The Poacher’s Daughter is an extraordinary story of betrayal and redemption, set within an uncompromising landscape of raw brutality and unimaginable beauty. It is a novel you won’t soon forget. In 1885 young Rose Edwards is widowed by Montana vigilantes who hang her husband for an alleged theft, then burn her Yellowstone Valley cabin to the ground as a warning for her and others of her kind to … of her kind to quit the territory. Penniless and illiterate, yet fiercely independent, Rose begins a two-year odyssey to revisit the land of her childhood, a land she once traveled with her father, an itinerant robe trader among the Assiniboines and Blackfeet. But the old ways of the hunter and trapper are disappearing as Europeans flood the ranges with vast herds of cattle.
With an aging roan gelding named Albert as her closest friend, Rose becomes a reluctant hero of an indigenous population, both native and white, as she stubbornly pushes back against the invading aristocracy.

Liked the book but not the end as it leaves you hanging big time. Surely the he author intends on a sequel, if not shame on him for ending the book with that way.
An unusual story well written by an author who has knowledge and skills. Enjoyed it. I think you will too.
Very well written and researched. The author took me back in time and the Rose character lured me to keep reading. A surprise ending was clever.
Unusual plot. Ended in such a way that a sequel has to be coming
Good easy book to read. Plot moved along at a good pace.
This is a great book. Very true to life. I was able to visualize every part of it from the great writing. I highly recommend it.
Zimmer is a totally talented writer. Accurate in his depiction of historical events, the knowledge of an obvious horseman, super character development, arrives periodically at forks in the road of plot and offers several options for proceeding. Minimal “deus ex machina”; fantastic end…hopefully for follow-on books in a series.
This was a okay story. Rose makes a career of making stupid, dangerous decisions. Even after rustlers are being hanged all over the territory, she decides to sign on to help take a stolen herd of horses to Canada. Rose has a reputation for being a hard, and dangerous woman, but it is just a reputation.
Lots of typos in book. Don’t think I will read anything else by Michael Zimmer.
Well written and makes you want to keep reading.
