This is a gritty murder mystery with a good character lead; a story that is set in Texas.
It is fast-paced and told in the first-person narrative, which gives it the gritty downbeat feel. I did notice a couple of typos but it didn’t detract from the good writing style and tone.
The plot, though not original, had enough bones to keep interest…and talking of bones, that first scene was a great hook.
Overall, a worthy read for this genre.
Lies and manipulation and a promise.
I loved how engaging this book was it will draw you in and not let go. Trent was an awesome character so human and so well-written. I liked the author writing style and all the cool twists put into the piece. The author will keep the reader guessing and for me that was what made this mystery so entertaining but the depth of the characters is what I will remember the most about this piece. I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This book started off on a very strong note, however for me, it quickly became too far-fetched to be believable. I struggled to finish this one, having to put it down and come back to it more than once, but I continued on in the hopes that it would get better.
Sadly, I just had too many issues with this one to give it a higher rating. For one thing, the jumping from present day to events that happened when Trent was a teenager quickly became annoying. I understand what the author was trying to do, but sadly, it just didn’t work for me. I was also rather disappointed in how the author chose to end things (not to mention the budding relationship between Trent and Aria was really just weird and out of character for me).
This author does have a strong writing style however, so I still think this book will appeal to others more than it did to me. However, I doubt I will continue on with this particular series.

I was hooked on Blood Red Winter from the first page and found it hard to put down. I wanted to know who done-it and was unsuccessful in guessing among the usual suspects. It was an atmospheric book with an imperfect hero, (I liked this), and a selection of interesting other characters. I believe that other thriller readers will enjoy this moody tale from Texas.
Highly recommended.
This story has the most important element I need in a thriller/mystery and that is a highly unpredictable ending. I loved the way it twisted and turned so that the actual killer was not revealed until the last few pages. Trent is already in a bad place after the break up with his fiancee and tries to get away from his old life with two new jobs. Fate has other ideas, but the reader is left on the edge of their seat as the action unfolds, wondering who is targeting him and why? I couldn’t put this one down and ended up reading until the small hours of the morning. I really would like to read other books by this author.
The story is told across two time periods and the reader alternates between them. This takes a little getting used to, but helps the plot unravel. Trent is an unlucky man, and at times a foolish one in some off the things he does along the way to solve the murder. Overall Trent is a likable character and an average Joe drawn into a crime that he doesn’t have the skills to deal with. Some interesting twists along the way.
Great read! Excellent thriller. Several twists in this tale of how not to go on a walk. I’m not going to do a spoiler here, that would be so nasty. You need to read it for yourself. The character’s job finds him embroiled in a horrific find. Then his life is on the line.
