In the hills of Tennessee, Shane Carson, a gifted, nationally-recognized horseman, is living the good life. When a mysterious mustang shows up on his farm, Shane doesn’t know how — or why — the horse appeared, but the horse’s distinctive brand identifies her. She is one of the Spirit Horses, a rare, wild herd that runs free on the Shoshone reservation in Wyoming. Watched over for centuries in the … the tribe’s ancestral valleys, these exquisite horses, according to belief, provide a link to the afterlife.
When tragedy strikes in his life, Shane nearly loses his will to live — but for one promise he made to his young son: to return the mustang to her rightful home.
On this bittersweet journey, Shane finds a world where tradition reigns, and ancient beliefs transcend modern logic. In this magnificent expanse of blue sky and wide open spaces, love is alive, but hate, intolerance, and greed threaten to close in.
To make good on his vow, Shane must face the danger that threatens these horses, the tribe’s legacy, and his destiny.

I appreciate learning about native Americans and their territories, as well as cultures, especially through such a vivid story.
This book is so descriptive you feel like you are in the story and know all the characters. You could feel and hear the sounds and wished you could be there in person to see what the author saw. Such a great story, loved every page.
I read this book in two evenings, and am so glad I got the opportunity. This is a beautiful, realistic story which takes you thru a whole gamut of emotions, especially if you are a horse lover. There are two places in this book which literally caused me to sob out loud and feel the anguish of the characters, and many others which took my …

A captivating and emotional well written story that kept my interest throughout the story. Several interesting characters along with several unsavory characters as well. So many levels of emotions from love, greed, tragedy and sadness. The main character, Shane Carson is a talented horse whisperer who through his grief traveles for the purpose …
This book felt like a friend from the first page. Each character was real with no exaggerations of emotion. A beautiful way of life too rarely experienced.
One of the best books I’ve ever read.
This was a wonderful book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though it was a fiction it could have been based on a true story of the plight of the Indians and the Mustangs they protect.
Spirit Horses started out really well. About halfway thru it started to drag. It was a good story but could have used some trimming. The romance seemed clunky to me. Shane had the idea he knew what people should be allowed to know. He controlled the flow of information, for everyone else’s benefit, a little smug for my taste.
You have to …
