“A richly dark and intensely compelling read.” ~ Old Dave’s Romance Reviews
”I knew Belle Brooks was a genius when it came to words, but I didn’t realize just how evil she could be. Yes, I read Always You, but there was a beauty to that evil cry-fest. One Fear is different. So different and so good. I couldn’t put it down, even when I had to get up and do real life things the book went with me.” ~ Author, Abrianna Marchesotti
“What the bl**dy h**l did I just experience, and I say experience instead of read as my heart is still pounding loudly in utter shock and fright after just putting this down.” ~ Beckie Bookworm
“This author ain’t playing games. There were no sweet nothings to lull you into a sense of security. No gentle prodding to warm you up to the idea of the terror to come. Nope, she dumped us right into the thick of things. Right into the horror show … ” ~ Natalie The Biblioholic

This book is INSANE INTENSE! It was AMAZINGLY written. So, so good. In no time at all you are diving deep on a roller roaster, gripping on hard for quite a wild ride.
I have had the Game of Life series on my kindle for awhile and life kept getting in the way of my reading it. But no longer will I allow that to be the case. This is book one, a psychological thriller about survival. It is a heart-thumper.
After being away from work for so long and returning sometimes Morgan often gets caught up at work. Wanting her marriage to return to the way it was Morgan decided to make a conscious effort, to get home early. Reid misses what he had with Morgan and some doubt comes in as to whether she may be having an affair.
Everything changes in the blink of an eye, on the way home from work with getting a flat tire, Morgan wakes up to being bound in the boot of a car, the voice of the man sounds familiar, but she can’t be sure. All Morgan knows is he calls her Red and himself the Wolf, he has left her with a back pack containing items that she will need and that there are five tasks. After thinking she may be smart enough to outsmart the Wolf he finds her and tells her to run.
Reid at first is angry that Morgan again hasn’t made it home for dinner, he even begins to wonder if she may be somewhere else, as time goes on, he tries calling her mobile with no answer so calls the cops, when they seem to do nothing he decides to look for her car. Finding the car, and not long after the police turn up. Suddenly Reid finds himself in the police station being questioned while his wife is missing.
Ends in a cliff hanger – can’t wait to see what happens with Red and the Wolf.
This book is a scary, kidnapping game of guess who. It will have you holding your breath and overthinking every move you have ever made in you life.
Eek!!!! I’ve been wanting to read this for ages. The cover just lured me in and the story is super intense! I hate novellas because I’m a greedy reader that wants the whole book and not get it in small bits. I couldn’t put this down and devoured every page with hungry eyes! I need the next book ASAP! I need to know what happens next! Fab read so far!
Oh my gosh this novella was so darn great! Morgan and Reid are a married couple experiencing marital problems. She’s went back to work after being home with the kids for years. Morgan is asked to work overtime to which her husband is distressed and frustrated over. Only this time she’s not working late, things have taken a horrible turn and something she hadn’t bargained for…The Wolf. Will Morgan survive the Wolf’s games? Such a thrilling and nail biting read, and I can’t wait to read the next book.
This is a fast paced read that keeps you anxiously turning the pages. Brooks sets the tone for a realistic home situation and turns it on its head. This has a similar feel as the “Saw” movies… like a train wreck that’s happened but you can’t look away.
Having read this author before I could easily get into this one. This has a heightened suspense to this one with a twist in the story.
Morgan has to play a game she did not choose so that in itself makes for tension. This is a intense dark intrigue with you scratching your head at times. This is quick with you being a captured reader in this game.
This is certainly not a book I would pick and read I will be honest but when it comes to Belle Brooke’s I knew I had to give it a go and I am so glad I have been pulled out of my comfort zone because holy balls this was quite a ride and I know it’s not the end which is exciting.
All I can say without giving anything is away throughout this novella the adrenaline was pumping and really didn’t know what was going to happen next.
This novella is full of games, dark corners and a heart broken husband whose despair you could feel pumping through the pages. It has you guessing and thinking really hard what could possibly happen and who is he.
Even though I don’t read books like this I am hanging for the next installment, can’t wait and I am glad this is a novella as it gives you time to take it in and get you ready for the next episode.
I love an author who isn’t afraid to step out and write something different and this is so different to Belle’s other books and I love that.
Morgan is working late again and her husband Reid is not happy about it. She rushes home only to get a flat tire. Thankfully a man stops and helps her out. Just when Morgan thought the worst was over she gets is a fender bender. But this isn’t your ordinary accident, now she’s been kidnapped and is in the fight of her life. Seriously this is a good book. Definitely want the next book.
So “One Fear” is the first novella in The Game Of Life Series by Belle Brooks.
And this is also the first thing I have ever read by this author.
I also would like to add that the front cover here is breathtaking and exactly how I pictured Morgan in my mind after Reid’s heartfelt description of her.
So what the bloody hell did I just experience, and I say experience instead of read as my heart is still pounding loudly in utter shock and fright after just putting this down.
What an earth has poor Morgan done that merits such an intense level of hatred directed at her and how can she not no why.
but I digress I’m gonna give you a very brief glimpse into “One Fear”
Someone wants to play a game.
And if you win they will let you go home.
Home to your lovely life, handsome husband Reid and adoring children.
To win, it’s easy, answer a question, who am I?
Twelve have come before you and failed.
They paid for there sins
Your number thirteen
And there’s only one rule here Red run!
Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf
Morgan Banks is.
Elsewhere, Reid Morgan’s husband is slowly unravelling as the police don’t seem to be taking him seriously and he’s going out of his mind with worry.
Where is his wife?
Now wow, this was a truly terrifying tale,
Set in Australia and told from two points of view Reid and Morgan herself, we get to experience everything as if in real time.
I was gripped throughout and though short, of novella length, every word was made to count here.
I still have absolutely no clue to what is going on here, not the foggiest, absolutely stumped.
So as “No fear” closes with me scratching my head in confusion I am already salivating for part two of this addictive tale.
I can not recommend this fucked up story enough.
I felt like I was in an episode of criminal minds.
I need to read part two immediately.
This is heart-poundingly psychological mindfuckery at its best enjoy.
I know I did.

Ok seriously this is one diabolical story. Call it cat and mouse, call it Red and Wolf, but there is no denying it to be either and both. The author does a fantastic job of making the reader feel the emotions and pain of the characters, especially Morgan. Pretty sure my heart was beating wildly through most of this book. I mean, this is one of those huge fears I think many of us have. And I’m not sure who this guy is, but the word serial killer is coming to mind. Also, huge cliffhanger ending! A very intense read!
OMG! Morgan’s story had me on the edge of my seat. Both she and Reid are going through hell, to say the least. I am anxious to read the next episode, but I definitely need a book break first.
I’m not really sure what to think of this novella. It was ok, but I personally felt it was way to short to really get to know the characters or form any attachments to them. I personally don’t feel the pull to keep reading. I did like it, I see the potential that it could have. I did like Reid, I felt something for what he’s going through, but other then that…. I just didn’t feel anything. Great concept and mystery, but for me, the execution didn’t work with breaking it into more smaller parts. I know amazon says 100 pages, but it felt a lot shorter then that to me. I have loved all this author’s other books, so I won’t stop reading her books, but this just wasn’t up to the standard that I hold for her. 3 Stars #2OCCJD

Honestly I’m not sure why I struggled with loving this one. The writing is fantastic and it’s also thrilling combined with a cliffhanger that leaves you with the one and only question “Belle, WTF did you just do to me?”
Maybe it’s because One Fear is a novella and it’s way too short (IMO). Everything felt a little rushed. But on the other hand, maybe that’s exactly what Belle wants us to feel: To feel the rush, the thrill, the heartbeat, the despair, the fear, the need to escape.
And maybe I’m not really used to read this genre, however I really can’t wait for the second book as I truly need to know where this is going!
If you are up to a quick and thrilling ride with a book that probably leaves you with more open questions than you find answers in the first book of this series, than you should definitely go with this one!
What I love about Belle is she has no fear. Her books are different, I love that I won’t get bored. The first chapter draws you in, I was tired reading this as it’s Sunday and my chill day. But let me tell you it woke me up, it was dark, sinister with a touch of evil. I have questions as I continued reading. None I can reveal as they would be considered spoiling.
My biggest question why HER???
I need more now!!!!! I know its a novella series but my goodness it has me guessing already.
Reading this book, it like falling down the rabbit hole you become Morgan…
…Belle’s words make you feel like you are her…
…and you feel Morgan’s frustration, guilt, and “one fear”…
Page turning, suspenseful…..
…..nail biting, what is going to happen next??
One Fear (The Game of Life Series Book 1)
Belle Brooks
When I bought this book, I was really unsure of what I was getting, but I figured for $0.99 I wouldn’t be out much if it was a disappointment. Let me tell you, it most assuredly was NOT. I would pay significantly more for this story. It was a well written piece. The characters were developed well, the story-line hooks you to the point you don’t realize you’re nearing the end until BLAM book over. I really enjoy these types of books, the psychological thrillers that twist and torment you. I also really like the alternating points of view. Ms. Brooks is very talented in that her writing evokes such fear over what is going to happen. It just grabs a hold and won’t let go.
