He’s at the right place at the right time to save a woman from falling to her death…but she hadn’t planned to survive. Can he convince her life is worth living, with him?Fergus Reagan’s fascination with photography led him to a career of recording people’s lives. While in Nebraska photographing homesteaders in front of their humble sod houses, he’s at the right place at the right time to save a … time to save a young woman.
Iris Kerns’ suicide attempt was supposed to end her engagement to an abusive man, but her rescuer shows her life is worth living when Fergus takes her home to Clear Creek, Kansas, to help with his new photography studio.
But, the past catches up with Iris, drawing danger to her, Fergus, and his family.
The Grooms with Honor series showcases the six sons of Pastor and Kaitlyn Reagan. The family was first featured in the 1873 year-based Brides with Grit series. Besides the Reagan brothers, the series features other men in their community.
“Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health; and forsaking all others, be faithful unto her as long as you both shall live?”
The young men have heard Pastor Reagan say these words to many couples over the years, and they vow to treat all women this way as they walk through life.
Fergus’ Honor is a stand-alone sweet historical romance set in 1886, but you’ll want to read the whole series to enjoy the stories of the Clear Creek, Kansas community.

YOU ARE FREE OF YOUR PAST
I enjoyed the story of Fergus Reagan and Iris Kerns. The story will nicely tie into other books by Ms. Hubalek but will read as a standalone. Fergus Reagan is the son of Pastor Patrick and Kaitlyn Reagan. The Reagan books have always been taught to protect women and children, and on a fateful day, while in Nebraska set up to photograph a train crossing the railroad trestle over the river, he will see a person fall from the back of the train into the icy water below. Fergus will descend the bank into the muddy waters and rescue a woman. Getting her to shore, she is unconsceince, but alive. Now he must get her up to the wagon and get them both out of the cold weather and into dry clothing.
The tale will take the reader on a journey of how cruel people can be, including the abuse and mistreatment of people, even after the civil war. Iris was born on a Kentucky plantation to the Master and one of the slaves. While she was educated and lived in the plantation house in servant quarters, she was never officially acknowledged as his daughter.
The plot will have Iris jumping from a moving train, deciding death would be better than marriage to Milton Morris as part of the payment for a debt owed by her brother. He is an older man and abusive and has inflicted injury on her. Waking up in a warm wagon, wearing a man’s union suit comes as a shock. Has she jumped from the frying pan into the fire? Her savior, Fergus Reagan, is genuinely concerned and proves to be a gentleman, willing to hide and protect her. “I was raised to be a Good Samaritan, Iris. My only motive is to keep you safe, not to take advantage of you in any way.”
The story will be about faith, family, trust, respect, new beginnings, accepting the past, and moving forward into the future. “Maybe her jumping off the train was a leap into a real future instead.” Fergus will prove he is a man of his word, by his action and deeds. “Time—and sleep—can heal many wounds.” He helps Iris see her worth as a person, a friend, and a valuable employee. But what happens when they start developing feelings for each other, she knows she is a mulatto. “I wouldn’t care if your skin were light purple and your hair bright blue.”
No matter how many precautions they take, they know that Morris is still a threat and looking for her. But with the help of the Reagan and Clancy families, along with alerting the sheriff, they are actively prepared. Never underestimate a Mama when one her own is threatened, or one she has taken under her wing.
I have enjoyed her characters and have followed her series
