Vasilije Markovic is the prince of the Serbian mafia and one of the most powerful men in Chicago. His smile may be razor sharp, but he’s crueler than the devil.I’m playing a dangerous game and betting my life I’m going to win. I pretend to be his pawn. I do as he says and move where he tells me, letting him think he’s in control as I position myself for revenge. Every turn brings us closer. His … brings us closer. His grin doesn’t seem as evil when we’re alone. Behind closed doors, I welcome his unrelenting and vicious personality. He’s confessed all his secrets, but I’m holding one back and it’s a game changer.
If I survive the board, this pawn turns into a queen. I become the most powerful player and send all the other pieces running. To get what I want, I must make sacrifices, but am I willing to draw the line at him?

Torrid is the second book in the Sordid Series, but could definitely be read as a standalone. It is sexy, dark and suspenseful!
Vasilije is making his name as nephew and next in line to Serbian mafia crime boss.
“He was the devil and tasted like sin. Dark, delicious evil.”
Oksana, the illegitimate daughter of a Russian mafia king, has an agenda of her own. She is a strong, resilient heroine. Oksana really learns so much about herself and as she grows and changes, she is the catalyst that changes Vasilije.
“Looking at him was the same as staring at the sun. He was scorching. Beautiful. Fascinating, but I couldn’t do it for too long or I’d risk permanent damage.”
I loved this dark and exciting and HOT story!
5Stars!!
Torrid By Nikki Sloane is a hold on to your pants type of ride.
It’s the sort of story that once you start reading your racing to the finish line, it’s that good.
So where to start, Well first we have Vasilije Markovic, second in line to his uncle and part of the Serbian Mafia.
Vasilije is a cold foul-mouthed, vicious twenty-four-year-old man. What he wants he gets and he wants Oksana his Russian plaything.
Oksana has been sent in undercover by her father, head of the Russian mafia. She is the illegitimate daughter of Sergey.
But Our girl has a plan to double-cross her father and get Vasilije on board, let’s just hope she doesn’t manage to get herself offed in the process.
Oksana is not like most girls she has a dark side that seems to feed Vasilije’s lust for her.
These two damaged individuals fit together like a jigsaw, each one seeming to need the validation of their mirror to feel whole.
From the start of this journey, I was invested in our twosome and I adored the way Vasilije tortured Oksana with his unique brand of foreplay, talk about a panty warmer.
The way our girl reeled him in and even surprised herself on how she got off on Vasilije’s rough bedroom antics.
I think for the first time Vasilije feels accepted and wanted for who he is, the way she just takes what he dishes out and then asks for more is such a big turn on for him, and also a first.
Obviously, there a lot more than sex going on here and even though this is not a romantic soppy read, Torrid implies so much emotion through what isn’t said and with Oksana’s beautifully haunting music that she pours herself into well, let’s just say sometimes the words are just not really needed, it just is what it is.
So With Mafia business going on behind the scenes, and secrets being kept, there is never a dull moment in this novel, it really does keep you on your toes.
So I found this a really easy read, Torrid ticked every one of my boxes and more.
The story flowed brilliantly keeping me the reader engrossed and invested,
It was so satisfying to see certain characters get their just desserts.
What was even more phenomenal was seeing these two find their own version of a HEA.
Checkmate!!!! the queen got her king.
I would like to say thank you so much to the author Nikki Sloane for generously providing me with an ARC of Torrid, this is my own personal opinion on this book.

If Nikki Sloane writes a book, I read it! No matter how dark and deprived it is. I was expecting this book to take the super dark and twisted path, or at least start our similar to how Sordid did. I can say, it did now. Not that it’s not good, because it’s great. It just didn’t have the super dark romance along with it I saw in Sordid. Now in this book we do get some pretty twisted stuff. Oksana and Vasilige are two very passionate people who have very dark pasts that don’t expect to find the light together! Their chemistry is spot on from their first encounter and it just had me wanting more and more as I read into the story.
Bottom line is this is a very deep and somewhat dark mafia book with all the good sex and chemistry we always see from Nikki Sloane! She never disappoints and i absolutely loved this book! I can’t wait to see where her writing takes her next
“I was pulled into his embrace , and my body sang a beautiful melody of ache .” – Oksana
This work is an absolute stunning and masterful work of all-consuming intertwined sexual and emotional intensity, the like… few… and I mean very few… authors can create with with such skill at word choice pacing and authentic characterization and interaction. The reader and lover of this art can immediately discern from the jump that this book is different … delightfully, darkly, erotically and temptingly so. This edition contained the first work in the series, “Sordid” which is an incredible value. For me, it is my first time reading this author and I was rapt from the beginning…It is that lovely recognition of sheer genius and knowing that the time spent reading will melt away in pure pleasure.
The worlds that Ms. Sloane creates are a combination of a dark criminal organized underworld and in “Sordid”, the world of academia. In Torrid, Oksana’s world of light comes from her ability to compose and play piano. The two brothers from each book are a study in contrasts. Luka from “Sordid” is serious, measured and controlled. His passion while beautiful in its art and exercised in control can burn unchecked and in one defining moment that was a loss of control, he unites his fate with a woman he has desired and wanted for years. He does not embrace the underworld life of crime in which his family is entrenched. Addison is literally “perfect” for him. He loves her “perfectionist tendencies and her lack of criminal taint.
Oh… but some of her best writing is in the development of the charismatic and evil spell binder, Vasilie the younger Serbian Markovic brother. The heir apparent to the Markovic crime family.
“Looking at him was the same as staring at the sun . He was scorching . Beautiful . Fascinating , but I couldn’t do it for too long or I’d risk permanent damage .” – Oksana
“He was violently beautiful.” – Oksana
“Should it have bothered me that he was the most attractive when he looked evil?” – Oksana
The way he speaks to us through his thoughts, emotions and actions has the reader intensely fascinated and feeling guilty even from falling in love with his devilish and dirty ways.
With Oksana the female protagonist, here again, Ms. Sloane creates a fascinating character with her own agenda from the rival Russian crime family. Much of the intrigue of the storyline comes from the driving agenda of this unwanted illegitimate daughter who has killed a man before her virginity was even taken. The oddly beautiful love story of Vasilie and Oksana adds layers of intensity and meaning to each character.
I cannot heap enough praise on this author and her unique skill with the hawt, hot, hoooot, oh so hot, driving, pulsing, breathing off the page erotic scenes. The words, exclamations, the pacing and descriptions move the reader. It is a rare gift. Her characters live for the reader in their mind long after the reading is done. Truly a value in pleasure just one click away!
