Just as the description says, it is a modern day Beauty and the Beast. It is a sweet, clean romance. It is a quick, enjoyable read.
Loved, loved, loved Lauren and Shanes story because this story is so relatable to anyone who has found themselves not knowing what to do with their life and finding their passion where they least expect to find it! I can’t wait to read the other books in this series so I can find out what happens with Lauren’s friends in Alaska and her continued career in dog sledding!
Great start to a new series
I really like this book. The story is well written with drama, mystery, clean romance, beautiful landscapes and best of all the dogs. I like that the characters Lauren and Shane are not perfect people. Lauren goes snooping when she shouldn’t and Shane is a grumpy person. They are still good, caring and giving people you can’t help but like. The plot is written with a lot of detail and twist and turns that will keep you turning the pages. I enjoyed reading this story and recommend.
LET THERE BE LOVE is the first book in the Sled Dog series. Each stands on their own. In fact, I have read the second book first.
What a cute way to retell Beauty and the Beast in modern times. Our beast is an Alaskan musher who has been injured in training and Beauty is an optimistic orphan looking for information about her father’s past as a musher!
I loved that this was a clean romance. I read a lot of racy romance and love it too, but every once in a while it is refreshing to enjoy the purity of clean romance. That’s not to say that there isn’t conflict. Shane is over-the-top grumpy, and Lauren has to deal with mourning the loss of her father and the secrets she is uncovering about his past in Alaska.
I loved the slowly building relationship, friendship, and finally love between Shane and Lauren. I also loved the dogs. It made me giggle when they were referred to as “husky pucks” when they curled up after the first race.
One key to this book (and the series) is that the author’s husband was a trainer and musher at one time and has shared his knowledge with her to add as much realism as possible to her stories. There is nothing to compare to ready access to anecdotes and experience.
I’ve already read the second book, so I’ll be reading the third book next! I’ll start as soon as I finish writing this up.
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: LET THERE BE LOVE
Series: Sled Dog #1
Category /Genre: Contemporary Romance
Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content
Grammar/editing: A – near perfect
Received from: Melissa Storm (as a gifted copy)
Lauren is a great character, she is one of those with the mentality to deal with things head on. Shane is definitely a beast, I did feel sorry for him after he explained what he was going through but he still seemed a bit reserved or stand-offish. A case of opposites attract, their story flowed well but there was a lot going on at the end which changed the pace. The sled dogs were very interesting and I laughed out loud when she took her first ride. Very enjoyable & emotional read that tugs the heart strings.
I enjoyed this book and getting to know Lauren and Shane. Some parts were a little confusing about the characters, like why Lauren didn’t really grieve her father’s death that much (just heads on up to Alaska without ever having been there days after his death) and gets accepted as a hander on a sled dog “crew” even though she’s never even been around dogs before! That seemed a little far-fetched to me – she doesn’t even get trained for it so how it she supposed to know what to do??!! but still, I enjoyed the story a lot and look forward to the next book. Lauren’s friend, Scarlett was an absolute sweetheart and I can’t wait to read her story!
I really loved thos book! I loved both Shane and Lauren and how they interacted. I especially loved the setting in Alaska and the dogs! Especially poor Briar Rose left in the cold! Very entertaining, funny and heartwarming! This book is a must read!
Let There Be Love by Melissa Storm
Starts with offer of a free gift Lauren has just gotten news that her father had died and she thinks that is impossible. they had just exchanged Christmas gifts.
She quits her job because her boss wouldn’t give her time off from work and prepares her fathers affairs.
Memory boxes of their life are in his closet but she finds one about Alaska and dog sledding which she knew nothing about.
All kinds of newspaper clipping and she starts to understand about his other life. One of Shane and his dogs but he’s injured and needs a handler. Her dad was one of the top best.
Wicked funny he has rules set for her while she’s living at his house tending to the dogs and training…
Love learning about the terminology of the mushers as she investigates her father and Shane’s lives in Alaska.
Fire makes him fire her and she leaves … she thinks she is good with the dogs and agrees to help him when he comes back.
They both have hidden pasts that come to light and they have a lot of turmoil to get through, alone or together?
Next book involves Scarlett. Loved how this story came about. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.
Review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
I loved Mrs. Storm’s retelling of “Beauty and the Beast” with an added touch of sled-dogs. Fast read that includes family, new friends, uncertainty, and love. Cannot wait to read more of the series.
You had me in tears even from the first when her father died. This is an amazing story of healing for two people’s hearts. And the dogs were great too! I enjoyed all the characters! I enjoyed it immensely!
I love the story. It is a clean well written story. Melissa Storm has a way of telling a story and they seem so real. I love that her books are clean. Can’t wait to read the next book in her series. I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. I highly recommend.
A sweet, clean romance story with some drama mixed in that was easy to read and follow. Loved the story and how it was written. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series
I have always been fascinated by dogsledding. The picturesque scenery, the beautiful dogs and the connection that builds between the dogs and their trainers. That sport is truly a thing of beauty to watch. Naturally, I was drawn to Let There Be Love for that reason. However, I stayed because I am in awe of the author and her ability to create powerhouse tales of courage that mix the fairy tales of old with the lessons of life. Ms. Storm manages to inspire as she informs. Her stories are thought provoking, emotionally charged works of art, despite the subject matter her stories get people talking and that’s a trait that every author hopes for.
Let There Be Love (Sled Dog #1) by Melissa Storm was a very emotional read for me. I too like Lauren Dalton lost my beloved Daddy recently. My heart went out to Lauren. I felt what she was feeling. At first I didn’t like Shane Ramsey! To me he was a bit of a bully, emotionally closed off and I didn’t care for what I thought was “his way or the highway” way of doing things. Then as the story went on i realized this was his way of protecting himself, that if he could control things he wouldn’t have to deal with any more hurt. This is the first book in a brand new series and I think Melissa Storm is off to a very good start. This is a great book. Emotional and sweet. I love the setting of this book. I received a ARC from the author.
What an emotional roller coaster ride – or should I say dog sled ride! I loved this book. The interaction between Lauren and Shane was so full of ups and downs. Lauren is a strong woman, full of life and yet she is searching for her goal in life. She impulsively quits and job and, after burying her father, heads across the country from New York to Alaska to find her future and clues to her past.
I loved how each of the characters unfolded their secrets.
This is a great story to read in front of a fireplace or anywhere else for that matter. The plot and characters are well developed. The story kept me want to find out what would happen next. I also loved the Afterword Usually the author writes this, but this was something special and was written by the author’s husband, who had first hand experience with being a musher in Alaska.
If you love dogs, adventure, the thought of living in Alaska, romance, and great stories, this is for you.
Lauren have just lost his father and s’ha is retingut to figure out her life when she finds a box in her father’s house with some old journals from Alaska and her father’s pastShe accepts a job as a handler with Shane, a famous dog racer badly injured in an accident and emotionally closed to the world. Could they help each other find the happiness and love that they deserve? A very beautiful story about friendship, family love and forgiveness.
Romance, Dogs, Snowy Alaska – Perfection!
What a wonderful story. The sweet romance is set in Alaska with dog sled racing as a backdrop. As with all of her stories, this author sets good, Christian moral values into a tender story where life is far from perfect. This should be an excellent series with some great characters and plenty of dogs. I plan on reading the whole series as soon as they are published. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to share my honest review.
