This book tells the story of Flame and Maddie. The two previous books in the series were pretty intense and my heart was in my mouth before I even started this book as I wasn’t sure if I could continue to put myself through the emotional ringer.
I was not disappointed, whilst this book focuses more on Flame’s past it was equally as dark and traumatic as the previous books in this series. Flame has always been portrayed as a bit of a psycho along with his two ‘brothers’; we are given in depth detail of the atrocities Flame faced on a daily basis as a little boy. My stomach was in knots as I read this harrowing tale.
Once again Tillie has delivered a book that packs an emotional punch, rips your heart apart and doesn’t let up even for a minute. There are some scenes in the book which are not for the faint hearted, however, if you have got this far in the series you will have some idea of what you can expect.
Loving the series and really glad I gave it a chance but definitely for over 18s with a broad mind.
I want to be property of Flame!
What a book, this was just amazing. I was addicted from the very start. These 2 characters have broke me. What they have both been through is crazy and one should ever have to go through it never mind 2 of them. I have been dying to know what the story is with Flame. He is a character that has stood out from the very first book. I knew his character had dealt with something bad but I never thought it was had had as it was. My heart broke for him throughout. Seeing this big strong guy tell his story had me in tears. Seeing him so vulnerable was hard to read at times I just wanted to make things better and protect him.
Maddie wow this girls had been through just had much. She is one of The Curses sisters of Eve from The Order cult. She is the youngest and has been put through so much. She is very shy and timid. She doesn’t like to be around many people so being in the MC was a challenge in itself and then having so many men around was another thing she had to get over. But the one man she could be around was Flame this big scary guy was her protector he never left her he needed to know where she was at all times and Maddie needed this cause he was the only person that made her feel save. She didn’t know what it was but he made her feel better and she never thought she would feel that way again.
Flame and Maddie’s story is so good but so sad. They have been through similar things and understand each other so much. Even though Maddie is a shy girl she really grow in this book. This timid girl got so strong the way she dealt with her own stuff and then helped Flame was brilliant. Even when she was scared to death at times she still pushed herself to stand up to this big scary guy. The luv that formed between these 2 was so good I was routing for them once they set eyes on each other. They needed each other so much. I think these mite have become my favourites from this series. I luv Styx and Mae and It and Lilah it’s so hard to pick a favourite but I think Flame and Maddie are just so great together.
I would highly recommend this book and yes I m saying it again WHY am I only reading this series now. Everything about it is brilliant I really can’t get enough of it. The writing is just amazing. I ‘ve fell in luv with every character so far and there stories are just getting more heart breaking as we go on. I really looking forward to this next book after what happened I need to read the next book I need to know more I really am addicted to this series.
I adore this series so much!!
I so wish there was an option to give a rating more than just five stars!!! With each release in the Hades Hangmen series, their stories get more intense and the story of Maddie & Flame was the most emotional so far.
Maddie is the last of the Cursed Women of Eve that was liberated from The Order when the Hangmen went to save Mae in It Ain’t Me Babe. She was also the most broken of the women. Her torture at the hands of the men in the commune started much earlier for her and she coped by withdrawing completely from her sisters and everyone else.
Now living at the MC compound, she keeps isolated for fear of being touched and remains skittish around men for fear they would do the same to her as the elders from her faith. With the exception of one biker. Flame is the quiet brother of the MC and is also the scariest of the bunch. Always with his knives and inflicting cuts to his own body as he battles his own demons. I knew he was going to have an intense story from getting glimpses of him in the previous books. But his story turned out to be so much more than I expected and I broke my heart just as much as it broke Maddie’s
Both Maddie and Flame were tortured and broken by those believing it was for their faith. This essentially molded them to be perfect for each other. Each understanding the inner struggle and hell they battled daily. They were able to break through to each other and offer a form of salvation. Their connection limited to just the two of them, Flame was able to offer Maddie the safety she so desired and Maddie was able to calm the fires that Flame dealt with everyday.
I have to say this book title was the perfect description for these characters and the salvation they ultimately find in each other.
And finally we have the book of the most intriguing character of this series, Flame. From the first book he already calls attention for not being very “normal”, always with his knives and his blood thirst. It was the most awaited for me, and I was not disappointed. His book is wonderful. Maddie is such a heroine. At the end of the first book, when the club invades the cult and rescues the girls, Maddie takes an attitude that will trace her destiny: she holds Flame in gratitude for him having killed the elder who abused her.
Maddie is Mae’s younger sister and the one who suffered the most. That is why she has closed in its own world and can not be touched. When she is rescued, she spends her days in a club bedroom, never interacting with anyone, fearing everyone. Flame has its own demons. His sanity is not the best, he knows that something is wrong with his head, he can not bear to be touch, but that girl, with eyes so tormented, with a simple gesture as a hug, managed to stop the flames that burn inside him.
Thus, Maddie arranges a guardian. Flame spends his days watching over the room she is in, so nothing will happen to her. Whether sitting outside the door or making rounds under her window, Flame will be a constant shadow. Until a situation will put his little sanity to the test. Suffering an outbreak, Flame will need all the help to endure this nightmare, and Maddie will be the figure who will help him. The frail and fearful girl will be stronger than she looks and will fight to save Flame.
I loved the two characters. Their story is similar. Both suffered as a child in the hand of people who used the faith in a distorted way. The whole situation of Flame is heart-breaking. His father is a monster. Thinking that his son to be different (it is not spoken in the book, but it is noticeable that he is autistic) was the work of the devil and allow the atrocities that have done with him, and worse, he even abuses the child show that the devil was him, not an innocent child.
Everything that happened to his mother and his brother only served to hurt him even more. The reader will suffer with him, and tears are guaranteed. His story will be sad, painful, but necessary to understand why he is the that away now. The friendship between him, Ak and Viking is the only good thing in his life. It’s what keeps him going. Until Maddie’s arrival.
Maddie also suffered a lot. Her story is as tragic as Flame’s. Her childhood and innocence were stolen. Not allowing anyone’s touch, her sketchbook is an escape from her reality, projecting on the drawings the things she would like to be doing, how she wanted to be living, but what she knows will be very difficult to accomplish.
Maddie is the strongest of all heroines. The moment she confronts the club to take care of Flame made me laugh. It was good to see her imposing herself and showing that she was serious. The scene of the two on the floor, wanting to touch but not being able to, was one of the saddest I ever read. Two shattered souls, who have recognized each other and together try to glue the pieces together, and who knows, maybe find a normality.
Their story is well worth it. The surprise that Flame discovers in the end will be an interesting addition to the plot. The end of the book ends on a hook for the next one, which will leave the reader eager for answers. Maddie and Flame may not be the typical couple, but their love is epic.
Souls Unfractured I would say is probably my favourite book so far for this series but only by a little as I love all these books, but there is just something so special with Flame and Maddi that you can’t help but love these two.
Flame for me would have to be the most interesting character that I have ever read. In the first two books he was so interesting and I think he just had you guessing and intrigued about his life and what’s happened in his past and why he does certain things. I was too excited to read this book and it didn’t disappoint.
Throughout this book I just really felt sad so sad for what Flame and Maddi went through. Even though I loved this book so much I just felt so sad. A few times listening to this I did feel sick and wanted the violence to stop but that is what makes these books and it’s not for the faint hearted. There wasn’t as much drama or action in this book but that’s what I loved just learning about these two characters is what was needed.
Maddi was the shyest of these sister and in the first two books she was pretty quiet, we knew she had suffered more than the other two girls physically and learning more about the commune was heartbreaking and you felt heartbreak for Maddi she was a beautiful character and Flame just brought so much more of her out. She started to grow and learn about love and life and it was such a pleasure to grow with her.
What a special character Flame is and I love everything about him, Styx will always be my favourite in this series but you can see why Flame is a fan favourite. Since the day he was born Flame was ridiculed and was told he was retarted and was a sinner, he was also abused and treated inhumanly and it was hard to read/listen to these scenes. It really upset me and made me feel sad , but finally understanding the way Flame is and why he does a lot of stuff just all made sense and really it really made me fall in love with him.
These two characters were so perfect together and the way there stories were told Tillie Cole did a perfect job. As I said there wasn’t too much action but Christ was this a page turner of secrets and of course we get those few chapters to see what’s happening at the commune.
Can’t wait to listen to Deep Redemption and see what happens to the commune.
This book deserves so much more than 5 stars but that’s all I can give. This is my favourite series and if you haven’t started it and you like a dark romance then this baby is for you.
This is my fave out of the series.
I found it so romantic with Maddie and Flame.
You find out why Flame is so tortured and how Maddie calms him
Tillie Cole slayed me. This book was everything I wanted and more. Souls Unfractured is my favorite book in the Hades Hangmen series. I fell madly in love with Flame in the first book. He was so broken I just wanted to fix him and make it all better. So I couldn’t wait to get to his and Maddie’s book. And it was better then I expected. There was some seriously dark, twisted, and taboo parts in this book, but Flame and Maddie’s relationship was touching, powerful, and beautiful. This book obliterated me, broke my heart then pieced me back together. Although I am pretty sure I need some therapy after reading this! But it was worth it!
Maddie having escape only a few months ago from The Order, a religious cult that branded her a cursed devil’s woman since birth because of her beauty, lives in fear. Only one thing makes Maddie feel safe, feel anything and that is Flame. Flame, the man that killed her tormentor, Brother Moses, a man that raped and hurt her daily since she was six. Everyday Maddie sits in the window watching her hero Flame pace back and forth keeping guard over her, cutting himself. She watches and wishes to help him be free of his demons as he freed her of hers. She sits in her window and draws the life she wishes she could have with Flame, a life free of fear, a life with touch and love. Since neither her or Flame can stand to be touched she knows she can never have her dream of having a love with Flame like Lilah and Ky or Mae and Styx have, so she must be content with watching him and her art. But when some unknown thing triggers a mental break in Flame, and no one can reach him, Maddie knows she must go to him and try before it’s to late!
Flame is one of the most broken, raw, beautiful, and memorable characters I have ever read. He is now one of my top 5 favorite heroes of all times with Bone, Vlad, Talen Kayrs, and Ian Mackenzie. I could never do justice telling how amazing I find him, but I am going to try. Flame grew up in a religious cult too, one that doesn’t believe in doctors, one where they dance with snakes, drink snake poison, and if a snake bites you it means you have evil in you. Having always been different, Flame didn’t fit in. He didn’t know how to talk to people, didn’t understand facial expressions, social cues, or emotions. People always cried, laughed or got angry with him. The book never says, but I am sure he is high functioning autistic. His father would get mad, beat him, calling him a evil retard, not knowing what he did wrong he just stop talking which only made is father angrier. Telling Flame that he has the flames of hell running through his veins and that he is evil. Flame is a broken man, A man so damaged he thinks his touch kills and hurts. He always feels flames under his skin, he is always cutting himself trying to get them out. Reliving daily the abuse of his father in his head til it drives him crazy. Flame wants Maddie, but he doesn’t want to hurt her with his touch. Maddie is his and he will do everything in his power to protect her even if he can never really be with her.
Maddie and Flame together are one of the most beautiful couples ever. The way they give so much to each other, fight for each other, protect each other. The way their love overcomes their brokenness. Learning what true and pure love was together. Learning to touch each other, trust each other. It was heart warming, and breathtakingly beautiful. Their love was worth all the dark, gut wrenching things I had to read about their past. They both have been through fire and came out together stronger then ever.
I still feel there is no redemption for Cain. I don’t really care if he claims ignorance in the raping of children or the punishment of Lilah. He was told about it more than once, hell he seen enough with his own eyes to know it was true. He just didn’t want to rock the boat and ruin his chance at getting Mae for himself. Turning a blind eye doesn’t make him less guilty. Not to mention he also knows that women have no choice in having sex with men in what is called the Lord’s sharing. No choice is rape! So he was okay openly with the rape of the women in The Order. So in my eyes he is not only a disgusting, repulsive, but he is a coward too. Is it wrong that when his brother Judah betrayed him that I was laughing at him, enjoying the little bit of comeuppance Cain got while wishing it would have been worse? Will I read his book? You bet I will. Why because I have OCD and I won’t be able to skip around, and I want to read the series I fell in love with all the way through. Plus I now hate his brother Judah too and want to see them both suffer. I am so glad I found this amazing series and I can’t wait til the next book comes out, because I am already craving more!
If you ever think you are to broken to be loved or to love again Flame and Maddie’s story will bring back the faith that you can heal. I absolutely loved Flame and the demons he had to fight. Maddie finds her strength and learns to be strong for love. I have loved the series but this story has been my favorite.
I’m at a loss of words on how to accurately express my feelings about this book. The entire series has brought out different emotions for me but this book shattered me and rebuilt me.
I’ve anticipated hearing Flame’s story since we first met him in It Ain’t Me Babe. Something about him just pulled at me and grabbed my attention. Well, Tillie delivered one powerful, heartbreaking, yet hopeful story. Flame ripped into my soul and held on, dragging me along to show me his world. Even during the painful times, I loved every moment of it.
Amazing job, Tillie. Your writing continues to suck me in and force me to ride that emotional roller coaster.
It’s horrific in its torture , it’s aggressive in its approach. It’s perfect in its execution. The story is the main hero of this book.
It’s very engrossing and Hypnotic. Flame hooks you from the word go. A lion untamed, a beast unleashed. It takes subtle, angelic beauty of Maddie to calm his fire .what an unusual couple yet so perfectly aligned. She’s Yin to his Yang. Calm to his storm. Cool to his Flames. She harnesses his destructive and vicious energy and directs it towards herself. The burning torturous flames leave hus soul and love flows in his veins.
I think this may be my fav of the series so far.
Fractured souls coming Unfractured…together
******COULD CONTAIN minor SPOILERS******
“For Fractured souls are like magnets. Drawn to collide into an impossible bliss…”
This book is perfection! I was really curious about Flame when we met him in the previous two books, I wanted to know why he was the way he was. This book answered all my questions. This book made me smile, laugh, cry, angry, sad etc. It broke me at the beginning and healed me at the end. Maddie and Flame are in my top 5 favorite couples, Flame is now one of my top book boyfriends.
“Two fractured souls made whole by the other’s unconditional love.”
Both Maddie and Flame went through so much. I can’t even imagine how they survived. They are so strong even when they thought they weren’t. Flame is EVERYTHING!!!! He was so protective over Maddie from the first time he saw her. My heart broke for both of them, they needed healing and they both did that to each other. The scene where Flame looked at Maddie’s drawings was so beautiful, I felt every emotion he was feeling.
I LOVE AK and Viking, they are such amazing friends to Flame. They saved him and always watched his back. I am so happy Flame is part of such a great brotherhood. I can’t imagine what would’ve happened if he wasn’t a part of it.
I was surprised to see that the next book Deep Redemption is Rider’s story, I don’t hate him as much as some other people do. He was born in the cult so believed everything that was said by the elders and prophet. He kind of redeemed himself in this book. He finally saw with his own eyes what is going in the cult. This book was a major eye-opener for him. The ending of this book has me scared though don’t know how he will get out.
I AM SUPER EXCITED THAT THERE WILL BE AT LEAST 4 MORE BOOKS!! <3 I am guessing that AK and Viking will get their own story. I hope Lil Ash be the main character of book #7 (Darkness Embraced).
Tillie, thank you so much for writing Flame's story. Absolutely love this book. This series is my all time favorite MC series.
Favorite quotes:
"And your touch did not harm me. The flames you believe run in your veins, did not engulf me. Instead, you gave me life. You gave me back my light."
"You, Flame. My Flame. My tortured boy. You gave me life and light."
"I draw, and that makes me happy. I was wondering what makes you happy? - I watch you."
"Do you... ever think about me, too? Do you ever wonder what it would be like to touch me, too?" - "All the time. I think about it all the fucking time."
"Just like your picture, Maddie. I'm holding you just like your sketch."
"We are Flame and Maddie. And we have survived."
MY GOD. I got obssesive with this Hangmen story. So far my favorite of the entire saga.
Finally, I could know what were going on in Flame’s mind, and the way he actually is (not crazy, but his demons take full of him). Its so mad, so intense, but it still has its little funny parts, making it not so deep in the sorrow of the characters pasts. Loved to know Maddie better; o’ course I knew she was strong and intelligent, And its good to see that she is the only one who can really understand Flame’s attitude and personality because she’s the same. They both share the same king of grin. They are each others heal. And in like every good love story, the love trama between these two is simply amazing. The way they heal with their relation, its just so cute, proving once more that what matters is within, inside, and that someone can fix you and know you deeply if you let him in.
It got me so bad that I ended the book in less than a day.
Another perfect piece of this Hades Hangmen world. I absolutely ADORE IT. Not strange that Tillie has become in my favorite writer BECAUSE SHES JUST SO FAB!!!
I think all the Hades Hangmen books deserve 5 stars, but this one may just deserve 50 stars. The story is just amazing. Some people might think that the story may be the darkest yet, but personally, I think it’s the most beautiful of all of them. Flame and Maddie really are the other half of each other’s soul, and they complete each other in a way that no one else would be able to do.
Flame is a member of the Psycho Trio of the Hades Hangmen. He has never seen the world the way that other people do, and because of that, he suffered terribly as a child. Now, as an adult, he hates to be touched, he hates most people, and he has to cut himself in order to stay any kind of calm. He will happily go out and stab people 11 times. He may be and do all of those things, but there is also one other thing that he is and does. He is very protective of Maddie and stands guard outside of wherever she happens to be living.
Maddie is the youngest of the Cursed from the terrible cult. She suffered greatly during her time there, and even worse after her sister Mae left. When she and Lilah were rescued, Flame was there and he disposed of the man who had tortured her the most. She went and hugged him, which surprised everyone, since Flame can’t be touched, but he also hugged her back. Even though Flame may scare everyone else, she feels safe when he’s around.
Their journey is just an amazing one. Things that you and I may take for granted don’t come easily to either Maddie or Flame, and it’s an epic struggle for them to be able to do those things, so when they are able to do something as simple as hold hands, you can feel how much of a victory it is for them to get to that point. They had to work so hard for that.
Unlike some other books when the two broken people get together and somehow manage to completely heal the other, Maddie and Flame aren’t strictly healed. They have just learned what it will take to manage their pain and their broken-ness, and that is the other person.
Really, of all the couples in the books, I think that Maddie and Flame are my favorite because they have so much more to overcome and because they work so hard to get there.
