Irene Hannon has done it again with Dangerous Illusions. A fast-paced, edge-of-the-seat, stay up late to finish story! I love this author’s writing style and am excited to see the start of a new series. Her suspense novels make me feel what the characters are experiencing. I appreciate that the story is the focus and not the romance. I thought I had things figured out, but there was a late-in-the story plot twist I didn’t see coming until it was right there! Phenomenal story; it was also great to see some characters from previous novels showing up, kind of like seeing old friends!
I highly recommend Irene Hannon’s inspirational suspense books!
Kept me guessing about the villain’s identity until all the clues were in place. Suspense combined with romantic attraction made for a riveting novel!
First book in the Code of Honor Series. This is Trish and Colin’s story. Irene Hannon is superb at writing Romantic Suspense. I very much enjoyed this book and I can highly recommend it to you. Just a warning however, once you read this one you will want the whole series.
Great suspense novel. The characters were so real. Almost impossible to put down.
As always with her books, I was engaged from the very beginning. Wonderful characters who were still being healed and transformed by God’s grace. Not able to predict the twists and turns but … loved the happy ending. I always love the St. Louis settings she uses in her books too.
I have been an Irene Hannon fan since the beginning and her writing just gets better and better. She knows how to spin romantic suspense with balance and keeps the reader engaged. No matter what genre she’s writing she has a gift for helping the reader empathize with the people in the books and want to walk through the journey with them. This book is the first in her “Code of Honor” series and well worth the cost. I have purchased book 2 and am waiting with anticipation for book 3.
Trish has had a lot of tragedy in her life recently and with the unexpected death of her mother, how much more can she handle? Colin has decided he doesn’t want his life complicated by love so other than his two childhood friends he keeps his relationships on the surface, then he’s assigned to Trish’s case. With the Russian mafia and a killer on the loose can he keep Trish safe without crossing over the boundaries he set for himself?
With heart-pounding suspense and chemistry to spare this is a great read from start to finish.
I wasn’t much of a reader, before I started reading books by Irene Hannon, Terri Blackstock and Dee Henderson. However, once I started reading books authored by these women, I found it enjoyable entertaining and something I could do anytime and anywhere. So much of the TV entertainment these days have negativity and immoral content, I find I don’t care to watch the television shows any more. I like who-done-it shows. What ever happened to shows that were like that like, Rockford Files, Murder She Wrote, and Quincy, but didn’t have immorality included. I just think this country has enough of that to deal with to try and get away from it in the TV world. Some of these shows and series are shown at times when children are still awake and want to to watch a mystery. I just appreciate authors who have been gifted to write mystery and suspense, have chosen to use their gift and write it without using offensive language or immoral conduct. I know I don’t speak for everyone, but I look back on my child hood and a lot has changed in the last several years. I strongly believe media has contributed to those changes and not for the good.
I kept me guessing
I’m a huge fan of Irene Hannon’s books and this newest installment of romantic suspense definitely goes above and beyond the already high standard of quality writing the author is known for. It’s a fast-paced, action-packed, adrenaline-pumped, and mystery-infused edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting ride that you won’t be able to put down!
Ms Hannon’s writing flows smoothly and naturally. The villain is introduced right away (as she’s known to do in her books) but there is so much more to the villain’s story than meets the eye. And that backstory slowly winds around the main plot until you’re left gasping at the conclusion of the suspense and mystery. The author’s villains have more depth and layers than just flat, evil faces with names, which makes the story much more intriguing.
Colin is a great hero. He’s a St. Louis detective – dedicated, hard-working, thorough, highly competent and intelligent, loyal, and compassionate though he came from a broken home and background.
Trish is a loving, compassionate, and dedicated art teacher who has been pummeled by tragedy after tragedy for the past two years and now must find out how to manage the charitable foundation her parents left behind.
Enter Trish’s parents’ accountant Matt and things start to take twists and turns to shape Colin and Trish’s world into a strange likeness of the Twilight Zone.
Colin and Trish are both likable characters, though I connected more with Colin than with Trish. Trish seemed a bit two-dimensional and their romance was less developed than I would have liked. However, the plot was so detailed and engaging that I’m happy to overlook these minor anomalies in this book.
It was also nice to see some familiar faces in this book from Ms. Hannon’s previous novels. I did a double-take a couple of times to make sure I remembered these past characters correctly (since this book is the first in a new series and not a sequel) and was immensely pleased that I did. Did Ms. Hannon always bring some noteworthy characters from previous, unrelated series into her new books and I didn’t notice until now? How fun!
I can’t wait for the second book in the series to release next year!
I received a review copy of the book from Revell via NetGalley. I was not required to write a favorable review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Very good. I usually enjoy books in this series. Only complaint is the epilogue…overdrawn, trying-to-be romantic ending. I’m sure many women like it this way but really turns men off.
Irene Hannon love the series books great reads.
Irene Hannon is in my top 5 authors.
I’ve been reading novels by Irene Hannon for a number of years and consider myself an avid follower. Although she has written in a few different genres, it is Irene Hanson’s penchant for writing suspense novels that will keep the reader guessing until the final pages. Oh, and there is always a hunky hero to be found.
In Dangerous Illusions, the first in the Code of Valor series, Detective Colin Flynn works to solve a case before more people die. Trish Bailey, is front and center of the case, the accused in the recent death of her invalid mother. Having worked to clear her name, Detective Flynn begins to pursue his attraction to the beautiful Trish Bailey, albeit with careful caution as she grieves the death of her mother.
Except, whoever wanted Trish Bailey’s mother dead, isn’t done and the Detective must put his growing feelings on hold while he pursues who killed Trish Bailey’s mother and why was the killer now after the woman he has begun to care about.
Twists and turns; unexpected surprises keep the reader entranced until the rather interesting turn at the end. You will never guess who is after Trish and why.
A truly enjoyable read, looking forward to the next in the series.
An intricately woven romantic suspense novel!
I absolutely love both of the main characters! They are incredibly well developed. The way that their back grounds are presented over time is fantastic!
The plot of the story had me purely guessing for most of the book. I couldn’t figure out the motive behind the things that were happening to Trish. She was so burdened down by everything that had been going on in her life that I just wanted to hug her. I was definitely rooting for Colin and the rest of the police to figure it out and catch the bad guys.
I received a free copy of the book from the publisher. I have chosen to write this review to express my personal opinion.
