Violet and her FBI partners are looking for a sniper / bomber / murderer. This is a fast moving story about how they tract him down. They get a couple clues from a very unlikely source. It is so well written, that a couple times I found my eyes watering when bad things happened to good people. The characters are so interesting , there’s a little humor thru out, and a new relationship forming. I’m looking forward to reading more from these two authors.
very good read, unpredictable,ending,
I love this book! I love Violet Darger. I love Loshak. I love Owen Baxter. I love Violet’s mother and Owen’s mother. This book is a thriller, but it’s full of character and interest. I wish every book I read gave me as much enjoyment and anticipation as this book. Plus it’s well written. I don’t do spoilers in my reviews. If I were you I’d stay away from the long reviews that tell you what happens. You want this story to unfold for you with all the action, mystery and suspense. Enjoy the ride. I sure did!
What a page turner this book was. Full of a lot of action until the very end. First time I ever read anything from these authors and it won’t be the last. Highly recommend reading it.
Way too much profanity. This is supposed to make the protagonist attractive but did the opposite for me. But it had a very good plot and pacing.
The book had some interesting twists I didn’t see coming.
The characters were believable, the settings were good. Flow of events could be followed easily. I liked it.
This book has a strong female lead, FBI Agent Darger. There is a serial killer out killing people in different places. Agent Darger must profile and find the killer before he strikes again. It was a fast paced read, but at times it was a hard read because of the subject matter. You feel the fear and the stark reality of what is happening.
The cover got my attention, the synopsis dragged me in, but this was the second book in the Violet Darger series. Darger is an. FBI profiler, and in this novel she is tracking a pair of brothers terrorizing Atlanta. The story was well-crafted, with a palpable sense of tension with every turn of the page. Vargus and McBain did an excellent job creating characters the reader can easily grow to like (or hate), and their storyline is a gripping one.
.
Some series can be read as stand-alone novels, but this book has many references to one of Darger’s earlier cases. I’m presuming that was the first novel in the series. The ending of the epilogue appeared too be a perfect setup to Book 3. This will be one book I re-read, after reading Book 1.
Would read a second time. that good.
enjoyed reading
Great story. Thoughtful progression of the story. Would read more from this writer…
I enjoyed reading it was very fast reading
Great read can’t wait to read the next one
Very engrossing but an easy read
Killing Season – a review by Rosemary Kenny
Special FBI Agent and profiler Violet Darger and her partner Agent Loshak are drawn into a dreadful, almost true-to-life story of embittered misfit brothers, (one with combat PTSD exacerbating his already deformed personality.
The other is a milder man but in awe of his elder brother. Both endured an abusive relationship with their father, (as did their Mom)…years later both seek vengeance, with horrific results.
LT Vargus and Tim McBain brilliantly play on the reader’s emotions, with increasingly violent acts, that reveal how accurate Violet’s analysis is.
Her reckless actions continually lead both herself and those involved, into situations that could go either well, or badly wrong.
Killing Season resonates intensely with sincerity and attention to detail, in a way that brings to mind similar cases, in US schools, shopping malls etc, as if you were an invisible, on-the-spot observer.

Almost 4 stars for me, and so I leveled up with this review. I enjoyed the second book in the series more than the first, which isn’t common for me. I thought there was a good working rhythm between Darger and Loshak as partners, and I was “buying” their interactions, which seemed more realistic than in the first book. The storyline was more unique than in the first book as well.
What makes 2 brothers go on a killing spree? ‘A Killing Season’ tells their story and how FBI criminal psychologist, Violet Darger tracks them using her sixth sense.
The author’s development of one brother, Luke, included how a troubled past had filled him with hatred and anger that turned ruthless. This story and characters are fiction, but believable. The writing is spellbinding.
Leading to the end, the storyline is intensified with survive or die action for both brothers. I became so captivated with them, I forgot about Darger until she
showed up using her intuitive sense and extraordinary survival skills.
‘A Killing Season’ is the epitome of a suspenseful thriller. Book 3 in series is next for me.
Great read. Entertaining throughout.
