“I love the sound of your maybes.”
Max is the sexy, but sweet, cop that goes through women at great speed and seems to want nothing serious with any of them. And the one he got serious with… that was because she reminded him of someone else, from his past. The one who got away. The one he looked up a few times and thought was married and happy somewhere else, away from him. Because he wouldn’t be enough for her and she might come to resent him for it.
Sarah is in Chicago for a couple of months and she is the one who got away. Since she left town, her life has been turned upside down by her ex, and she hasn’t found her happily ever after. She’s still a virgin, and she wants to get rid of her virginity so she can move forward. And Max is right there, but it’s not going to be that easy… they strike up a deal for a few dates, then for a few weeks and then for a few more. But then her heart gets in the way.
“I think my next breath depends on you,”
Friends to lovers never ever gets old. Slow-burning stories never get old either. And this is a particularly sweet one – from Max being absolutely clueless, to Sarah, the workaholic who is maybe too focused on her future to see the “right now”.
This book was sexy, very hot and so sweet. I laughed and some of it brought tears to my eyes. Other parts had me wanting to shake them – if only they stopped overthinking things… So infuriating!
These two people should have been together 8 years before. Life doesn’t always give you a second chance, but this time it did. Sometimes the right thing is not turning away because you think you won’t be perfect for that person, but being brave enough to embrace that.
I can’t help but mention the circle of friends, and Molly, Max’s sister, whose story is next in this series. Ms. Kelly always manages to write the best groups of friends –you can’t help but want to be a part of them yourself!
Four and a half stars.
The Wedding Date Bargain by Mira Lyn Kelly is the second in the Wedding Date series.
Sarah Cole and Max Brandt meet again when she’s temporarily in Chicago before completing a transfer to New York. They were friends eight years ago, but Max had pulled back from more because he hadn’t wanted to ruin a great friendship. But now that they’re back in the same town, they realize that attraction hasn’t gone away. Sarah’s convinced herself she knows the score, and for Max, well, if they’ve only got a couple months, they can enjoy that time without letting something as silly as feelings get in the way. Right?
Ms Kelly does a great job with this–Sarah and Max have a scrumptious chemistry. And their friendship is also warm and joyful and wonderful. I also LOVE their support–the circle of friends around them is solid and sweet, and their conversations, whether light-hearted teasing or deeply probing, are deeply satisfying. I very much enjoyed The Wedding Date Bargain, and can’t wait for the rest of the series!
‘The Wedding Date Bargain’ is my first Mira Lyn Kelly book, which I enjoyed reading. I will definitely be reading the first book ‘May the Best Man Win’ and if I am not mistaken (I am also hopeful that I am right) at the end of the book Mira Lyn Kelly gave little hints that there will be a next book in the series and I am really curious about that too because of the hero and heroine of that book. (I am not giving hints read ‘The Wedding Date Bargain’ and you will see in the epilogue )
Back to our story Sarah Cole and Max Brandt knew each other from college but didn’t see each other after graduation. Sarah is beautiful, strong, and smart. All her focused is on her career and after she gets the promotion she dreamt for a long time, she finds herself back in Chicago for two months. Even though she will be working during her time in Chicago, she considers this as a two months vacation. Ohh! Did I mention that she is also a twenty-eight years old virgin. Her time in Chicago gets interesting when she runs into her college crush Max after eight years. Since she is spending two months in Chicago and run into her college crush, she thinks it is best that she takes care of her virginity problem by the help of Max. Max is known as a lady’s man. He is sexy, charming, loyal and sweet. Chemistry between Sarah and Max is explosive. They are both attracted to each other. Back in college even though Max liked Sarah, he didn’t act on it because he thought he wasn’t good enough for Sarah. So when Sarah asks Max for help with her virginity, he rejects her. Because even after eight years apart, he still thinks he is not good enough for her and he is scared that Sarah needs more than sex from him, which he is not willing to offer because of his commitment issues. When they decide to start their two months long fling, both Sarah and Max is determined not to get their feelings in the way and ruin their friendship. Will they be able to keep their feelings in check or will their friendship end by the end of their fling? That is for you too find out
Even though last part was dragging and both Sarah and Max being so clueless was kind of annoying, beginning of the story was very attention-grabbing and fast. I also loved the secondary characters in the book. It was really cute to see how Max’s friends took Sarah in fast and the dynamics in the group and their friendship was fun and interesting. Even though, ‘The Wedding Date Bargain’ is the second book of the ‘Wedding Date’ series, it can be read as a stand-alone. Overall, I enjoyed the story and I will definitely read the other titles in the series.
