Hotel clerk Abby Medford has always enjoyed the quiet solitude of the night shift. The long, boring hours allow her time to study her law books. But when bad-boy-rocker Lucas Ford checks into the penthouse suite one night and demands Abby personally deliver his room service request, her formerly quiet nights are quickly filled with Lucas’s erotic games. But as Abby soon learns, if she thinks she … thinks she can indulge her innermost desires with Lucas without giving him her heart, she’s dead wrong.

Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance.

I really wanted to like this rockstar romance, but in all honesty, I didn’t find much romance or much to like about the characters. When Abby meets Lucas, she’s snarky and quick to put him in his place, and I thought that she would be a character I could enjoy reading about. However, it doesn’t take long before she starts coming across as more of a doormat than anything else and when her past issues are revealed, I found it hard to believe she would have so readily accepted Lucas’ offer. Instead of romance, I found a girl who is face to face with her teenage crush and rockstar used to getting his way and willing to take full advantage of a situation.
To sum it up, the more I read, the more I felt like I was reading a Pretty Woman knock-off without the chemistry or romance. In addition to that, there’s the fact that the book went on for some time after the week was over, so by the time this pair did see each other again to get their happy ending, it was just too little, too late. I will add that the conclusion did have the potential for romance if it hadn’t taken so long to get there, but that was blown by Lucas’ comment about the many other women he’s had while they were apart, which wouldn’t have been nearly as bad if Abby hadn’t been naked and in his arms at the time. Overall, I’d have to say that yes, the steamy scenes were quite vivid, but the story was a disappointment.

Lauren Rowe … wow just wow
Like I don’t even know what to say right now! It’s 3:06 A.M. and I am in for a major book hangover! I had my ass-kicked by this book. I mean Abby and Lucas from their first meet-cute were off the charts! The chemistry was insane! I loved absolutely LOVED abby, quirks and all. I mean she was kick-ass! And Lucas HELLLLOOO that tortured loving soul was pouring out of the pages, I mean come on!

I was so excited to read this book because I’ve heard such great things about the “Misadventures” series and I love a good rock star romance read, so I was thinking this book was perfect for me. I’m sorry to say it didn’t turn out that way for me. I liked the beginning of the book until Danica started showing her true self. I hated how Abby took the insults from Danika like they were nothing and just brushed them off and even agreed with her to a point. Then there was the generous offer she was willing to give to Danica to help her out with her mother. To say I disliked Danica is an understatement. I enjoyed the back and forth banter between Lucas and Abby. There was definitely a lot of steam to this story, so it does not disappoint if you are looking for an erotic read. The title of Lucas’s songs were perfect. I couldn’t believe what Lucas, his friend and the friend’s girlfriend agreed to do, but hey when it comes to this story to each his or her own. However, I expected this story to have more of a realistic feel to it and I didn’t get it. It was very over the top and unbelievable and I’m not knocking it; it just wasn’t for me. Even though it wasn’t a story for me, its the perfect book for readers who love a good over the top rock star romance read.
I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did. This was a lusty, romantic, sexy, quick read with characters I liked and would want to know more about.
I received an ARC for my honest opinion.
Misadventures on the Night Shift is the first book of this series I have read, and I truly loved the novel. This book is hot and steamy from beginning to end. The author puts a different twist on girls meets boy by creating a rules-following female who stands up to her all-time, sexy music star idol. Tension is added to the story with the development between the reserved Abby and her sex-driven best friend Danica. Rowe has written a piece that pits dreams against expectation. Both of her main characters, Abby and Lucas, must decide what they want in life. Their role-playing makes for hot sexy scenes, and they must decide if/when it will end. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy sexy romance.
