You know that eccentric great-aunt no one wants to sit beside at family functions? Or that neighbor who’s just a little too strange to get to know? Or the pushy woman at the thrift store? Maybe you know Gertrude. She’s rude. She’s frightfully frugal. And she’s fearless. Here are the first three Gertrude, Gumshoe novellas, collected for you in one place. She’ll find a body in a house of balls. … place
.
She’ll find a body in a house of balls. She’ll tick off the local police. She’ll go undercover at Goodwill. And she might even manage to get herself kidnapped while yardsaling. All in the name of justice.
“FUN, FUN read!”

I had listened to a couple of the stories in this set before, and when it came out as a box set, I just had to listen again. Now I’ve been able to enjoy them all.
Gertrude is one of my all time favorite characters in cozy mysteries. Robin Merrill has developed her in such a believable way, and I can’t imagine anyone but Darlene Allen bringing her to life. I actually laugh out loud at her antics.
I really hope we get to see much more of Gertrude… I’m a true fan!
Cranky elderly hoarder with walker living in a trailer home; gets her detective groove on. Dogged determination and a few unwilling cohorts make for a cute story. Easy on the brain, I’d read a sequel
Absolutely entertaining, more fun than what I was expecting.Every page kept a smile on my face ,and the characters complemented each other in such an odd ,yet perfect way. I highly recommended that you check out this Author if you enjoy a fast paced humorous filled reading experience.
Gertrude gumshoe is the funniest character!! She an elderly woman who doesn’t think she’s elderly, solving murders!! It’s laugh out loud hysterical! I couldn’t wait to read the next chapter. I read through the first three books, ordered the fourth, read it and have now pre-ordered the fifth one when it come out! Definitely a must read!!!
loved it
Delightful, irreverent character of Gertrude Gumshoe – a curmudgeon who makes for interesting reading.
I loved these stories. so cute and so funny, typical old people’s attitude toward events that just happen.
These books were a fun who-dunit. Made me laugh out loud.
Meeting Gert and her friends was great. The storyline was good, fast moving and fun. This is a great read.
3 stories about an elderly woman who decides to become a “gumshoe, a private investigator, junior grade. Of course, she really knows nothing about what to do and is learning by trial and error. Since she has no car, she depends on a ride service for elderly/handicapped people a lot, but more and more comes to rely on a curmudgeonly neighbor to drive her around. She uses a walker, so she’s somewhat limited in getting around, but still manages to get into situations involving abandoned children and blackmail, murder, a job at a recycling center, then even a potentially paying customer. Eventually she comes to realize that she will need training and licensing to become a real private investigator who can charge for her services. And that’s just the first three adventures. More to come, which I hope will involve her cats more — she seems to have nine or ten of them.
Lighthearted,easyread
Kind of cute but kind of cheesy.
I finished them, but have no desire to read any more of them.
Could have been very funny, but just missed. I liked the characters, but wish they had lived up to their promise.
Couldn’t finish. The main character too unrealistic and weird. Hard to like her or believe what she’s doing.
Numerous, light reading
Just average. Gertrude’s manipulations are intended to be cute and quirky, I found them annoying. Average story. Hard to remember from a week ago.
