“Darkness isn’t one shade, sweetheart.”Three centuries ago, Molly Darling’s ancestors signed a contract in blood—daemon blood—to protect themselves from harm. On the eve she turns nineteen, Molly leaves for her birthday party against her parent’s wishes, sick of their warnings about her “betrothal to a demon.”Except that she’s very much betrothed, and he’s very much a demon—one who’s only agreed … who’s only agreed to the nuptials to use Molly’s ancient daemon powers. Brash, arrogant, and built like a Greek god, Tensley Knight keeps showing up to save Molly from otherworldly attacks, only to insult her a moment later.
As Molly learns more about the demon world, she realizes two things: that her family’s safety depends on a successful marriage, while any chance of freedom she’ll ever have calls for Tensley’s demise.
Yet sometimes Molly spots a tortured soul beyond those liquid grey eyes, and there’s no denying the way her skin tingles when Tensley touches it. In Vein of Love, safety requires sacrifice, foe becomes lover, and one must decide whether to kiss…or to kill.

This was an interesting start to the series and it was well written it’s a paranormal romance set in a world with humans and demons. Molly due to a three-hundred-year-old contract finds herself engaged to a high ranking demon incubus Called Tensley. Her unique status as a Daemon means until she’s marked and fully claimed by him her life is in constant danger from others of his kind.
So I did mostly enjoy this but Molly and Tensley did slip things a tad for me. Molly just seemed very naive and easily swayed she made many bad and stupid choices but yeh I get it her young age does play some part I just found her slightly annoying but still likeable and very easily breakable
Tensley well he was a bloody jerk Asshole but not always in a hot alpha sort of way more of an arrogant jerk selfish way he definitely blew hot and cold all the time. He also seemed to have a massive sense of superiority which also annoyed me and I didn’t think he was very fair to Molly either poor girl had no clue where she stood his mood being as changeable as the weather.
There was a lot of push and pull with this some action and danger I’m not yet feeling a major connection between these two but it’s still early days. I’m intrigued enough for now to continue I’m just hoping it’s not more of the same I’d like some actual progression with how these two relate to each other.

Oooooooh!! I’ve just been sucked into the Blackest Gold World and I don’t want to leave, I’m OBSESSED!! I won’t be satisfied until I’ve devoured every book in the series.
As a lover of all things PnR I’m kicking myself for not reading this sooner.
The world R Scarlett has created is fascinating, seductive and addictive.
Tensley is to die for, he’s dark, dangerous and delicious he intrigued me straight away. Molly was a really interesting girl, I really liked her. I loved all the back and forth between them, their chemistry was scorching hott once it got going, I’m really excited to see them getting closer in the next book.
There are some fantastic characters in this story that I’m dying to know more about, especially Illya…..I loved him.
This is a new to me author and after reading Filthy Gods I went looking for more! I didn’t expect pnr but holy moly, I was more than happy.
Tensley drives me insane!!! Gah, that man!! And then there’s Molly. Confused and wondering what the hell is going on. But feisty and not afraid to fight to keep those she loves safe.
There’s soooo much going on in this book, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! And I know I have three more books to read in this series!! Oh. My!!
After reading Filthy Gods when it released in 2018, I immediately made a note to read all of R. Scarlett’s books! And that’s what brought me to their Blackest Gold series, a paranormal romance that I couldn’t wait to start.
Overall, I did enjoy the story, but I sure did struggle with Molly and Tensley. Oh the frustration with these two was endless and that’s where the bulk of my rating lies. With this only being book 1, I can’t wait to see their character development throughout this series. Thankfully we get a little bit of towards the end and there’s hope after all for these two. I’m still a little nervous since trust is a huge issue for them, and I know they’ll both have a lot of things to work through.
I do have a lot of questions, but I’m going to hold off on them until I get through the rest of the books. I’m such a fan Scarlett’s writing, I’m so intrigued by the main characters and I’m just wanting to know more of their family history and what’s to come.
Definitely a decent foundation for this series, onto book 2!

Review:
I expected more from this book. The synopsis was interesting. So was the beginning. I really hoped for more.
The characters where all over the place. The back and forth wasn’t enjoyable anymore at some point. I wanted to see some grow.
Some points where glossed over that shouldn’t have been to make sense of the story. And other things where repeated to much.
For example, Molly was always timid, and naive and not much of a fighter. And suddenly the author said she learned to fight and she was good at it. But we never saw her practice. It came across as unbelievable.
For a first novel, R. Scarlett didn’t do a bad job. It was interesting enough to make me want to read the rest of the books to see where the story is going.

“Darkness isn’t all one shade, sweetheart.”
R. SCARLETT IS THE QUEEN OF PARANORMAL ROMANCE NOVELS. I am not kidding, this book pulled me in with the very first few lines, and did not let me go until I have finished it. And after that, I instantly wanted to continue Tensley and Molly’s story, I wanted to know what happens with them. Oh, and not just with them, I wanted to find out what happens with the other characters too, the author created so-so many amazing characters besides them, they absolutely made the story whole and more interesting, I loved almost all of them (Fallen, Illya and Beau ), and I always couldn’t wait for them to show up again and again. But that is enough for now, I’ll write more about them later. Vein of Love is totally captivating. So yes, the characters are absolutely awesome, the world is well built, the story is very well written, I love Rebecca’s style, the cover is totally eye-catching… Everything is just simply genious. Do we really need anything else?
“Demons don’t love, they destroy.”
Wow. This book is so unique, I think I have never read something like that. The story itself is very intense, something always happens, so we can be excited and the author keeps us interested for the whole story. The demon world is very complex, it is very well written, we can get to know a lot of things about it, but at the same time, not everything. In that way, it also stays a little bit mysterious.
The protagonists of Vein of Love are the greatests. There are some you’ll instantly love, some you’ll absolutely hate, and some you can not figure out. There are lots of characters in this novel, and it is so good in that way. I did not have a feeling that it was too much. It was perfect in that way, they were all needed.
I really do think that Molly is an excellent heroine, she is one of my favourites. At the begining, she is a little bit uncertain, but I can totally understand that, because who wouldn’t be uncertain in that situation? Because of that, she was more real for me. Later, when she learns some more about this world, she becomes more confident and brave, her character developes a lot.
Tensley… At first, Tensley is an arrogant, a bastard, he has some bad moments, but personally I think that it is also completely understandable. His life is about to change, of course he is not that happy. On the other hand, when they actually spend some time together and get to know each other… Oh Tensley! I adore him, I adore him so much.
Molly’s best friend, September, is a huge energy bomb, she does not afraid to say out loud what she thinks, she is a really badass character. She is also one of my biggest favourties, I hope that one day we can read about her a little bit more. Besides her, there is another girl, who easily became my favourtie one, and she is Lex. I think she is like September, but a little bit more energetic. She is wilder and more confident, but at the same time, she is very helpful and a really good friend.
Illya… Oh, Illya, Illya, Illya. This character is simply and easily adorable. I can not even tell how much I love him. As I have already mentioned, there are so many likeable ones, it is hard to even choose one out of them.
Beau… He does not have a big role in that book, but we can see him in some scenes and he is also mentioned. Probably, his situation is more interesting than anybody else’s, but you’ll understand what I am talking about if you give a chance to this series. By the way, his story is already published, it is When Sinners Kneel, and it is the first book in Blackest Gold World series. I recommend that you start with Blackest Gold, and then you continue with Beau’s story.
Fallen is a mystery with big letters. And probably that is why I am so interested in him. If you already have read a review written by me, you may know that for me, always the mysterious ones are the bests. He will also have his story (yeeeesss!!!), the title is Reign of the Cruel, and it will be the first book in High Court series. I’m super excited! 😉
For me, they are the my favourites from Vein of Love, besides them, there are so many more characters, but I won’t tell who are the “good ones” and who are the “bad ones”. 😉
“You’re going to destroy me, sweetheart.” Tensley muttered. “Unless I destroy you first.”
Taking everything into account, Vein of Love by R. Scarlett is one of the greatest novels I have read so far in 2018. I am so happy that I found it and started reading it, it easily became one of my biggest favourites. With six stars. With six huge stars.
I want to say only two more words:
READ.
IT.
Read this series a while back. It was my introduction to R. Scarlett and I immediately fell in love with her writing and characters.
A gem of an author!
Rated at 3.75 stars:
This was a great story and I will be reading the rest in the series over time. I enjoyed entering into this new and different world. Exploring new relationships and learning about these characters. I found the story very slow and it took me almost a week and a half to finish because of the overabundance of details. I felt bogged down by the at times. I get the need for details, but I really don’t need to know the color of every characters eyes, or what every characters is wearing, or every object in the room. That is my only “issue” with this story… oh that and the cliffhanger. I will need more. Well written and a different and unique story, I am excited to read more from this author.
When a book can get your mind thinking nonstop about what ifs, what just happened, and what will happen throughout the whole time reading and even while you take breaks from reading, then you know it’s a great book.
Vein Of Love is exactly that for me. It’s a paranormal romance novel that will keep you on your toes.
it has the perfect balance of heat, anger, danger, anxiety-inducing feelings and consequences.
The characters we get to meet have depth. Demons, humans, daemons and much more.
They grow a bit in this book and I loved seeing the changes they are going through as they faced every danger.
I really enjoyed reading this book, to the point of almost risking a reprimand at work for wanting to read it but the way the author wrote it makes you want to flip to the next page without stopping.
Though I am dying to talk about Molly and Tensley, I dont want to spoil it for anyone. Suffice to say these two characters are absolutely perfect in their element and I cant wait to read more.
The angst is pretty good in this…
and I loved it!
“What truly startled him was the feeling that wedged between his lungs and pounding heart. The feeling was a need for comfort, for affection that he’d never experienced.”
My first read by this Author and I’ve been binging on this series ever since. At first glance you never believe Tensley and Molly will make it past 5 minutes in the same room. Betrothed due to a contract centuries old, they are both flung together against their wishes and forced to align. The Author creates a mystical and enchanting, detailed backstory and literally a whole world to get lost in, and I was enchanted by the entire premise. While Tensley and Molly remain mostly aloof and unsure of each other throughout the whole book, by the end you were starting to fall right along with them. A perfect dose of suspense, twists, and an ending created to make you want to dive right into the next book, it’s a perfect escape from the norm.
“You’re going to destroy me, sweetheart,” Tensley muttered. “Unless I destroy you first.”

“Vein of Love” is so complex it is amazing!! The world is so interesting. I am already in Love with this storyline and I’m so in love with this couple! Oh my Gosh I absolutely love Tensley and Molly and that fact that their love isn’t easy. The push and pull between them is everything! The Demon and the Daemon. This paranormal world is like no other.
“Tensley Knight, her Demon fiancé, existed. And he’d most certainly arrived.”
Tensley is so freaking wonderful!! He is hard to love at first but once he starts to open up and we get to see more of who he really is you just fall in love with him!! He knows who he is and the role he is meant to play. What he doesn’t know is how to handle the feelings Molly brings out in him. Molly is so strong and such a badass! I love her!! She doesn’t take any crap and try’s her hardest to do what she thinks is best for her in the situation she is thrust into. They are both so amazing and together they will be perfect!! It takes time for them to like each other and to get to really know one another but all the build up is so worth it!!
“Darkness isn’t all one shade, sweetheart.”
This book was surprising and so intriguing. I highlighted so much in this book I can’t get enough!! R. Scarlett’s writing is so Fantastic. This book is so freaking good!! I can’t wait to start “Body Of The Crime” I NEED more of this couple so badly!!! This Series is a must read!!
P.S. I am obsessed with Tensley and Molly’s names!! They fit so well together I just love their names!! Tensley Knight and Molly Darling!!
P.P.S. I LOVE the meaning behind the title of this book! It is so wonderful!!
This was my first PNR read……and I really enjoyed it! Tensley & Molly had amazing chemistry together, no matter how hard they both tried to fight it. Such an interesting and complex world that I’m looking forward to reading more of!
4.5 Stars
Vein of Love has everything I enjoy in a PNR. Wow. Talk about being sucked in from the first chapter. I’m intrigued by this whole demon universe. Tensley who gains energy through intimacy, Molly with her golden eyes, the demon Illya and the soul eating Lex. I could go on.
Vein of Love was an entertaining and thrilling ride. I enjoyed Tensley and how he struggled against his own emotions, of surrendering to his feelings for Molly. Her character grew throughout the story. From a timid to strong. I can’t wait to read book 2. All I can say is that I’m hooked.
4.5 BadAssDirtyHealingStars
*5 MOLLY AND TENSLEY STARS*
HOLY CRAP!!! I loved this book. This is a New Adult Paranormal Romance. I found this book by chance when i was scrolling through my goodreads feed and I’m so glad I did.
“Darkness isn’t one shade, sweetheart.”
The main character is Molly who has an internship at a Musuem in Manhatten. She’s 19 and naive about things and I loved her! I connected with her from the very first page. I love how she wasn’t a natural fighter. She was scared and had to learn how to fight. That’s what made her so relatable to me. Don’t even get me started on Tensley! I’m in love with a demon. Haha
“I want to be the person who takes away the pain.”
I highly recommend this book and I’m starting book 2 immediately
This book! THIS BOOK…it destroyed me! I am hoping with all my hope that I don’t have to wait an entire year (or longer) for the next book to be released because I cannot wait. This book is one of only a few NA paranormal romance books that I have read, but after finishing it, I looked on Goodreads to see anything slightly similar to quench my need for more Tensley and Molly (mostly Tensley). Sadly, I came up short so I will be waiting eagerly for the next book to be released…and then probably devour it the first day!
So first things first, I am going to specify why I only rated this book 4 stars after I have just finished gushing about it above. It was the first 25% of the book. I had a really hard time grasping the ins and outs of this new world revolving around demons. It was very complicated and I felt like all the information was delivered very quickly, making it hard for me to comprehend it all. Some of the dialogue also felt a little unnatural and forced, but after the 25% mark, it blew me away! The story started to flow seamlessly together, weaving together a dynamic story that kept me captivated.
The characters in this book tore my heart out, frustrated me, made me laugh, engrossed me and pretty much made me have all the feels…I could not get enough! Molly, the main protagonist, was very relatable. I liked that she did not just lie down and be a damsel in distress when disaster struck. She trained to protect herself, friends and family. And Tensley! He was A-MAZ-ING! His inner battle with his feelings, culture and family was heart-breaking. Even though he was harsh and demanding, I turned to goo when he exposed his softer side. Tensley is one of those characters that you highly dislike at the beginning of the book, but by the end, you are absolutely in love and can’t get enough.
The secondary characters in this book really added another dynamic to the story that made it more complex and intricate. Molly’s best friend, September, was great! She was strong willed, spunky and hilarious. I constantly found myself smirking at her dialogue and loved how protective she was over Molly. However, the standout had to be Illya, Tensley’s best friend. Unlike September, we got to get a glimpse into his engrossing history that made me want to know more. Illya is the complete opposite of Tensley, but both are completely swoon worthy! I really want to see more of Illya in the future books.
The romance in this book had to be the thing that drew me in the most. It was very hot and cold, with Molly and Tensley constantly struggling with their feelings and attraction to one another. I continually kept rooting for them and by the end of the book, my heart was about to explode from happiness….and then fear. Then ending leaves on a bit of a cliff hanger, but I am eagerly anticipating the next book so I can experience how their relationship grows and evolves.
After finishing this book, I know that I am going to be experiencing a huge book hangover! I have the feeling this is going to be a good series to marathon read, too bad for me that I will have to wait for them to release one by one. Overall, I would recommend this book to any readers who like paranormal romance. I also think this is a good book for readers looking to get into the NA genera.
*voluntarily and honestly reviewed an ARC I received from IndieSagePR*
This is about a 3.5 rating.
Without giving away anything, I’ll be blunt: the world building was great and I liked the people in this except for the main character. She gave me the impression of being a young naive woman whose kindness only went as far as what she was familiar with, making the entire experience of reading this a real trip. I totally found Tensely endearing and actually made him the main start in this whole thing, having to deal with all these problems he never wanted and whatnot, though even he basically had the same thing to deal with, if not something else that didn’t exactly match up with what I was getting. Mol isn’t bad, she was just extremely difficult to like hearing or reading about whenever it was her POV. The beginning was amazing but still confusing at first because the information was slowly fed to me, which left me in the dark more than a few times before I got it, and then everything pretty much explained itself. I really liked the other characters in this, and though a few things felt illogical and took me out of the story, it still had some great moments that makes me think twice about not reading the next installment. It’s probably because of everything else that I’d read the second installment if it ever came out.
I’m warning you, the heroine’s a real handful, but she does learn her lesson, so it’s not like there’s anything wrong, it’s just hard. The author’s writing style, the plot and the other characters all make it worth checking out.
What an amazing read! I absolutely loved this great story. The suspense, the steam, the fear was just perfect! I couldn’t put it down. A great take on demons. I have to say, I loved the relationship between Molly and Tensley. There’s a lot of back and forth between them, but it’s very well written. I can’t wait to see what happens next! I can already feel that book 2 is going to answer a lot of questions. I absolutely recommend!!!!
Demons, reluctant lovers, betrayal, and an angsty hero… What more can one ask for?
Molly is a beautiful blond from the upper East side, whose family signed a blood contract 300 years ago betrothing her to a demon. If you think that’s heavy, then just listen to this… Molly isn’t your average 19 year old girl… She’s a daemon. Daemons are an entity that are very rare and highly coveted by demons. Their union makes them both extremely powerful and their offspring would be an epic hybrid. The thing is Molly just wants to be normal, she doesn’t want to marry a demon or birth his spawn. Too bad for her, Tensley Knight isn’t about to let “normal” fly.
Tensley Knight knew this day was coming. It’s always been his duty to marry the daemon girl and bring an heir into this world. Unfortunately he made a life for himself without her. He has to give up that life and deal with a more than reluctant fiancé. Not only does he have to protect her from other demons, but from a plethora of other predators in the supernatural world. The thing is as much of pain as she is, he wants her… Just a simple touch can flip his feelings for her on a dime…But he shouldn’t. He can’t feel for his fiancé… But why not?
This is my first book from R. Scarlett and I was not disappointed! Once again I have to admit that prior to this book and another recent read I had been on a paranormal romance hiatus. Well I think my hiatus has officially morphed into a relit obsession, because give me all the PARANORMAL. Vein of love is extremely well written and really draws you into the story of Molly and Tensley.
This story has just the right amount of angst to make it interesting without being irritating. The side characters are interesting and add to the story with their personalities. There is a cliff hanger, but it isn’t overly dramatic. I did feel like I spent most of this book DYING for the main couple to FINALLY just admit they like each other, but it eventually pays off and we get some hot naughty bits. I actually like the fact that you can’t tell who the love interests will be for a bit. Not sure if it was intentional or not, but it made it interesting for the will they won’t they. I loved the back story and why the betrothal was going on, I also loved that there were real reasons why Tensley didn’t want to get too close to Molly. My only complaint is JUST MARK HER already!! If not for safety reasons just because I know when it happens it’s going to be HOT! Come onnnnnnnnnnnnn, you’re a demon. Be a demon 😉 !
Great read, I highly recommend it for PNR lovers!
Betrothed to a demon before she was even born Molly is not your average teenager. Tensley is that demon and he’s plenty hot, dangerous and brooding. Plenty of action in this first book in the series and some seriously hot chemistry. I don’t want to spoil the story for others so won’t say too much except it’s a great NA PNR read and I really enjoyed it. I will definitely be checking out the other two books in the series.
They say that you should not judge a book by its cover but there are some exceptions and Vein of love is one of them. When you decide to read a book there are some things that make you chose it. In my case some of them are the blurb and the cover. This time the sexy cover of this book won and to my surprise I find a good reading full of suspense, drama, and thrilling and intriguing situations that had me at the edge. Cliff-hanger alert!
Vein of love is the first book of the Blackest Gold Series and is the debut book of R. Scarlett. The storyline is good. Prepare yourself to dive into the demons’ world. Here the villains will show us a different world full of action, intrigue and passion that make this book an entertaining read. Although paranormal genre is not what I usually read, I really enjoyed this book. The plot is unique, eloquent and provoking. Each sequence made me dive deep into the paranormal world created in this story. Who would say that demons were sexy?
A contract between two families from different worlds will dictate the future of the main characters. This contract was supposed to help both families. One will earn protection and the other one will get power. The contract will affect the destiny of a girl who is oblivious of what is expected from her and worst things are coming her way, disguised in a cocky demon who claims to be her fiancé. Afraid to be taken and consumed by this monster, she will try to escape her destiny.
Molly has always known she was different although her parents did everything to make her life normal. Her internship at an art museum and her beloved ones have given her a plentiful life until she was attacked and saved by a demon who will turn her world upside down.
“Darkness isn’t all one shade, sweetheart.”
Tensley Knight is the definition of loftiness and arrogance. He is a heartless demon that will not let any emotion consume him. He will avoid at any cost any emotion that could cloud his judgement. Not even his gorgeous fiancé. His priority is always his family pride.
“You’re going to destroy me, sweetheart. Unless I destroy you first.”
Molly and Tensley are quite intense. At the beginning of their “relationship” everything indicates that they don’t tolerate each other. The obligation to fulfil the contract made by their predecessors is something that stops them from giving up into the attraction that both are trying to hide. Lies and intrigues will add a bittersweet twit to this story.
“”There’s no hero here, only a villain. Don’t expect chivalry from me, because it’s dead”
Overall, Vein of Love has a refreshing plot.
