Being young is all about the experiences: the first time you skip school, the first time you fall in love…the first time someone holds a gun to your head.
After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen year old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public … at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.
While Edie’s beginning to run wild, however, John’s just starting to settle down. After years of partying and dealing drugs with his older brother, he’s going straight—getting to class on time, and thinking about the future.
An unlikely bond grows between the two as John keeps Edie out of trouble and helps her broaden her horizons. But when he helps her out with another first—losing her virginity—their friendship gets complicated.
Meanwhile, Edie and John are pulled back into the dangerous world they narrowly escaped. They were lucky to survive the first time, but this time they have more to lose—each other.

I have been a longtime fan of Kylie Scott ever since first discovering her in 2013 when I came across this book called Lick! It quickly became one of my all-time favorite reads that I have read and reread about 10 times since! So let’s just say when she announced she was releasing a young adult romance I knew I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it!
Trust is an emotionally raw and realistic tale about a not so typical heroine named Edie. She was a seventeen-year-old who lived a relatively normal life until that one fateful night when she was held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store. Suddenly her world was turned upside down and she no longer understands the meaning of normal. Now let’s talk about John, the hero of our story…even if those in his life see him as anything but. Edie and him form an unlikely friendship that gives them confidence, strength and the courage to discover who they really are after that traumatic night they shared.
This book is unlike anything on the market in young adult today! Kylie Scott has written a story filled with heart, soul and an abundance of emotions that will captivate all readers who dare to give this incredible book a chance!
Those first couple of chapters where intense, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I really enjoyed Edie and John. The only thing I wish the story had was John’s POV. I would’ve loved to hear his side of everything.
I received a Netgalley copy for honest review.
Trust is one of those books that had me commenting out loud. At one point I was giggling the next I was shocked.
Edie and John go through something something terrible together. It changed both of their lives. I loved the strength that Edie has throughout the story and how she fights for John. I also like how John helps her to stay out of trouble and is there for her. They have an unbreakable bond from going through something nobody else can understand.
Pick up this amazing read today!
If you love your characters real and snarky, you’ll love Trust as much as I did.
Edie is a great heroine, vulnerable yet tough, whose character arc is superb.
John is the perfect hero for her.
Thoroughly enjoyed.
‘”You’re here?”
“Yeah.”
“Why?”
“Because this is where you are,” he said, as if it were obvious.’
This story was classified as YA, but I felt like that label is going to lose it some validity in exploring the story. This story was deep. So much was going through my head as I was reading, that I could barely even keep up with myself. On a more personal side, I am a teacher. While I teach middle school (ages 12-15), I still see so many adult problems cycling through their lives. Reading a book classified as YA, that they could get their hands on and see real, scary issues … this makes me overjoyed.
These two characters experienced something no person should live through. This event changed both of their lives, albeit in much different ways-one is pushed toward rebellion & one is pushed toward the straight & narrow. Seeing these dramatic changes in each character helped to shape the story into a resemblance of real-life.
What I loved about the story, besides the realness it presented, was each character’s personality. Both Edie & John are surrounded by several people, good and bad, to influence their lives. I enjoyed seeing these characters go through a bit of evolution as well, and would be more than intrigued to see more of these characters.
I think this is a great story. I feel like a story like this isn’t often explored in the age range of this novel, so it is unique in its reading. Although a *smidge* graphic at times, a great story for any YA crowd to experience for empathy & understanding how their actions have a snowball effect of reactions.
Loved this book. Another great success for Kylie Scott!
Wonderfully relatable. This is a story about discovering how you want to be, instead of who you want to be which is much more realistic. John and Edie have to make hard decisions about how they want to be perceived and how they want to live. The author does an excellent job of highlighting some hard truths about life, relationships, and perceptions that are often overlooked. I could identify with majority of the issues Edie and John faced and overcame, since it is scary similar to my husbands and my relationship in the early years (minus the store robbery, skateboarding, and race). This is my first read from this author, but definitely not my last.
It was a good book.
Trust was a good read and I liked it a lot. I loved that it was unpredictable. I enjoyed both the main and the side characters, especially Hang and Anders. I loved that the characters had flaws and that they didn’t let their flaws or what anyone thought of them define their worth. This was a story filled with drama, romance, great friends, second chances and unconditional love. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Two teenagers, John and Edie, are living very different lives yet are brought together during a robbery at a convenience store. John, a young man well versed in life, not all the good aspects of it, and Edie, a young and slightly “sad” straight “A” student who has left the private school for public. This story centers on their encounter and how they learn to cope and deal with the trauma that took place. They navigate through their new normal together on a path of healing. This was a different kind of story from the Author, Kylie Scott, but one I am truly glad to have read. I love Kyle’s writing and Trust is another one of those great reads. This book may be about teenager however, it deals with some intense and relevant issues facing so many people today such as: single parenting, bullying, body issues, self-love, loneliness and danger. But know it also contains love, support, intense friendships, romance and a dash of quick witted humor. Trust is a definite must read for those who love a story filled with engaging characters and a story line that will have you wanting to read more.
