Born in the Highlands, Kuini thought his life was simple. You hunt and you fight, defending your towns against the raids of the Lowlanders and then raiding their lands in turn. His father was the Warriors’ Leader, and he wanted to be just like him.
Yet, Texcoco, the mighty Capital of the Lowlands, seemed incredibly beautiful, sparkling, its pyramids magnificent. A friendship with the Lowlander … Lowlander boy, the First Son of the Texcoco Emperor, seemed harmless in the beginning. They were just boys, and their clandestine meetings were always fun, providing great entertainment.
However, on the day Kuini agrees to finally enter the magnificent city, it would all change. He expected to get into trouble, but he could not foresee the extent of the trouble and, worst of all, he did not expect to uncover hidden secrets concerning his own family.

Loved the concept!
A bit of a slow beginning but once begun it picks up.
I enjoyed the research that made this a believable story. I cared about the characters and the paths they chose in a historical setting.
The Highlander (The Rise of The Aztecs Book 1) by Zoe Saadia
An author that produces results time and time again and The Highlander is no exception.
A magnificent and adventurous journey, the characters are dynamic and engaging, which makes the reader feel at home with this read. Beautifully written, with hints of the spiritual, souls and family …
Original and entertaining.
Interesting take on an ancient civilization.
Really didn’t like the book. I just found it dull.
Likeable characters but the long difficult names made it hard to keep things straight. Had to put too much effort into reading what was a simple and very predictable plot.
I, personally, could not get into this book. And I am an anthropology major, with an interest in this culture. I’d rate it a 3 star.
I do not recommend this book. The setting and plot are intriguing but the dialogue is stilted and underdeveloped.
Only read the first part, became predictable.
Very hard to follow.
I think the story would have been better had it been shorter. The plot seemed to drag.
Teen book
Interesting beginning, but the story just stops. Not enough interest to get the next in the series. Meh.
This time period is not one that I am interested in. It was also difficult to get into the book due to the writing style.
PREDICTABLE, A CHICK FLIK OF A PSEUDOHISTORICAL INTRODUCTORY NOVEL.
