Running in five-inch stilettos is an art form Leaving your fiancé at the altar on live television is a disaster. Lexie Kowalsky thought she was ready to get married in front of millions of people, but at the last minute she fled the set of television’s hottest reality show, Gettin’ Hitched. Wearing a poofy white dress and a pair of five-inch sparkly shoes, Lexie hopped a float plane for Sandspit, … shoes, Lexie hopped a float plane for Sandspit, Canada. She figured no one would find her there. But she was wrong.
Sharing her flight was the Seattle Chinooks biggest star, Sean Knox. Lexie wasn’t just a reality-show runaway, she was his pain in the butt coach’s daughter. She was chaos and temptation and definitely off limits, but getting her luscious body out of that wedding gown, he couldn’t resist getting her in his bed for one amazing night.
Then a photo of Sean and Lexi breaks the internet—and suddenly they’re both swept up in a crazy plan to spin the whole story. But you can’t run from love—

What happens when you win the man of the moment on national television, only to discover you don’t want him?
This is the premise for the newest in the Chinooks hockey series and I LOVED IT!
Lexie Kowalsky, daughter of Chinooks coach John Kowalsky from Simply Irresistible, joins the popular television dating program Gettin’ Hitched in the hopes of promoting her new doggie clothing store. The problem is that Lexie is her father’s daughter and she plays to win. On the day of their glitzy wedding, she jumps ship and ends up on a floatplane to Sandspit, Canada with a handsome stranger.
Sean Knox, the Seattle Chinooks’ new star player, is on his way home to care for his hypochondriac mother. He can’t believe his alcohol-blurred eyes when a vision in white pops out of a car and makes a dash down the dock to the same plane, and he really can’t believe his bad luck when she turns out to be the coach’s daughter.
Chaos and temptation, two things Sean doesn’t need in his life right now, but he’s helpless to resist one blond bombshell in trouble.
Full of laugh-out-loud moments interspersed with real-life issues, Running in Heels is one of those books you’ll want to reread over and over again.
I give Running in Heels 5+ lovely kisses- A fun romance that is both heart-wrenching and entertaining!
Once I started reading “The Art of Running in Heels”, I couldn’t stop! I typically do not like reading books with a lot of curse words in them. However, I tried to overlook the words as much as I could because I wanted to see how the book ended! The romance was hot and the characters were great!!!
A Rachel Gibson book is a treat I look forward to. Just the right dash of humor in a deep, well-thought-out love story. The characters are unique and I love the Chinooks hockey series. This one is my favorite!
2.5 Stars – Who wrote this?!
I was so very disappointed in this story. I loved the Chinooks series so far and each individual story made me fall deeper in love with the characters and their stories.
This book though was missing all the things I loved in the previous books. There was no chemistry between the dull characters. The long inner monologues were tiresome and the characters rarely spent any time together. There was no base of relationship, no friendship, no nothing. The entire book was just lots of randomness until the very end when they suddenly loved each other. I didn’t feel it and there was no build up. I doubted they really fell in love. When even? Between his busy schedule and her constant worry for her business to flop there was no time for any feelings to grow. Though it didn’t seem there were any feelings to begin with. There was zero romance in this book and although Sean couldn’t stop thinking about her huge tits, there wasn’t much steam either.
The author is an excellent writer which she has shown with her previous works but maybe that’s exactly why I was used to so much better than this book. Which doesn’t mean that it was a bad story entirely, by no means. It had a good flow and was somewhat entertaining at parts but what good does it do when it still felt like going nowhere and missing essential content?
I don’t know what happened between the last book and this one because the author was an instant-buy for me so far, though now kinda lost its appeal.
The heroine was annoying and selfish. She blackmailed the hero into doing whatever she wanted and didn’t think twice about what she did. She only cared about her business and even disappointed her parents with how much of a fool she made out of herself in this TV show. She was just a huge pain in the ass. No wonder Sean thought she wasn’t real bright and got annoyed with the memos and lists she constantly sent to him. Why and at which part did he fell in love with her?! Did they ever even like each other?
And the anticipated blow up never came when I was actually so excited to read about John’s reaction to Sean being in a relationship with his daughter. Where’s the fun in that?!
When I started reading this book I was confused and even checked the blurb again because the beginning of the story led me to believe that it was about John Kowalsky whose story was already covered in a previous book.
I was so excited when I heard that a new book in this series was out and all the reviews made me pause which is one of the reasons why it took me so long to pick up this book. I would have never thought that I would be so disappointed in this book. It was hard enough to pull through as I thought about giving up a time or two. There were only a couple of chapters that reminded me of why I love this author’s work but the rest couldn’t keep up with it. There was just no love, no romance and no spark in this story; only a handful of scenes that made me laugh and at least something related to romance at the end.
The Story:
Sean’s mother was a hypochondriac and he had to take a break from his job to care for her once more as she believed she would die again.
Lexie thought it was a good idea to take part in a TV show to promote her business of dog clothes. This backfired when she won and ran away from her husband-to-be on their wedding day. That’s just one big mess that started and got even messier when she boarded a plane and stumbled across Sean, a hockey player that hid his profession from her due to her father being his coach and to prevent this mess to blow up in his face.
I absolutely loved everything about the characters, the storyline and the romance in this book. A hug tight to the chest kind of read, that leaves you with the warm fuzzier at the end.
Great story line with interesting characters and lots of humor.
I can’t get enough of Rachel Gibson’s books. Although some of the other characters are from her other books, you have no problem reading this. Bring on more!
I love Rachel Gibson! Always look forward to her books.
Main character to simplictic
I am a Rachel Gibson fan.
I think this is Rachel Gibson at her best. Funny. She writes good hockey action. And she cares about these characters. He last few books have had less of that. I will wait a year between books because i know i will have those moments of joy
I should say that I’m a huge Rachel Gibson fan- so be forewarned! I’ve enjoyed the Chinooks books and this second generation story doesn’t disappoint. I could wish that Lexie’s business was a bit less silly and that she was a bit less of a princess, but Sean, the hot slightly brooding goalie was a great successor to Rob Sutter, Ty Savage, Luc Martineau and the other Chinook heroes of past books. The plot is fun, the chemistry is good and the ending is HEA. What’s not to like?
If you love Rachel Gibson you will enjoy this book.
If you like Rachel Gibson, and I do, you won’t be disappointed.
Boring
I like Rachel Gibson’s books. Enjoy her characters!
I was excited about this book because I loved Georgie and John from Simply Irresistible, but I was very dissapointed. I found the book to be very childish and silly. The writing was not what I expected. Too bad the only good character was a troubled hockey player.
Ms. Gibson scores a victory with The Art of Running in Heels. Lexie and Sean make it easy not to take life to seriously. In a world of unnecessary reality shows, needless celebrity and heartbreaking current events, it’s tales like Running in Heels that make you sit back and take notice. A flighty bride on the run finds her prince in the most unexpected of places. The first time I read a Rachel Gibson novel I fell in love. Through kooky characters and over the top situations, she provides wisdom. In this case she shows the benefit of loving yourself, despite what others believe. A lesson we’re never to old to learn and share.
Lexie Kowalsky had a plan, get on the show, compete for the bachelor’s heart, and use her newfound notoriety to jump start her new business… which worked perfectly until it came time to say “I do”! The idea of spending the rest of her life with a man she barely knew just didn’t sit well with her, sure they had a few fun dates while on the show, but the man just didn’t make her heart skip a beat, and if she was getting married she at least wanted true love. So she did the only thing she could think of, and ran, in her wedding garb and all… and took the other vacant seat on her friend’s plane headed to the middle of nowhere. Little did she know this little trip held the promise of everything she was looking for… and so much more!
The moment Sean Knox eyes land on the buxom bride running down the dock and headed to the same plane he was on he knew one thing… trouble was about to hit. He was well aware of who the runaway bride was, and he really wanted no part in her drama, but little by little he found himself being pulled right into the middle of it… and he knew it wasn’t going to sit well with his coach, and her father! But somewhere along the way taking part her drama began to lose it’s importance and something else started to take it’s place… feelings he never knew were possible!
The Art Of Running In Heels is a laugh-out-loud feel good romance read that is sure to charm it’s way into readers hearts and leave them brimming with joy! Lexie and Sean’s lives become intertwined in kind of an unconventional way, but once that first little link is in place, they just can’t seem to walk away from one another… it’s a match made in literary heaven. Neither were really in the market for love, but love chose to find them anyhow, and boy did it make for a thoroughly enjoying read, these two had me giggling and swooning the whole way through!! I am a sucker for a well written sports romance and I have to say this one checked off all my must have’s and left me aching for more, I really hope Ms. Gibson returns with more about this amazing characters! Highly recommend this one, it’s a fun little read that is sure to leave your heart happy!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
