I was excited that Cinder is a cyborg living in New Beijing with her stepmother, stepsisters, and her android sidekick, Iko. I loved the world building and the fairytale retelling. Unfortunately, the characters seemed to fall short for me personally. It’s an easy read and decent enough, but I didn’t love it. Maybe Scarlet will save Cinder for me
** spoiler alert ** Excuse me, I stayed up til 12:45 am to complete this. You DO NOT end a book like that!
Me : *wants to cry until Cinder becomes queen*
So I figured this book out a quarter of the way through and I was pretty proud of myself because that does not come naturally to me. I also made a whole lot of connections with other characters in the series and now I have to wait until I go to the library again to get the next one. *scowls*
This book hooked me. It was so gripping, difficult to put down, and complicated. It was my type of read! 😉 (which is a good thing) Some of the content, ( I’ll talk about later ) however, was unnerving. Marissa Meyer has some expansive knowledge….. o.o Some of that futuristic stuff ( because it’s a Sic Fiction series ) was over the top in my brain. xD
The description ~ Yes. She did amazing! Probably a 3 + 1/2 in my rating for details. There was a lot of parts and metal and science stuff. xD Which I don’t always understand but Marissa Meyer helped me to get a better look at it! ( in fact I Did NOT like Cinder at first…. *grimaces* ) But the whole “cyborg” thing grew on me and I’m glad.
The romance ~ It wasn’t forced or gushy or cheesy. It was perfect for a retelling! I really appreciated how Marissa Meyer described it and how she allowed it to bloom in each one. She made Cinder to deny it and she felt so real. Kai was also gripping and she hinted at his attraction to Cinder every once in awhile by pointing out ( in detail ) that he didn’t look at other girls the same. >.< The content ~ Its very gory and full of science. Blood here and disease there. Yuck on my part but I pushed through. Also when it was talking about parts and things on her Cyborg half of the body I had to mentally ignore my sick stomach. It's was somewhat difficult in that area for me. *weak laugh* Also some "mind controlling" because that's what Lunar's do. The characters ~ Wow. Wow. Wow. Marissa Meyer, yes, thank you. I have been encouraged to write now as you have done and craft beautifully believable, feeling characters that burn with a reality so true. Cinder : Cyborg, Lunar, scarred, forgot, unloved, destined for greatness. *sniffles* Ummm... hello? I'm not the only one who wants to sob my heart out for her!! Thank. You. Also that last energy / fire / manipulating thing she did was amazing, especially because she didn't know what she was doing!! *claps* Kai : Oh, the first thing I noticed and appreciated about him was his diplomatic sarcasm. *applauds* He just knew how to say the right thing even though his little advisor guy didn't appreciate it. *glares* I did appreciate it. Second thing I noticed was he had a real face and a fake face. He picked which people ( by how much he cared for them ) got to see his real side. I'm glad Cinder met him of course. xD Pearl : I just don't have the words....... for you scum. Peony : So much love! *sobs* Why Peony?? WHY?? Ah that part was enough to rip your heart out. I did, however, notice that I didn't feel as broken hearted over her as I have for other characters... I think it's because she didn't have time to grow on me. I know Cinder's love for her... but I just, it didn't reach me completely. Adri : I don't know your backstory, but I certainly don't feel your pain. You've become bitter about it and dumped the blame on Cinder. And I despise you vehemently for it. Dr. Erland : I KNEW IT!! I knew it! I knew that he was Lunar! He was one of the pieces I fitted together and I was so proud of myself!! Levana : GO AWAY YOU STUPID VILLAIN AND LEAVE THIS POOR WORLD ALONE!! *screams rage into infinity* *nods* So yeah... that sums up all my feels.... for the most part. Mainly I cannot wait for the next book, which is good. xD
Marissa Meyer created such beautiful characters that, to this day, I still recommend the book to lovers of romance and dystopian novels—one of my absolute favorite book series.
I absolutely love this series. I love the combination of science fiction and fairy tale. I fell in love with the characters and the plot was complex and well crafted.
I thoyit was great and this is one book I could read again and again- I hardly ever do that.

Review:
This is the first book I’ve finished this year! I started another one but I had to put it on hold. I didn’t know what I wanted to read and seen many people post about this book so I’ve decided to give it at try. It’s definitely not what I would normally read but it was a good story non the less.
What is this book about:
This book is set somewhere in the future. There have been two more world wars and cyborgs and androids are a real thing now. They are hover treated as second class citizens.
Cinder is a cyborg, she lives with her stepmother and two stepsisters. You can totally see the Cinderella vibe hanging around there. Anyhow Cinder is a gifted mechanic. One morning at work the prince of the commonwealth (new Beijing) drops off an android for her to fix. They talked a bit and Cinder expected not to see him again. That’s not what happened though. A plague is spreading all over the world, taking lives left and right. Cyborgs are being drafted left and right in order to try and find a cure. Something Cinder really doesn’t want to happen, however certain events don’t give her much of a choice.
If that isn’t bad enough, the species that live on the moon, called lunar, are closing in on earth, well their evil queen is. Cyborgs, the plague, and a inevitable war? Things sure aren’t boring, that’s for sure.
What did I like about this book:
I liked the retelling of the Cinderella story. It gave it a nice twist but also kept allot of the same elements. It made the story quite predictable though. There where no surprises I didn’t see coming in this book.
I found the story interesting and I would definitely read the rest of the books to see how it all turns out but I didn’t love it. I didn’t find it an amazing story. It just isn’t a 100% my thing anymore. Overall it was an enjoyable story though.
Rating:
3 1/2 I liked it Stars
This book was amazing. You can’t read this one and be like this series is stupid. I should know. I am a reader and this is how I live.
I love the whole “Lunar Chronicles” series. This series always has a place in my heart.
One of the best series I’ve ever read. There are many who try to imitate the Cinder series but none of them succeed. I wish I could give it 6 stars.
It was amazing because it had lots of action and it was also really easy to read of all the books I read this is my favorite one!
My second time reading this, And I love it just as much as the first time.
Cinder is a retelling of sorts of Cinderella. In Cinder, She is a cyborg. Half human/Half Robot. She has a evil stepmom and 2 sisters. Cinder is a mechanic. Also pretty much a slave to her stepmom, as cyborgs don’t have any rights. Well I’ll stop there so anyone who hasn’t read it yet won’t get any spoilers.
