Poetry and prose are a delightful combination, and that’s what you get when you read A Promise of Fireflies.
Ryleigh loses her mother and husband in short order, and just to add salt to her would, her adult soon will also soon move on, which leaves Ryleigh alone, lonely, and down. Putting her mother’s affairs in order does help take up her time, but soon she finds herself caught up in secrets that, once uncovered, make her realize how little she knew the woman who raised her.
And there’s more, much more.
Old secrets, new love. A stranger who I would easily consider not of this world…
Susan Haught is new to me. I know; I don’t know how I’d never discovered her. But I know her now, and I won’t be happy until I’ve read all of her books.
This was an amazing book. Not what I was expecting, but I loved it. So real; it seemed true.
This book is by far the most beautiful romantic and loving book I have ever read. It is gentle, yet passionate, and thoughtfully written. I will never forget this story, and would love to talk with someone who feels the same way I do about this book because it really touched me that deeply.
I’ve read a lot of romantic fiction. Ever since I was a child and my mother introduced me to the Tales of King Arthur, I’ve dreamed of being rescued by a knight on a white horse. A Promise of Fireflies is indeed a promise of all that women hold dear about falling in love. The characters in this book aren’t perfect people. Ryleigh (the heroine) has to deal with deep emotional scars, lies, and the challenge of opening to a new perspective on life. And the rich cast of characters
all confront her—dare her—to put her fears to rest and be willing to face a new future. But as anyone with relationship experience knows, that’s as easy as finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
In action/adventure stories there’s an obvious evil villain. But in real life our villains are often those of our own making. Susan Haught shows how our deepest fears can trap and keep us from the life and love that we desire, and she explores these potential pitfalls with courage, openness, and such beautiful phrasing. There are letters that will make your heart swell, poetry that will make you cry, and love that will make you yearn to recapture that first feeling of falling for someone.
Haught’s deftness with description brings the scenery to life, no matter the season, even to the point that snow and icicles and frozen water (I don’t like winter at all) become breathtaking. And she is such the romantic. Your heart will go out to Ryleigh from the beginning and you won’t stop feeling for her and with her until the very end. I LOVED this book. A Promise of Fireflies (the first in a series) is a beautiful, captivating story that gives you romance with a capital “R.”
I thought that this book had great emotional depth. It made you get emotionally invested in the characters. You wanted everything to turn out well for them. It was very well-written. Loved it and would recommend it to everyone who wants to read a lovely, sometimes sad, but hopeful romance novel. The author of this book very generously gave me a free copy after conversing with her in an email exchange. She was very nice and exceedingly friendly. I am very willingly giving a review of the book because I thoroughly enjoyed it and the conversation with the author of said book.
She thought her life was ideal but it all changed when her marriage fails and she has an empty nest. Her mother has died and she finds secrets have been hidden. Now she wants to find them out. Her husband comes back wanting another chance. She leaves to find the answers she needs. She ends snowed in with another man. What will happen next? See how they get on

Pain Begets Growth, Powerful Chick-Lit
This is an awesome story that I recommend to everyone. To women who have been betrayed, this book is for you. The fact that I could deeply identify with our heroine makes this book even better. I love the poetry and symbolism. I am going to buy this series for a couple of my girlfriends for Christmas. I received this book for free and this is my honest review.
This is a very intriguing and sweet romantic story! I really enjoyed the plot and characters. It’s a little different from some of the romantic stories I have read but it definitely draws you in until the very end.

This is a touching story of hurt, betrayal and redemption. Ryleigh is mourning the loss of her mother and the betrayal of her husband. As she goes through her mother’s belongings, she comes across a journal and a bloodstained letter. She is compelled to find out the meaning for her mother holding on to them. In the mean time she is dealing with her ex husband and his drama. Seeking solace she goes to the mountains where she meets Logan the owner of the resort. They are captivated by each others presence from the start and when a snow storm heads in and they are covered in snow, so do the feelings that they share. Logan and Ryleigh are two individuals who have lost and suffered but can they put aside their past for a chance at happiness?

This is not a light read but a rather long intense journey of Ryleigh finding herself after a divorce from her cheating ex, who know sees the error of his ways & wants her back.
After her mothers death she also seeks to find the truth regarding her late father & meets an interesting psychic like man called Ambrose who fills her in the truths. There’s more to it but I’ll leave it at that. The fireflies will make sense too.
She is encouraged by her friends to visit a resort to help their business where she meets Logan the owner. He is a widower & fighting his own demons. Of course their interlude turns cold for various reasons, his more so than hers. I must admit by then I felt like I had been wading through the story. I’m quite a quick reader so you have to bear with it to see where the story goes.
From time to time you get the viewpoint of some of the other characters. The story is quite descriptive, angsty at times but I did like the characters as they were older (40ish).
I wasn’t disappointed as I enjoyed the story but be prepared as it gets a bit heavy at times & there is a lot going on.

I have another author to add to my list. You know how sometimes you highlight things in a book because you don’t want to forget it, it fits your life now , or maybe it just is written so beautifully you don’t want it lost among your library. I started doing that soon realizing that the whole book will be highlighted. Highlight the title. The author is an incredible writer, some I found poignant, some wise, all beautiful. Started and Finished the first book last night. Bought the rest of the series. Loved it.
This is my first book by Ms. Haught. I enjoyed the lyrical-ness of the writing and it made for a visually appealing read. The mystery of the leather journal felt very Nicholas Sparks which pulled me into wanting to know more. At times the story was a bit slow and a few too many stories going on at once for me to really get invested into each one. Some of the stories was a bit heavier than I expected, but that’s not a bad thing. I did want a little more arc to Logan and wanted his part to read more romantic for a romance story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book even though there were elements I found frustrating, such a viewpoint changes. This book kept me up well into the night, so I’m glad to be finished so I can get a good night’s sleep again! Even though I loved this book, I did not like that the heroine never questioned anything about her lover’s relationship status. Didn’t even wonder in her mind, which I did not like and which was not in character with her. Nonetheless, it was a great story.
This is a well written book with a heartfelt story line. The characters are strong and likable and the author weaves a powerful story filled with tons of emotions flowing throughout .. the grief and loneliness , the insecurity and pain and finally the tenderness and love. She creates beautiful love scenes and brings their characters to life. I loved reading Ryleigh and Logan’s story and highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
