A broken promise reveals a terrifying legacy in this electrifying New York Times bestseller from the author of Untouchable.Seattle gallery owner Virginia Troy has spent years battling the demons that stem from her childhood time in a cult and the night a fire burned through the compound killing her mother. And now one of her artists has taken her own life, but not before sending Virginia a last … before sending Virginia a last picture…a painting that makes Virginia doubt everything about the so-called suicide—and her own past…
Like Virginia, PI Cabot Sutter was one of the children in the cult who survived that fire—and only he can help her now. As they struggle to unravel the clues in the picture, it becomes clear that someone thinks Virginia knows more than she does and that she must be stopped. Thrown into an inferno of desire and deception, Virginia and Cabot draw ever closer to the mystery of their shared memories—and the shocking fate of the one man who still wields the power to destroy everything they hold dear.

I love all her books
Gallery owner, Virginia Troy, has survived the worst nightmare as a child. She, along with many other children, survived a fire started by a cult leader in the compound they lived. Artist Hannah Brewster was also one of those children. Many thought her crazy but her craziness fueled her ability to paint a Visions series that represented the fire, both past and her visions of what she thought to be the cult leader had returned. When Hannah jumps off a cliff, Virginia is the last to see Hannah’s vision. Virginia hires a private investigative service to help investigate Hannah’s death. The investigation begins to unravel a chain of events that twist and turn. Just when I thought I had figured out who was responsible, something else threw me off. Loved it! Just enough suspense and romance to balance out to a great read.
I love all her books but this is one of her best.
I seldom award 4 or 5 stars for books in this genre but Krentz is a skilled professional. You may know, or think you know, who the bad guy is, but just as things seem to be wrapping up, you find interesting surprises. The romance and suspense are not earth-shattering but the leads are more than pleasant company
Promise Not To Tell was a great read. Cabot and Virginia have a history from when they were childen. They meet up again as adults when Virginia hires him to find out if the monster that terrorized them is still alive, something he is already working on. They discover many surprises, things aren’t always as they seem. I like that Anson Salinas was featured again in this book and I hope that after Jack’s story that maybe he can get his own…
Be prepared to not guess what the characters are up to or who is responsible for what. What a great suspense novel! The suspense kept going throughout the book. There were so many surprises I actually put the book down and started again the next day after a breather. Gallery owner Virginia Troy hires private investigator Cabot Sutter to look into what she suspects is a murder and not the suicide of an artist who has a long history with her. The artist was part of the cult Virginia’s mother belonged to and had become one of the artists at Virginia’s gallery. Cabot years ago also had ties to the cult and Virginia is slowly going to find out just what those ties mean to him. A short amount of adult sexual content that the descriptive scenes may be skipped over and you will still enjoy the book. I can’t wait for the next book!
JAK never fails to excite. Even when part of a series, each book stands alone. I bought this the day it came out. and had to force myself to read it slowly.
The biggest problem with JAK books is she can’t write them as fast we we read them and you will have to wait for the next one.
This is a “no regrets” purchase. Entertaining and a page turner.
I thoroughly enjoy all of Jayne Ann Krentz’s books, and this one was no exception.
I love all of her books. Great characters who are always interesting.
