The terrible tragedy that happen to the family effect everyone differently. Loved Emma story and seeing her find love after not wanting it! This family has grown to be a favorite I can wait to see what becomes of all of them. Emma and Fin’s HEA is one that shows that you can’t fight love when you find it on the side of the road.
This is the 3rd book in the Cake series. I love that each book spotlights a different sibling, but also goes back and fills you in on more details of Jake’s kidnapping. I enjoyed the contrast between Emma & Finn. Great book. Looking forward to book 4.
Loved Emma and Finn
I have to admit that when I first started reading this story I had to wonder if I would continue. Emma was a little dry. She was extremely uptight. She was a nurse and wasn’t liked by her fellow nurses. She really needed a money wrench tossed into her life to shake her up.
Finn got conned by his mom again. His punishment was her POS truck breaking down in a diner on the way to Sun Desert Concert. He created a beautiful vision for Emma as he bent over the engine trying, failing to get it to turnover. Finn is the perfect wrench to loosen Emma.
There journey was a joy to read. There is a couple of passages that had me crying with hard tears of laughter that I had to leave the book just to compose myself. The way he fit in with Emma’s family and her doomed. She would not be able to get rid of him until she does.
If you have become attached to this series (and how could you not???), then this book is the perfect for you. Interwoven within the chapters are pictures of the past. We learn so much about what happened when Jake was abducted, how the family dealt, or didn’t deal with the situation, why they are all the way they are
This was the most emotional book, for me so far, in this series. In book one, Cake, we learn about what happened to Jake with his kidnapping a bit. In book two, Theory Of Second Best, we learn about that day more and how it affected Kyle. Now in book three, we learn about how it shattered the family. Emma was left to pick up the broken pieces when Jake was missing. I can’t even imagine the heart break the family felt and then teen Emma taking on the role as a parent to her siblings while her parents were lost in their heartbreak. This book also showed strong this family is. How they helped Jake take back his life. Because of what Emma went through she became this cold hearted woman. That was until she met Finn at a music festival and he thawed her heart. He had his own share of trauma growing up. His mother was a piece of work and he still managed to grow up to be an amazing man. As Emma tries to fight her feelings life takes an unexpected turn and forces her to see the reality of love. This book had my heart breaking and then putting itself back together. With each book I am going through what happened to Jake over and over again but it feels brand new each time. This book is a beautiful story of how a horrific event can break people and how love can heal. I loved every minute of it.
I didn’t think I’d like this book as much as I did because I wasn’t all that interested in Emma from what I’ve read of her in the previous “Cake” books. But I loved her and her story. Emma is a strong woman who had to grow up fast and be a second mother to her younger siblings when her brother, Jake, was kidnapped. Her parents focused on finding him and dealing with their growing belief that Jake had been murdered. The whole family was pulled into this nightmare and the younger two kids were left to themselves. They gravitated to their sister Emma, who became their rock. As an adult, Emma is a no-nonsense nurse. She isn’t looking for love or commitment and she isn’t interested in being anyone’s mother ever again. But then she meets Finn and her rules and beliefs fly out the car window when she is charmed by his curly-haired, oil-stained, handsome hunk who is down on his luck and needs a lift to a musical festival. Emma changes his luck and changes her own, too. Finn is everything she never knew she wanted and she realizes that she doesn’t want a superficial relationship with him. She wants forever with him.
This is a funny, touching tale centered on two people who deserve each other in every good way.
J. Bengtsson keeps killing it! Her storytelling just keeps improving with each book, and she is going to be a force to be reckoned with. She has a knack for making her characters relatable – and I love her for it! The McKallister clan are just a sarcastic, loving family that have worked so hard to overcome tragedy. Bengtsson was able to flip between past and present to show the reader how beautifully this family has risen from ashes and how this affected our protagonist, Emma. The writing seemed effortless. The story flowed perfectly from beginning to end. J. Bengtsson – nice job!
This story was mostly about taking risks. That was what our fierce Emma did throughout the book; she took chances. And most of those risks involve a daring stuntman named Finn – but I’ll fill you in on that later. You see, Emma had strict rules for herself after witnessing her family deteriorate after Jake’s abduction. She didn’t do love or kids. At all.
Yeah, I get it Keith. I’m a boring cat lady. As that hasn’t been played to death in our family.
She was known as the White Witch at work – after bleaching her hair. Before that she was known as Nurse Nasty or The Rock Star’s Bitch Sister. Yeah, Emma wasn’t a ray of sunshine. She had a fort built around her heart surrounded by a moat filled with alligators. Nobody was breaking in.
Finn was such the opposite of Emma. He was always so positive while Emma was always mentally preparing for the worse case scenario. She was always cautious while he earned a living being reckless. However, I believe it is his positivity that makes Emma continue taking risks and breaking all her rules. I love Emma and Finn together. And the McKallister’s reactions to Finn: priceless.
…your Spiderman raised the bar and did this whole climbing up the wall thing, and it was so cool, I think I might have peed myself a little bit.
He’s like a goddamned monkey. Never seen anyone who can do that shit. Gotta get him in my next video, no joke.
Bengsston knocked it out of the park with this one. I hear we are going back to Casey and Jake in the next book, and I hope there is a wedding!
5 stars!

I am absolutely adoring, and loving this series. This was a sweet, captivating, and endearing journey to go on with Emma and Finn.
Sexy mechanic butt. ~ Literally Plucking someone off the side of the road. ~ Scott’s Birthday Week. ~ Swag Galore. ~ Girls being Girls. ~ Revolutions of the past.
If that isn’t enough for you to know that this book is AMAZING, then I’ll just have to add some more. Emma really is fierce. Just like everyone else’s her life changed in the blink of an eye and being just a teen it had lasting effects that didn’t let her see what life could truly be.
Finn’s life was no pieced cake. But he always saw the good and his undying capacity for live and forgiveness is more then anyone could ever deserve. Until you realize that he is exactly what Emma deserves.
Fierce is right! I could not wait to read Emma’s story. It needed to be told. I absolutely adored her, and Finn was her perfect match. He is sexy, he is humble, and a big sweetheart.
More laugh out loud moments, more tears, and much more fun! I can’t get enough of the McKallister family! This series is amazing. <3
Love the whole series but this one is my favorite…Finn is amazing
Fiercely Emma: A Cake Series Novel by J. Bengtsson (Audiobook)
Narrated by: Andi Arndt, Zachary Webber
Series: Cake 3
4 Stars – Emma’s story was heartwarming, funny and entertaining. I was glad I had read a few books in between this one and the previous one in this series, to allow any overlapping story references to fade a bit. Finn was a down to earth yet optimistic hero – for the most part – and I felt he brought Emma out of her shell nicely. It was a bit of a instant romance, but well written and didn’t feel forced. I did feel Emma got over her issue quicker than I would expect. No matter though, this story left me with a warm happy feeling.
Both narrators did a wonderful job – gotta love when the performances make the book a pleasure to listen to!
