4 star review of Breaking the Cowboy’s Rules (Wildhorse Ranch Brothers #1) by Leslie North
AUDIO REVIEW:
Both author Leslie North and narrator Rebecca Roberts are new to me.
I enjoyed the story of rancher Trevor Wild and Sabrina Hearthstone although it is not a long story. Trying to keep his family ranch afloat, Trevor wants to concentrate on breeding quarter horses but thanks to financial issues and a bad business deal he has no choice but to look elsewhere to increase the ranch’s finances.
Sabrina has been tasked with getting the ranch up to spec for glamping despite Trevor’s continued thwarting of her efforts; she has been hired to be the Adventure Co-ordinator at at the Wildhorse Ranch and is determined to do the job she has been hired for.
Despite his frustrations, Trevor finds himself attracted to Sabrina. The chemistry between Trevor and Sabrina burns brightly.
Although Trevor and his lists did get a tad frustrating at times, Sabrina’s determination and refusal to accept Trevor’s negativity was admirable. Will they stop arguing long enough to accept one another and realise their potential?
There were moments of humour that had me laughing. A lighthearted story with no angst or drama.
I enjoyed the story and Rebecca Roberts has a pleasant voice to listen when speaking as the female characters. However I do feel that her male voices let her down, the men all sounded like they were old, which was at odds with the storyline and for me this had a large impact on my listening enjoyment.

Breaking the Cowboy’s Rules was anther great read by Leslie North. Trevor is a ranch owner who is in serious financial trouble. He is looking for any way to save the ranch. Sabrina is a glamping guru who may be exactly what the ranch needs. She wants to renovate the ranch for glamping. They both try to fight the attraction they have for each other. I can’t wait to read more by Leslie North.
This was more lighthearted than I expected. I loved it! The characters are great, and the story sweet. A little humor and a cowboy thrown in with that, and how could you lose? I was given a free review copy of the audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I liked this story! Wonderful characters and a great storyline! Can’t wait to read more of this series!
Trevor needs help sprucing up the Ranch. Sabrina knows more than just decorating. When these two stubborn adults meet, sparks start to fly. Sabrina and Trevor refuse to admit t
how much they like each other, and I found myself hoping they would finally get together. It is a sweet romance, with nothing but their stubbornness getting in the way of love. It was a fun story.
Rebecca Roberts narrated this story. I really enjoyed the sass she brought out if Sabrina. Ms. Roberts seem to connect with Sabrina’s character and narrated Sabrina exactly as I would have imagined her. Ms. Roberts narrated Trevor well. Her ability to keep all the characters separate made the story easy to follow. It was a good listen.
Ah, how I enjoy sweet romances that tug at the heart strings but are just that – sweet romances, without any added drama, or something else. Every once in a while it is refreshing to read something like this, and Leslie North’s novel fulfilled that need for me.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed her other novels – those who are either part of ex-Seals, or include the Russian Mob – but this one is different – just sweet, but not plain in any way. Of course, there are multiple brothers involved, so that we can expect at least another book in the series, but other than that, the setting and tension is different from the last few Leslie North trilogies.
Not better, or worse, just refreshingly different. And did I mention that I thought it was sweet?
This book ended up being the perfect palate cleanser between thrillers and mysteries, and more suspenseful romance novels.
Trevor and Sabrina are hard working people who seem like they come from a completely different world, but have so much in common, that they are absolutely perfect for each other. And thankfully, the Author allows them to explore that possibility, without too much outside drama, or tension that often feels manufactured, just to add unnecessary suspense.
If you are looking for a quick read, that simply deals with two people falling in love, and is in my opinion meant to be, then you should read Breaking The Cowboy’s Rules.
I received a copy for free in return for an honest review
