My name is Jack. Oh, don’t let the masculine sounding nickname fool you. I’m all girl—even like long walks along the beach— but when it comes to matters of the heart, well, I’m a bitch. That’s not my technical title. Officially, I’m a Cupid. Cursed by Eros, the God of Love, himself, to help others believe in “happily ever afters.” Me, I swore never to be a sucker for the swoon six years ago. One … years ago. One arrow away from immortality, I don’t plan on changing my single status … no matter what that meddling god has cooked up in his “all you need is love” brain.

This book by Mindy Ruiz rivets the readers’ attention from the beginning all the way through to the final pages, where they are left with a doozy of a hanging question. The three main characters are so flawed, emotionally raw, and oh so vulnerable to each other, as they have or have been friends since their early childhoods. It is also a different look at the emotional wreckage love, and more importantly, undeniable love can cause. It is also a book about second chances and whether they should be taken or even given. But most importantly, it is truly and simply, a love story to end all love stories. This is a very very late voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I received a copy of this book from Goodreads and Mindy Rui was a brand new writer for me to experience. I I found this story about Jaquelyn and Hugh a very well written story that kept me flipping the pages since I’m lucky to read a couple hrs. a day and I’m a slow reader this gave me angst till I could read from where I left it. I loved the characters depicted in this romance and the Greek mythology mixed in. Jaquelyn “Jack” Alcantar made a deal with Eros after her heart was broken by Hugh Hailia. Jack is working for Cupid Corps and has one more job before she becomes immortal, unfortunately her assignment takes her back home where it all started. Meeting Hugh again brings her feelings back and this time Hugh is determined to get Jack back. What will Jack do? This story gives the insight of what Jack and Hugh think during their POV’s that is written in this delightful story that I volunteer to review. I’ll definitely be looking for more stories in the Stupid Cupid series and her other books since I’m a fan of paranormal romances.
This is the first book that I read by Mindy Ruiz and I absolutely loved it! Jack is such a fun character! It is so easy to forget that this is a second chance romance with mythological entities wrapped up in it! Jack is trying to make sure she gets her 50 arrows, but her final test will either make or break her. You know Eros isn’t going to make it easy so you get one more shot at love to see if you can truly shut your heart totally away. Jack wants to be immortal and never have to worry about getting her heart broken again, but can she do it? Can she past this last test?
This book was so much fun reading. I could totally relate to Jack in not wanting to give love a second chance, especially with someone who broke her heart. She is an engaging character. The author flips back and forth between her and Hugh. Each chapter is identified as the other character, so there are no worries on getting them confused.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. Well done, enjoyable and loved every bit!
I received an ARC copy from the author for my honest opinion of her work.
I liked the author’s idea that is fleshed out through these pages. Jack was determined to meet her goal and become immortal. She just needed to pass her final assignment, which turned out to be a doozy. There were times where Jack’s character began to bother me. But, we can all be so focused that we are blind to what is in front of us, or we fight against it and pretend we don’t see.
Hugh was a piece of work, and his half brother was horrid. I though the supporting characters added to the story in a positive way, though, I did not like some of them. There were times that I wanted to know what was going on in Mack’s and Tessa’s heads. It didn’t take away from the story, I was just curious.
The writing was good. The story is written in duel povs, which offered insight in the mind of the characters. There were a couple of places that I had to reread to gain a clearer understanding of who was speaking. The pacing fit the story.
There is adult language ( which always irritates me) but it did not seem as though I was being cussed at. No explicit sex, though it does get heated and there are several mentionings. Also, there is reference to molestation/rape, though there are no explicit details. There are also references to murder.
I LOVE this Greek mythology romance! It was cute, it was witty! I couldn’t put it down! This is my first read from this author, and the writing was exceptional. I would definitely recommend!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own
