★ ★ ★ ★ ★ “Bella Forrest and Cassandra Clare fans can get ready for their most addicting read yet!” From International Bestselling author Ashley C. Harris. When Rose was born in the year 1544, she and the other gargoyles were a beautiful race of humans with dragon’s wings. Created by magic, the gargoyles were able to do and take whatever they wanted… Until the vampires came, and with them, they … and with them, they brought a curse.
Almost five hundred years later, Rose awakens from stone in Washington DC, to a world that’s very much changed. The kingdom of the gargoyles is no more; instead, the same group of blood suckers that cursed Rose’s family now rule a hierarchy of shades and shadows.
Desperate to awaken her loved ones and break the spell, Rose learns she must convince Sean Noble, a human, to fall in love with her. Something that should have been easy… if he and Rose weren’t only seventeen, and required to attend school.
Sean and his high school girlfriend dislike Rose as much as they do homework. And to make things worse, the handsome vampire prince, Adamus, who betrayed Rose in the year 1556, he and his bad boy brother have surfaced….
Rose, before graduation, must find a way to keep her identity secret from Adamus, not let him get too close, and trick Sean into falling in love. Easy if you have wings, right? Not so much.
Readers of Twilight, Vampire Diaries, and Shadow Hunters will love this story’s female hero who brings a new level of fierce into a supernatural game.

This is the first book I have read from this author Ashley C. Harris and I will be reading the series as this ended in a cliffhanger and I really enjoyed this take on gargoyles. The story takes us from the 1500s to present day. The story of Rose she is a very strong female although she doesn’t see herself as such, she does learn how to defend herself and the ones she grows to love. I can’t wait to see what adventures await her in the next book, who she actually ends up with, if she finds all the pieces of her mother and siblings. Good one to start a series, complete with vampires, witches and wizards, and of course gargoyles.

As soon as I saw this book jacket I contacted Ms Harris to tell her I had instantly fallen for the cover & premise of the book and was dying to read it as Gargoyles and Fae are my favourite Supernatural beings. Finally, I was so excited to read a book where Gargoyles were beautiful, good & portrayed in a positive light!
The next day Ms Harris contacted me, saying she loved my email and would pass on to her publisher as her publisher decided who got an ARC of When Gargoyles Rise.
I waited in the hope, I would receive one, but unfortunately the book release came & went, the n the ARC Reviews were posted. I was devastated, I knew I wasn’t chosen.
Then several weeks later an ARC arrived in my inbox, I was so ecstatic, I read it in a few days!
I absolutely loved this storyline, the characters, the cover and 97% of the book, unfortunately there were a few instances where the author’s wording of sentence pulled me out of the story as I would have to re-read it two or three times to make sense out it, but other than that, I have no problem recommend this book.
OMGODDESS, that ending, Wow, Wow, Wow! I speed read the last 5 or so chapters as I just couldn’t wait to find out what would happen, how would it concluded? So Book 2 here I come!
This is the first book I have read of Ms Harris’s, but it certainly Will Not Be The Last!
I want, No I need, No, I’m dying to find out what happens next as Book 1 is left on a cliffhanger, so if you’re not into cliffhangers this is not the book for you, but as Book 2 is already available, and there’s not much of a wait on Book 3, this is one series you can almost binge read, back to back to back!
So if you’re into a series read, this sure is the one for you, And just like a good bottle of wine,
I can only see this series getting better and better with time, as characters grow & the romances develop & blossom and partnerships & trusts are formed in “When Gargoyles Choose” & “When Gargoyles Drown”, I’m sure too so will the caliber of these books.
Why not do yourself a favour, grab the books and a glass or two of wineî and have a read-a-thon today! I Rate “When Gargoyles Rise” 4.3 Out Of 5!
I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book to read and write a fair & honest review.

I enjoy these type of books, while reading sometimes it takes me a while to finish as I have to stop and visualize in my mind that I am in the settings with the characters. Looking forward to reading this book.
I was surprised how much I loved this book it’s one of the best ones I have read in a while
I liked this story. There were parts that were a little hard to keep up with because the modern timeline wasn’t real clear. The author aged the character without making it clear that she had done so. A week, a month, a year, or a few years would go by and as a reader, it’s a little confusing if we’re not being told from one moment to the next if last night was last night, or last year. Aside from that, the story progressed smoothly, and the characters were written really well. I think the way she wrote the emotions into the book translated well also. I have picked up the second book.
Rise Gargoyle Rise
(Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.) When Gargoyles Rise, Book 1 of the Shades and Shadows series by Ashley C. Harris is a romantic, thriller, suspense, paranormal read. Although classified in the Young Adult category this book’s interest can span well beyond. The author has accomplished to tickle your imagination with her character and world building capabilities, which are very rich, deep with a wide context that allows the reader to touch and feel the surroundings. To be able to keep two worlds, the old which is the basis of the series along with the contemporary without diminishing the importance of either is to be applauded. The ending, however, is one of those cliffhangers where you are engrossed in the page-turning story, you can’t wait to turn to the next page which is in the next chapter, you turn the Chapter Page and there is nothing there. NOTHING. I froze. And then I just became angry because these are the least preferred endings I would choose. For me as the reader, it is rude and a tactic to try and force me to purchase the next book rather than do so because I want to. This cost a star in an otherwise 5-star book. I STILL RECOMMEND READING: When Gargoyles Rise, Shades and Shadows Book 1 by Ashley C. Harris –Tex.
This story intrigued me with the mix of characters and their hierarchy. There is a cliff hanger for an ending, which I was not prepared for. Despite expectations, Rose wants to figure out her own life and move about on her own. She has a strength and it grows as the story moves along. I am curious as to where the story goes from here and to find out who she ends up with.
I received a copy of this book as a prize, and this is my unsolicited review.
I loved this book it was so interesting and intense I really felt like I was there and I couldn’t stop reading it. It only took me a few days to read it and I had wished I could read the second . If your into romantic fantasy books then I suggest you read this wonderful book .
