Zeus has punished his son Apollo–god of the sun, music, archery, poetry, and more–by casting him down to earth in the form of a gawky, acne-covered sixteen-year-old mortal named Lester. The only way Apollo can reclaim his rightful place on Mount Olympus is by restoring several Oracles that have gone dark. What is affecting the Oracles, and how can Apollo/Lester do anything about them without … his powers? After experiencing a series of dangerous–and frankly, humiliating–trials at Camp Half-Blood, Lester must now leave the relative safety of the demigod training ground and embark on a hair-raising journey across North America. Fortunately, what he lacks in godly graces he’s gaining in new friendships–with heroes who will be very familiar to fans of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus series. Come along for what promises to be a harrowing, hilarious, and haiku-filled ride. . . .

i loved it so much! It kept me up all night and when it ended, I went to my school library and got the next one! Now Im just waiting for book five that is coming in fall this year. Im excited!
apollo/lester is starting to realize the ups and downs of being mortal, meets some new people, has a great story line
Who would have known that Lester, I mean Apollo, could start to be less selfish. This book took you on a rollercoaster of Apollo’s past while he had to deal with his present situation. Apollo started to learn why some of his past actions were starting to haunt him now. It was nice to see Apollo accept some of his consequences and try to make his past discretion to fix issues with his children.
I absolutely love Rick Riordan’s Work. His characters have such witty interactions that I feel as though my sense of humor can be fully seen and understood throughout his books.
Again the story is told from a no-longer-a-god Apollo’s point of view – who has a flawed memory yet entertaining voice. Each chapter starts with a haiku describing what’s to come without giving the story away. Apollo (or Lester Papadopoulos as his mortal driver’s licence proclaims) is still on his quest to find all the lost ancient oracles in his pursuit to become immortal again.
Though Apollo is charming in his own way, having Leo and Calypso as his companions made me enjoy the book more. Probably because I’ve liked Leo since we met him in the Heroes of Olympus series. (I’d advise you to read the previous series before starting this one.)
Because the story is fast-paced and monsters from myth keep popping up in unexpected places, the story kept me guessing and was hard to put down.
My favourite part of the book is where Apollo faces the Oracle of this part of the quest. I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t read it, but it shows not only how setting can be a character all on its own but also how characters can change and grow in unexpected ways. It’s really well done.
I’ll admit that the evil emperor in this book had me gagging. His brutality knows no bounds. More than once I had to take a break from the book because of his cruelty towards animals. I know this makes him an excellent antagonist as he is not just bad for the sake of being bad, but he thinks he has a higher purpose while making the reader dislike him enough to perhaps set him on fire (or whatever your violence of choice).
For lovers of fantasy, myth and YA/MG fiction, I’ll definitely recommend this.
I think this book is entertaining. If you like action and fantasy, I would recommend Rick Riorden. His books are amazing and I love the Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, Magnus Chase and Trials of Apollo.
The Dark Prophecy sees the author repeating the same mistakes that irked me from The Hidden Oracle (Book 1)! Too much off-handed joking and irrelevant (in my opinion) commentaries regarding previous love interests by the main character – Apollo – which honestly added nothing to the overall story (in my opinion). Inwould never have guessed this book was written by Rick Riordan. Disappointing!
I love Rick Riordan books and have enjoyed many of them…but I just can’t seem to enjoy the Apollo series. I’m not sure why…
It was a great book. Couldnt put it down
Good reading with pre-sleep overs. And power goes out.
I don’t have words to say how much I liked this book. All I can say is that you won’t be able to put it down, you’ll stay up all night reading it.
The Apollo series is not as good as either Percy Jackson or Magnus Chase, but fans of Rick Riordon will love it.
This Book opens with Apollo in the mortal disguise as Lester who suffers from acne and with his help from his companions from camp half blood he bound to have a really bad day… This is the Second one in the series his girlfriend Meg is the daughter of former Roman Emperor …. the beginning takes place after events in the first book ….
This book is worth the read just for the humorous references to famous musicians.
Definite read! But then, so are all of the Percy Jackson-Olympians-Trials books.
No a big fantasy reader but loved it supringly
I’m biased, I love Rick Riordan but this is AMAZING!
I think this book is wonderful because it’s very humorous and action packed and very interesting. I approve this book so much, when I read this book it makes me very optimistic.
its amazing i love the percy jackson seires the heros of olympus and the trails of apollo
Entire Percy Jackson series is good.
At first it was a bit difficult to follow, so I went back to the beginning and tried again. I found it a great book to lose oneself in; I’m a middle school drama teacher and I look for books that can come alive in my brain. This one fills the bill quite nicely. Looking forward to getting and reading the sequel in my Nook!
