karen Cass gave a perfectly endearing voice and personality to Cathy, the main character. I will certainly seek out other books read by her.
All glory aside, this novel was not without flaws. Some of …
This book was really an excellent read.
This book was great!!! Highly recommend.
This is one of the BEST thrillers I ever read. A real wolf in sheep’s clothing. Could not put in down.
Gives an understanding of how women get caught in abuse.
The first 90% of this book was a page turner. You meet a woman in a very abusive relationship who plots her escape. This story is interwoven with the same woman three years later who is trying to move on and rebuild a very damaged life. At first the abuser returns only in the woman’s imagination, but later it’s not just her imagination. It’s a …
I had trouble in the beginning with the difference in the years on each chapter. But, I ended up loving it as they came together. Would recommend this book and the audio was so good!
Well written. The reader experiences the intensity of the actions.
Good realism on how even successful women can become involved in abusive relationships, and individuals outside the relationship have a hard time believing that an abusive relationship exists. Didn’t like how the book was broken into days rather than chapters and the story bounced between before and after
