A girl with dormant powers. A sorcerer with a mysterious past. A forbidden path in magic.
Clara’s parents have her life all planned out for her. It’s the 1800s and she’s a daughter of the aristocracy. Her duty is to marry the man her parents choose for her, hold her tongue, and practice needlepoint.
Clara has no intention to marry into a life of misery. But she isn’t looking for a life of magic either. Magic is dangerous. Her parents have worked hard to keep her from it.
But magic is coming for Clara, whether she likes it or not. When her powers awaken, she can choose the safe path and pretend it isn’t happening. Or she can claim her power and face all the dangers it comes with, including the dark stranger with a secret past.
Magic Awakens is book one in Lucia Ashta’s Witching World Series. This is the first book I have read by this author and I was not disappointed.
Clara is a young woman in a world dominated by men and traditions. To further expand their wealth and power the Count and Countess of Norland arrange a marriage for Clara with the eldest son of the Count and Countess of Chester Samuel. Hesitant at first both Samuel and Clara bond and find they don’t mind each other or the idea of marriage, Samuel is kind, understanding and friendly. But things are not to go as they hoped and the marriage falls through and instead of marrying Samuel, Clara is to marry Winston the cruel, brutal and evil younger brother. When Clara’s health takes a turn and all the doctors have no hope for her survival, the only person who has a chance of helping her is Marcelo, a magician. Magic is evil and anyone who uses or possess it must be executed, but desperate for the marriage to still take place the Count of Norland pays Marcelo to take Clara to their Lake house and heal her. But healing Clara from the fever is only the beginning.
I was so intrigued and addicted to this book, from the beginning I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. The characters and plot is so interesting. Watching Clara slowly grow and except who/what she is, even though she still is unsure i can’t wait to watch her to continue to grow and flourish. Marcelo is very mysterious and interesting character, he is full of secrets and history and I am looking forward to the bond between him and Clara to grow.
A wonderful read full of action, adventure and perhaps the beginning of love. Nobility and it’s expectations. Can Clara truly be saved from it as she learns she can do magic & how to control it.
I received this book while free from a retailer. I’m giving a voluntary honest review.
What happens next? I’m really drawn into this series and ready to start the next book.
Magic Awakens is a great read! From the first page, I was hooked. Lucia Ashta is a great storyteller, she brings her characters and world to life.
First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review. Also, this author is new to me but hopefully won’t be for long.
Wow, this story mixed regency history with the paranormal. Clara was sixteen & the perfect Lady as the daughter of a Count & Countess. Unfortunately she became very ill before she was to be married off to a different Count’s son. No doctors could help, so her parents hired a man who was believed to be a magician, Marcelo, to heal her. Magic users were treated badly, as in burning at the stake and such. During her convalescents she started to do magic unintentionally. So many things happen. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.
NAILED IT!!!
Man talk about breaking it down to build it back up! Lucia totally rocked this baby right here. I mean she always shines, but in this one its as bright as the sun. I never saw what was coming until it was to late. The characters are unique and diverse with different traits and personalities it literally takes your breath. The scenes are descriptive and graphic that it really comes alive. With all the twists and turns the excitement and adrenaline are running high. Lucia is absolutely brilliant with an imagination and insight she covers the smallest details so you can actually picture it in your mind’s eye. Lucia did an absolute remarkable job bringing this read together beautifully. Fantastic job Lucia, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Clara is a teenage royal that has been promised to marry another, but finds companionship in a man that is helping her to discover and refine her magical talents. There are lots of great (and not so great) characters to meet while Clara and Marcelo are on the road, with new experiences around every turn. I would recommend this book to readers that enjoy magical stories set in medieval environments.
