Alex Tinsdill never thought a simple DNA test would lead to a $250 million inheritance and Cove Point Manor, a massive estate built during the Gilded Age on the Gold Coast of Long Island, New York.Alex’s inheritance doesn’t come without a cost however, as two greedy relatives soon show up, determined to separate Alex from his new found riches.Cove Point Manor has a dark past, and a sinister … and a sinister secret which is about to be revealed!
Bloodlines: Cove Point Manor is a fast paced read that mixes the supernatural with just the right amount of dark humor.

I liked this one! Never having read anything by this particular author I had no expectations but was pleasantly entertained by Bloodlines. When an ordinary man unexpectedly comes into an extravagant inheritance, he often falls prey to the greedy relatives or in this case, friends. The characters were believable, the hero, Alex, has his good (amazingly patient and understanding) and bad points (how fast can he get rid of Connie and her conniving mother, Brenda) and his ‘friends’ certainly had their bad points (greed, murderous intentions, theft, self-centered–need I list more??) I enjoy haunted house stories and this was no disappointment–loved that Great-great Grandma was looking out for her kin! And then there is Maybelline, the vintage Caddie–love it! There is a good blending of humor with the story that adds interest, a little mystery, and of course, a sweet romance too. I’ll be looking for more of this author’s books to read.
The narrator, Bill Nevitt, does a great job giving voice to the characters and their story, making for an enjoyable listening experience. I listened to a complimentary copy of the audio version of the book and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
This is an enjoyable story of an unexpected inheritance, new found romance, greedy hangers-on and a ghostly protector. It is an entertaining story with a bit of the supernatural mixed in and with characters you immediately like and others that you take an instant dislike to. Brenda and Connie are both self-centred, money-grabbing, obnoxious characters that the narrator of the audiobook portrays perfectly. The voices he used suited their personalities to a tee and really brought out how dislikable and annoying these characters were. I liked the sweet development of Alex and Maggie’s relationship and the protectiveness of Rebecca Farnsworth’s ghost. This story had humour, mystery and romance, and excellent narration that brings the story to life.
This book was very entertaining. It wasn’t ultra suspenseful or mysterious but had me stitches from laughter. Alex an everyday guy with a decent job inherits a mansion with a dark past. Two women, unrelated to him, yet are attached to him track him down when he leaves town to check out his inheritance. That’s where the humor comes in. Everything that could happen to those two women does and more.
No one is ever alone in the mansion. While there he meets a young lady whom has an interest in the grounds as her family has attended to the place for generations. Alex and the woman grow fond of each other becoming pretty good friends. The whole time the two woman who have attached themselves to Alex won’t let up as they are expecting he will send some of his huge windfall their way.
I can’t give spoilers but this story is great!
Bloodlines: Cove Point Manor was a good read by William B. Taylor. Alex Tinsdill took a DNA test that led to him inheriting $250 million and Cove Point Manor. Which is a massive estate that was built on Long Island, New York during the Gilded Age. Two greedy relatives show up and are determined to take Alex’s money. But there is a dark past and a sinister secret that will be revealed. I enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read more by the author.
cosy-mystery, romance, ghosts, happy-ending, surprise-inheritance, greed
Let me get my complaints out of the way first: this is a book of FICTION and should not be held to legalities, and I would like to know what fool decided that it should be included under horror.
Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, let me begin to praise this very interesting book. There is no problem knowing the good guys from the awful ones. An ordinary guy from Toronto finds out that he is the inheritor of a fabulous old mansion on Long Island, New York along with a sizeable amount of money. He goes there intending to stay a few weeks to try to figure out what comes next, but certainly wasn’t expecting to be followed by a pair of greedy leeches. The ghost of his GGgrandmother who died in the house takes exception to these women and really stirs things up!
I won the audio and firmly believe that it is the audio performance of Bill Nevitt that made the real difference in enjoyment!
