New York Times bestselling author Chantal Fernando returns with a brand new series about a brigade of lawyers who, despite being bad boys at heart, always end up just on the right side of the law. Katerina Dawson knows exactly what she wants from life. And as the new associate at the top law firm in the city, she’s ready to live out her dreams of becoming a criminal lawyer. But going on coffee … lawyer. But going on coffee runs and babysitting kids during the day was definitely not what she had in mind. She knows that anyone else would kill to be in her shoes, but she has to draw the line somewhere. That’s easier said than done, though, when Kat has to confront her handsome boss…
Tristan Channing and Jaxon Bentley run a successful law firm together and the two partners couldn’t be busier right now. When Jaxon suddenly takes a leave of absence, Tristan begrudgingly assumes responsibility of the new associate, the hot new associate, who has curves for days. Needing to keep his distance from her, Tristan sends Kat on needless errands and has her doing work even an intern wouldn’t touch, like picking up his kids. But his plan backfires when he sees his children grow attached to Kat and sees her getting comfortable in his home. It triggers something deep within him, and it feels right to have her there. Will Tristan be able to keep his work and personal lives separate, or will he find that his heart holds the final verdict?more
This was a short read that took me no time to finish. I liked all the characters in this book. Tristan and Kat were really great characters that I immediately liked. Although, Tristan was kinda broody and hard to read at first, but his cool exterior slowly deteriorated as he spent more time with Kat. Kat was really great because she was driven and worked hard at her job. I felt bad for her when Tristan was treating her like crap and having her pick up his kids from school and get him coffee. I liked the relationship slowly built for Kat and Tristan and my only issue is that they finally admitted their feelings wayy too late in this book especially since its so short. It took about 70% into this book for them to do anything together. I knocked off a star for what I felt was some unnecessary drama towards the end. I didn’t like it at all. The one thing I really enjoyed about this book was Tristan’s daughter Laura and his son Logan who is the cutest little boy ever. I liked how they warmed up to Kat and how she ended up really loving and caring about them.
I did enjoy this book and its my first book by this author so I am not disappointed at all. I liked being able to pick up a quick light read. I am looking forward to reading Jaxon’s book because she disappeared way too early for my liking because he was really great.
I loved this book so much!!! Tristan and Kat are so cute together. I love the bond they had with his children. I wish it was longer I need more sexy Tristan
I received a complimentary ARC – early release copy of this book in Kindle format from the author for review purposes.
This is a brand new author for me and it appears like she is a relatively new author. She did a wonderful job with it. It is an interesting story with some interesting characters and I would love to read more stories in this series.
Also a couple that is mentioned in this story as best friends with the heroine, Maisie are Caden and Piper and their son. You can read that story, Sound of Silence here from Amazon.
That said I almost quit reading this story at 50%. The first part of the book I highly enjoyed. Great characters, great storyline, and just enough drama to make me really enjoy the story, plus lots of side characters I really enjoyed.
But around 50% I sorta started hating the male lead, Jayce and I hated how Maisie, the female lead allowed him to treat her. And because of that I started to disrespect her as well. And had this not been a review, I would have quit right then and there, but I didn’t I kept reading and I got angrier at times. Eventually Maisie finally sees how she is being treated and how wrong it is and she finally fights back and things finally change enough for me to enjoy the story.
This is essentially a boss/intern romance. But at times I felt like Jayce was cheating on Maisie and I hate books like that. Now he never actually cheats on her so I want you to understand that but at times he treats her crappy and its because of this other woman. And while its a platonic relationship the things he does or shares with her made me feel like he cheated on Maisie. And it turned my stomache. Now Maisie almost always finds out but that’s why I started to hate how she let him treat her.
For instance the first night they sleep together until morning. He runs out on Maisie to go to this other woman and Maisie even hears that he does this and she lets that go. Now he was being a good friend but it was too much. And he never even calls or tries to make it up to her. I would have made things hard for him but Maisie just lets it go and its not okay in my opinion.
The second instance I felt was really awful was when he celebrates Thanksgiving with his family he brings her along. Now its platonic and they make a big show how she is family and its not a date. But imagine the guy you really like and instead of spending a holiday with him, he is with his family and this other woman. Not okay in my opinion.
There is a 3rd example but finally Maisie gets a clue and so I was so happy she doesn’t continue accepting this behavior and finally fights back. The book ends on a great note but mostly its a summary and I would have rather got to experience it rather than being told it more in a fast summary .
That said I did enjoy the other characters in the story and would love to read their stories next.
Wow, I seriously didn’t expect to devour this book as quickly as I did. I had just come off a semi dark read and this was just absolutely wanted I needed to cleanse by pallet. I’ve read all of Fernando’s Wind Dragon books so I wasn’t really sure how Breaching the contract was going to go. I’m so happy to say that I really enjoyed it.
Kat has worked hard to get where she is so when she lands an associate lawyer job at one of the most prestigious law firms there is, she couldn’t be more determined to one day make partner. As she starts her job, she’s on cloud nine. Her boss is amazing and she loves his teaching style. But then a family emergency leaves Kat with a new boss. A sexy, brooding boss who gives her the most mundane tasks that have absolutely nothing to do with the law. She wants to hate him but she’s drawn to him.
Tristan’s reputation precedes him. Everyone thinks he’s tough as nails, which he is. But not many get to see what a great guy he actually is. In an attempt to keep Kat away from him, he gives her all those tasks and really pisses her off. Of course, she’s irresistible and once they start spending more and more time together, he can’t deny his attraction to her.
What I liked the most about this story was watching Kat discover what a great guy Tristan really is. I’m pretty sure woman’s ovaries are going to explode when they see what an amazing Dad he is. Ovaries exploded, heart melted and mind blow. That’s what Tristan will do to you.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Breaching the Contract is the perfect escape to warm your heart and cleanse your soul. Give it a try, you’ll be happy that you did.
3.5 stars–BREACHING THE CONTRACT is the first installment in Chantal Fernando’s contemporary, adult CONFLICT OF INTEREST erotic, romance series of novellas. This is attorney Tristan Channing, and attorney Katerina Dawson’s story line.
Told from first person point of view (Katerina) BREACHING THE CONTRACT focuses on the building relationship between lawyers Katerina Dawson and Tristan Channing. Kat is a recent grad, and the new associate at one of the top law firms in the city. Hired by Jaxon Bentley, Kat finds herself thrust into the legal world of research and litigation but an emergency pulled Jaxon home leaving Kat under the mentorship of Tristan Channing- a man with a reputation hard as steel for making the newbies quit and cry. What ensues is the building romance between our leading couple, and the potential fall out when a past transgression could potentially destroy Tristan’s well –ordered world.
BREACHING THE CONTRACT is a quick read: a fast paced story line about two people thrown together in both their personal and professional lives. The story line conflict is limited to Tristan’s attraction to Kat, and the upheaval in his personal life at home. The premise is sexy; the characters are colorful and passionate although I would have liked more details about their individual history and background; the romance is seductive and intense. BREACHING THE CONTRACT is an energetic and hopeful story of romance, second chances, and a happily ever after.
Breaching the Contract is feel-good office romance with fun characters and wit. Kat’s inner dialogue kept me chuckling through most of the story and I really like that this isn’t an instalove romance. The fact that Tristan and Kat don’t fall into bed immediately and spend a big portion of the story avoiding that very thing is one of the things that adds to the story. There is a rather unnecessary plot twist toward the end that almost seems to be thrown in for the sake of a bit of angst to this otherwise light-hearted tale, leaving the ending feeling a bit rushed to resolve the issue. Other than that, the book is well-written and entertaining, with a charismatic pair and a couple of sweet kids, making this perfect for a fun afternoon read.
Katerina Dawson has just gotten her foot in the door at a prestigious law firm and is ready to tackle whatever they throw at her… but babysitting her bosses kids and getting him coffee aren’t quite what she had in mind. She was under the impression she would be helping with cases and research not playing nanny to his kids, she tries to be professional about the whole thing, but her boss wants to take things in another direction… a very unexpected direction!
The moment Tristan Channing’s eyes land on his new associates face, he can’t help but be completely taken with her, she is beautiful, and tempting as hell… but starting something with her would not be wise nor professional. So, he does everything he can to keep her away, if she isn’t around then he can’t be tempted right? So he sends her to babysit his kids thinking that it’s a safe alternative, but then he starts to see that she is just what his kids need, and he soon starts to realize he’s made a mistake. His kids are attached to her, and he would like to be attached to her too, physically of course, but she doesn’t seem to have any interest in letting that happen… or does she?
This sexy little office romance read was hot, captivating, and a refreshing change of pace from my current reading norm. I always like finding a read that centers around forbidden romance, I enjoy the angst, indecision, and the fight between right and wrong, and this one definitely had all that… and then some! As much as they both tried to fight the relationship, the more intense things got between them, and they both knew it was wrong… but sometimes doing the wrong thing ends up being the thing that makes the most sense… and they definitely embraced the wrong!! Have to say I really enjoyed this newest offering from Ms. Fernando, it was engaging, scintillating, and packed a serious emotional punch!! Highly recommend!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
