I loved this book, and am shocked it didn’t get more buzz than it did. I’d call this more contemporary YA than sci-fi. In a world where each person gets one resurrection they can use or forfeit on their 18th birthday, Lake’s boyfriend and best friend both die in a car accident weeks before Lake turns 18. And having already promised her resurrection to her quadriplegic brother, she faces an impossible choice. As the chapters count down to decision day, Lake offers glimpses back to her relationship with her BF and BFF… and discovers secrets they were hiding from her.
The things I loved most about this story were Lake’s voice (this an an author to watch, folks), the stakes, and the original storyline. I grappled with the decision right along with Lake, and wondered what teenage me would have done in a similar predicament. I was left with some questions, and I’m not sure I agreed with the Lake’s final choice. But overall it was an extremely enjoyable read, and I can’t wait to read more of Chandler’s work!
At first I was unsure about this book. Mysteries don’t often go well with me. It did not seem like something I would normally read, but I picked it up anyway. And I am glad I did. This book was very touching and inspirational. I feel it touched me directly because I have friendship issues, and this book was mostly based around friendship and lovers. I love how everyone is connected in their own ways. Although you may think ties have been severed between you and another, they can always stay connected through thick and thin. And even though you think someone has betrayed you, it may not always be that way. And sometimes friends are the most important things you have in life.
This is Not The End
TRIGGER WARNING Talk of death and suicide
Imagine living in a world where you are given the option on your 18th birthday to resurrect someone. Just one person. Lake Devereaux lives in such a world. She is living life with her two best friends, one of which is also the love of her life, and nearing in on her 18th birthday. It’s all been planned out for years now. Her brother, who had an accident years before, is a quadriplegic and it has been decided that on the eve prior to her 18th birthday, Matt will “accidentally die” and she will be able to use her one resurrection wish on bringing him back, but the way it works, he will have full complete use of his body again. It’s been rough since the accident, but that will all get better once resurrection day comes. Until the universe takes charge and changes her plans all together. She and her two best friends are in a horrific car accident and she is the only life spared. She is now faced with an even bigger decision than she ever thought she would have to make. Who gets to come back? Will Lake be able to make the right decision and choose the one person who deserves this resurrection?
This was an audio book that I just happened to stumbled across, and I’m so glad I did! I really enjoyed this book! I can’t imagine being given the gift of bringing back someone, especially with only being 18 years old. This book had my wheels turning for sure. I definitely recommend this book! I rate this book
