Cody Bower and Demetrius Singleton have been friends for over twenty years even though they are polar opposites. Cody is tall, handsome, athletic, and straight, and Demetrius is average height, more of a thinker, and gay. They have started an animal control business together and have to figure out how to be business partners without letting it affect their friendship, but that’s the least of … their problems. When one of their first clients ends up brutally murdered in what appears to be an animal attack, the two realize something big and dangerous is stalking their tiny town of Parson’s Hollow, and it’s up to them to catch it before it kills again.

I’ve waited for a long time to hear the voices of Hank Edwards’s characters with my very own ears. I was simply delighted when he admitted he would be investing in the audio recordings of the Critter Catcher series. I’m IN LOVE with this narrator! He read the book perfectly and I can’t say how much I appreciate that. In this series, long-time buddies Cody Bower (straight) and Demetrius Singleton (gay) go into business together launching a humane pest control company (Critter Catchers). They are called out to take care of a bothersome raccoon but found a critter that is too brutal for their special methods. A werewolf is running about the small town of Parson’s Hollow committing brutal murders. And the boys must solve the mystery before they become the next victims. This series is such fun and the cast of characters in the book is absolutely amazing. Enjoy, folks.
Terror by Moonlight is an excellent start to this series. The premise is interesting, and the author sets a sturdy stage for books to follow.
Demetrius and Cody play well off each other. They share a lot of humor and snark. Their lack of knowledge of the paranormal and their dealings with it came across as real, just like any regular person in the real world would react to it. I like that. The characters themselves are well written and given their own unique personalities (primary characters and secondary characters) that kept my interest as the story went on.
The gay/straight/best friend trope is done well also. I was not upset when they showed interest in others. Terror by Moonlight is a slow burn, and I am in it for the long haul. I expect them to live a full life, including dating and intimacy with others since they are not a couple.
The lighthearted banter throughout the book softened the grisly and gross carnage created by the werewolf. And there is a lot of gore and blood. And body parts. Ugh. I like that, too.
This is the first I’ve read by this author, and I look forward to more.
This was a really fun story. Cody and Demetrius were crazy in the best ways. I enjoyed their lifelong friendship that seemed to have a chance at becoming more someday. I also appreciated the support they gave each other, no matter what – with a couple of exceptions that involved jealousy on Cody’s part. The mystery here was pretty good, and my heart broke for the victims of the violent, bloody attacks. I loved cranky police officer Lucia, sexy reporter Oliver, and Cody’s lovable grandmother.
This book was great, and I can’t wait to read more adventures of Cody and Demmy!
This was a blast to read. What an interesting take on the shifter/werewolf concept. Not only did it have the suspense and whodunnit feel, it had me laughing out loud. Seriously there first paid job had me rolling. Not so much a romance but I can see it leading to one.
Terror By Moonlight is the first book in the Critter Catchers series by Hank Edwards. As the start to the series, this book lays down the ground work and introduces us the the characters and the universe in which they live.
Cody and Demetrius have been friends for most their lives and decide to start an animal control business together, although from the beginning you can tell that they dont take their jobs as seriously as one should. Of course that’s part of the story’s humor as well. It’s also where the mystery comes in when their first client is slaughtered while they are on his land tracking the wild animal that was bothering the victim. Suddenly there is more than one victim and the two rash and unprofessional business men find themselves in the middle of a complicated and dangerous situation. Of course that’s the perfect time for Cody to start thinking he isnt as straight as he always thought and that Demetrius just might mean more than just his best friend. But is it too late for that revelation? And does it matter when danger lurks?
The story caught my attention… a very promising theme with the Critter Catchers and the best friends who could maybe one day slow burn into more, or not. There is drama, angst, danger, and humor… also paranormal goodness. The characters are fun and interesting, I enjoyed their interactions. I cant wait to see how the series progresses.
I received an advanced reader’s copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
This is the first book I have ever read written by Hank Edwards and I received a nice surprise. The story is light, and easy to read. I really enjoyed the relationship between Cody and Demetrius, his way to support each other, and even if I got disappointed that none of the hot scenes in the book were between them, I have hope that this change in the future books in the series. Action-packed, interesting, witty and funny, the book is great. I’m looking forward to read the next books in this series.
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
This is the first of a series and I am really enjoying it. The characters are quirky, the plot lines a little crazy but engaging and funny and there is a very slow burn romance happening in the wings. They are a series, not standalone and the romance runs the length. So far so good.
Plain and simple, I’m absolutely head over heels in love with every single aspect of this series. I devoured the entire thing in a week—woke up extra early to read, stayed up too late, read while walking, eating, and frankly—instead of writing! Hank Edwards created such a quirky, hilarious, terrifying, and desperately romantic series that it is now going to be one of my comfort re-reads forever. I’ve never been a huge fan of slow burns (I am impatient) or friends to lovers (there never seems to be enough focus on the importance of the friendship) but wow… Edwards did both tropes justice and blew me away.
Our adventure begins with Terror by Moonlight. Cody Bower and Demetrius Singleton are best friends. Have been for nearly their entire lives. Despite polar opposite looks and personalities—Cody the athletic straight guy, and Demmy the quiet thinker who is gay—they have gone into business together after holding down uninteresting, lackluster jobs in their small town of Parson’s Hollow. They’ve opened Critter Catchers, an animal control company with heart. But so far, they’re in the red and have next to no customers.
Their first call is to remove a raccoon from the house of a cranky old man, and during that process both the raccoon and man end up… well… very dead. Bloody and torn apart, as if attacked by a very big and very vicious animal. And to make matters worse, one of Cody’s many ex-girlfriends is a cop on the local force and she smells something hinky about Cody and Demmy’s presence at the crime scene. Add to this a new reporter for the local paper, Oliver, being romantically interested in Demmy, and Cody trying to understand his jealousy—no, it’s just annoyance, really—the guys are in for a wild adventure.
Because what makes this series outrageously fun and scary? Monsters are real and the Critter Catchers are on the case. Cody and Demmy have to face the reality that something very dangerous is lurking in the woods around town and they’re the only ones who can stop it before more citizens are slaughtered.
I’d read this first book a while ago and loved it, but somehow life got in the way and I’d forgotten to read the rest. So when I returned to this title a second time, howling with laughter and freaking out over the chaos that ensued, I dropped off the face of the planet to read the rest of the series. Cody’s uncertainty around his best friend, his confusion and hesitancy over why he finds himself occasionally taking a look at Demmy’s backside, and dealing with his intense dislike of Oliver, is heart wrenching. He’s stumbling around in the dark, trying to make sense of his own sexuality, and is too baffled and afraid to say anything to anyone. Edwards does such an amazing job at crafting Demmy and Cody’s friendship. The depth of their relationship, even in Book One, makes both their inner struggles so profound and believable. Incredible character construction, from positive to negative traits, dialogue, reactions, and everything in between.
