I thought that going after those who’d destroyed my life would help me move on. At the very least, that it would ease the thirst for vengeance singing in my blood. I was wrong. With my guns at my side, I continue to search for ways to punish the one man who took everything from me. The man who killed my family. Death is far too good for him.I want to make him suffer, to take from him everything he … make him suffer, to take from him everything he loves.
To that end, I need a code breaker, one who deals in magical glyphs. But in the hunt for her, I discover there are far more secrets to my life, and my blood, than I ever could have imagined.
Secrets that are burning their way out of the past and the shadows.
A promise dangled in front of me by the enemy of my enemy is too sweet to ignore. And I will cast all my cards on the table for the one chance that the promise he offers is true.
That my son is alive.
God help those who stand between my boy and me.

Audiobook review: Action galore in the second Nix series Book. Many fight scenes, treachery, deaths of supposed friends, and deceit…oh, and a possible love connection. You can listen/read the story as a standalone but I’d advice starting with book one to get the full picture. The narrator did an awesome job!
Dear Lord That Was One Heck Of Ride!!
Revenge, Avenge & Fight On!
Blood of a Phoenix (Nix, #2)
There are so many twisted turns & back stabbing betrayals in this series, so far, I’m shocked Nix hasn’t stabbed herself in the back yet! The Guardian Shadowman, and his minions, are sadistic! They’re going to be a huge a problem. Nix learns so much more about her husband &herself she didn’t know, or maybe didn’t want to know.
Bear is alive but her Dad has him. Her goal is focused solely on achieving what will help her to get him back quickly & safely. Who can she now turn to, trust ~ or at least work with to accomplish that?? Zee, Simon, Noah, Mancini, Killian?? Anyone?? She knows she’ll do what ever it takes to rescue him from her fate as a child. Who will walk into the flames with her?
This was another gripping & tense read. Nix hasn’t lost herself as much as she thought, thankfully. The answers that start to circle are scary but make a sick sort of sense!! I was completely swept up in their story & really loved hearing a few chapters from Bears POV, it brought such an amazing depth that I wasn’t anticipating!!

From the very first word, you’d better strap yourself in for a wild ride! Mayer really does NOT hold back in this book. Very little is as it appears to be, making the entire book gripping to the end. The characters you shouldn’t enjoy show their quirks one minute and true colors the next, so you’d better not get too attached to them. I’d bet anything this is the book where Mayer gains her reputation for killing off main characters much to the chagrin of her readers. And I’m usually one of those people; yet this book captivated me in ways I can hardly explain, and it just works. Someone steps out of line and Nix doesn’t bat an eyelash as she doles out justice. Instead of the mindless killer who singlehandedly hunts down her next mark per her father’s orders, she’s embraced her unofficial title of Justice for the magical and non-magical alike. Despite her quest for vengeance against her father for killing her husband and taking her son. She grows so much as a character that her depth is unparalleled, and we have one book yet to go.
This book is gritty and gruesome, and there was more than one time when I mentally cringed at the horrors she described. And at other times, my heart strings were tugged at so hard that I struggled not to cry. This really is like a female version of John Wick with amazing magical twists and turns. I’m glad the next book is already released because I literally cannot wait to jump into the next book headfirst!
This is a different paranormal read than your average hidden magical world story. Nix is not an easy character to like. She is hard and intense. The supporting characters are at times funny and more open. The storyline is intriguing and has me picking up book two to see where it goes next.
All I can say is Wow! It’s such an amazing book of Nix series! I loved loved loved it! Full with an unexpected twists and turns it kept me on the edge from start to the very last page! I’m glad I had next book already waiting for me to jump into!
Phoenix – Nix is my favorite now!
I didn’t think the 2nd book was going to be as good as the first. BOY WAS I WRONG!! Nix has her work cut out for her in this book. Just when we think we have a handle on the people we love to hate things change and we are sent into a different direction the the one we had before. The pain you feel Nix going through about losing her son. The oh shit moments. How Shannon’s mind works this story is frighting and great. There is enough fast pace action packed adventure that you will not want to put it down. This book left me wanting more. I can’t wait till November to finish up this story…..so many new questions has to be answered.
I LIKE Shannon Mayer as an author but this is not her best effort. A few too many things interrupt the suspension of belief and there is a heavy reliance on deus ex machina. I will give Shannon another and probably two more chances to reacquire her mojo but this set of three is just not worth the time.
I didn’t know if I would like Shannon Mayer’s new series but I really do. I read the first 2 books in the series back to back and was disappointed book 3 wasn’t out yet. I will definitely continue reading the series.
Story flows smoothly, feels like you are watching the story unfold
