Fun read, nice balance between wit, action and plot.
I could not put it down
For a “first book” thought it was fantastic. Looking forward to reading the next, and the next.
slow and clunky
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and plan to read everything this author has written. The banter between characters is original and funny; this first book will hook you.
I love this series. It’s a fun mystery!
good story with a side of humor
Great read!
Didn’t like the religion, but it was fast moving.
I ran across this author on Book Bub. Read the first book in the MacKenzie August stories and was hooked. The hero is very amusing and clever in his “aw shucks” ways. THE LAST TEACHER is the prequel to the series and it sets the stage. Can’t wait for them.
I definitely enjoyed this and immediately got the authors second book that am reading now!
I enjoyed the writer’s style. Great topic and good storyline.
I liked this book. I liked that the main character was such a good and devoted dad. I liked his dad. But there were so many characters in the story, sometimes I would forget who was who. I was surprised by the ending. Loved that the book is a stand alone.
Alan Lee’s books are a delight. This is the 3rd but not last Mackenie August book I’ll read. Although it was written first and published later, this prequel helps set the stage for the series. I am delighted to say that his style and plots seem to me to have improved with each book and I will continue to follow him and read August’s further adventures. His cast of characters grows and fills out with ensuing stories. They are all a little quirky but great additions to the book. There were too many quips for me in the first couple books but his style and sensitivity grow with each new effort.
It is an enjoyable read. It gives some basic background to Mack but isn’t necessary to understand him
