A mysterious woven metal artifact is found at a paleontological dig in Africa. Mystified experts, confounded by the impossible timeline they receive from traditional dating methods, call upon a stubborn twenty-something with a unique talent. Matthew Turner’s gift is also his curse: whenever he touches an object, his consciousness is flooded with the thoughts and feelings of those who touched it … it before him, be it last week or centuries ago. It’s a talent that many covet, some fear, and almost no one understands.
Despite being exploited as a child and tormented by the unpleasant experiences imprinted on him from the various items he’s “read,” Matt agrees to travel from New York to the forests of Kenya. There, threatened by unknown enemies, and helped by a beautiful but prickly ally who begins to understand his strange ability, his mind journeys back in geological time to make a discovery so shocking that it forces us to rewrite all human history.

Good read. I enjoyed the characters and the story line
The premise of the book was original and really kept me involved.
I liked it. It had an interesting plot, the main character was not immediately lovable but one came to care for him over time. I liked the concept of someone who can divine the emotions of the person who touched an object, even if it is a long, long time ago.
This is an easy to read mystery/thriller with a couple unique twists. It’s worth the read, but won’t win any awards.
Liked it very much
Amateur writing
Couldn’t put it down, from the psychometric ‘stories ‘ and the back and forth to Matthew’s present day. It left you in moment to moment suspense . The pages turn themselves, leaving you wanting to know what’s next.
Yes, it deals with a race which may have lived on earth before man. However, I thought the author dragged out the plot.
I was very intrigued with the story line. I could tell that this was the author’s first book. The subsequent books got even better and I read all 3 in 3 days.
Good read
Excellent original concept. Likable characters. Looks like the start of a good series
This was a surprising book. It was not what I expected. Although it is a bit of a fantasy book with pre human civilizations as its focus it was a very realistic and fascinating read. The characters and plot moved well and the dialogue was very realistic. I am looking forward to reading the next istalllment of the series.
I read this book in 2 days and bought the 2 follow-up books. I look forward to reading more about Matt Turner who is a great character.
Inventive
Well written story, the blending of the current with the far past was hard to put down.
WOW! This is a book you can’t put down! Don’t start reading unless you have plenty of time. The characters are people you want to meet (well, not all of them.) The situations they find themselves in are so engrossing that you will want to keep reading – not stop in the middle. Don’t miss this book. I won’t give the story away by giving away …
This book has a great story line. Unfortunately it needed a decent editor on spelling and grammar (and some on storyline).
