When tragedy strikes his small band of werewolves who’d been roaming the countryside in search of a new home after River had been ousted as pack alpha of his old pack, River reluctantly concludes life in Cascade city might be safer. However, tensions within the pack soon escalate when they’re forced to all live in the apartment rented by Jax, the human lover of David, the pack’s second in … second in command. Knowing he needs money to buy better and bigger accommodation for his pack, River disappears for a few days and returns with a bag of gold chips he’s sniffed out from the Cascade River near his old pack grounds.
Coyote shifter Foster’s true mate has made his presence known, but when the coyote alpha finally shows himself, Foster is faced with a difficult decision. Stay with the werewolves and risk his mate’s unhappiness, or leave those he’s come to love as family?
Meanwhile, David continues to want to submit to Jax while being alpha to his beta mate, Brooks. Tension in the threesome grows as Jax’s reluctance to take the bite turns into flat-out refusal. Can their relationship survive this as well as Brooks pregnancy and David’s hyper-protectiveness of his werewolf mate?
When Josiah suggests the pack admit rogue werewolves, River’s desire to please his omega mate wars with his responsibilities to his pack as he questions past decisions and Josiah’s influence on them. Will history repeat itself, leading to the downfall of the newly-formed Cascade City Pack?

This is my first ever Rebecca James’ book and I enjoyed it a lot. As a huge fan of paranormal stories, the story of Cascade City pack caught me since the beginning. The plot is complex and the intrigue and all the angst situations involving all the wonderful characters kept me a the end of my seat the whole time. Adding romance and hot scenes to all the above rounded up a great reading.
This book continues from a previous series but it won’t confuse the reader too badly if you haven’t read it. I didn’t realize it at the time but I had not read the previous books. With that, the writing and story in this book will have you at the edge of your seat at times. River is an alpha that is simply trying to find a new place for his pack to live. This will not be easy nor will the pack remain unscathed.
The is the start of a whole new series thou you should probably read the River Wolf Pack first. River is an Alpha wolf shifter who takes his human mate and a group of other shifters to start a new pack. There is danger as some of their group dies when they are attacked. The story is well written, with angst, some steamy times and angst. Really enjoyed getting to know these new characters. Cannot wait to see what is in store for the rest of the pack.
I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
I read the Cascade City Pack all in a binge. It was so good. I like that it’s about every man in the pack, they each have their own story and throughout, they get highlighted to help the story keep flowing.
A New Beginning was a great start, I loved the idea of this little group creating a new pack and figuring out how to live much closer to humans than they had ever been. I love the relationship between Josiah and River, two men from different walks of life and meshing them together. I also love Jax, Brooks and David and their relationship was so new and tense. It was enjoyable to watch all of them build their lives and pack. The story was super hot, sexy, fast-paced. Every chapter was about a different man and there always seemed to be something happening. I love mpreg and shifters and the dynamic between alphas, betas and omegas. It was hot, super sexy and an enjoyable read. I definitely recommend it.
A New Beginning by Rebecca James is the first book in the Cascade City series. In the paranormal shifter romance, there is angst, steam (even some mmm interactions) and the fascinating world of pack dynamics. There are dangers uncovered in the book that seems like it will carry over into books that follow in the series that has my anticipation ramped up.
The story is well written, interesting characters and entertaining scenes. I really appreciate that I got to hear from multiple characters’ point of view and get a very full view of life in the new pack and how shifters/werewolves work in this universe. I can not wait for the next books and continue this saga.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this title and am reviewing voluntarily and honestly my own thoughts, opinion and reactions based on that copy.
