At not quite fifteen, Stefan’s father finally let him board the longship Sja Vinna to take part in his first Viking raid. Yet, the battle was not at all what he expected, and he soon found himself alone and stranded in Scotland. Thirteen-year-old Kannak’s problem was just as grave. Her father deserted them and the only way to survive, she decided, was to take a husband over her mother‘s … mother‘s objections. Suddenly she was helping a hated Viking escape. Could Kannak successfully hide a Viking in the middle of a Scottish Clan? And why was someone plotting to kill the clan’s beloved laird?

Too predictable
. Perhaps it was meant for young adults.

While there were some elements that required a suspension of disbelief, the story was unlike anything I’d read previously. Some of the character development was really good and I found myself invested in the story.
Good concept. Never fully developed.
I will look for the rest of the books in the series!
A very good book. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. While it has its unlikely coincidences, as do many books, it keeps the tale moving and interesting. It is a “feel good” story. I particularly liked the historical setting in which the story takes place.
Loved this historical depicting of the Vikings with a nod to tribal clan intrigue.
Fun! So fun, I bought the rest of the series! 🙂
A coming of age Viking story of a stranded son ina non-Viking world. The Viking father wrecks in a distant land, the son is injured and after an injury find himself alone amongst a gentler community. Falls in love with and makes a new life, until tested when the Vikings return.
This story wasn’t what I thought it would be and I was pleasantly surprised.
Not a good story line
Enjoyable read
Far fetched at times but a decent read.
Good reading
I really enjoyed the characters. Great story, loved the romance between Stefan and Kannak. A great historical fiction read!
Well researched historical book about the times of the Viking raids. Great story with characters you care about, I look forward to reading more books in this series.
Obviously the start to a series, this has good cultural appeal. The characters are a bit 2 dimensional, with a bit of a heavy handed outlay of Scots stereotypes. The “end” is a little too easy to guess.
More of a young teens book. Interesting, not too deeply researched.
This is a good, quick read. The characters are fun and you care about them and like them. The action and story move along swiftly and the tale is believable with good historical information. The narration gives good vivid details that let you imagine the scenery and action.
