They say everyone’s a superhero to someone. I’m not sure who I’m supposed to save, but I know who saved me. We were kids. His name was Christopher. And up until the day he pulled me from death’s grip, he was nothing more than a boy I felt sorry for. In a blink of an eye, he became the only person who made me feel safe. And then he disappeared. Now I’m seventeen. I’m not a kid anymore. I haven’t … been for years. While death didn’t take me that day, the things that happened left me with scars–the kind that robbed me of everything I once loved and drove me into darkness. But more than anything else, that day–and every day since–has taken away my desire to dream. I wasn’t going to have hope. I wouldn’t let myself wish. Those things–they weren’t for girls like me. That’s what I believed…until the new boy. He’s nothing like the old boy. He’s taller and older. His hair is longer, and his body is lean–strong and ready for anything. I don’t feel sorry for him. And sometimes, I hate him. He challenges me. From the moment I first saw him standing there on the baseball field, he pushed me–his eyes constantly questioning, doubting…daring. Still, something about him–it feels…familiar. He says his name is Wes. But I can’t help but feel like he’s someone else. Someone from my past. Someone who’s come back to save me.This time, though, he’s too late. Josselyn Winters, the girl he once knew, is gone. I am the threat; I am my worst enemy. And he can’t save me from myself.

One of my favorite reads ever. Ginger might write YA but she weaves relevant content in her romance that everyone should read. Adore this story.
This book .
Just…. it’s heartbreaking and beautiful And souly haha is that a word ?
I was hooked on this book from the start my heart connected with the characters immediately . The connection between jos and Christopher and then Wes was so strong and beautifully formed .
This is very much a young adult book, highly emotional but very much captivating .
There’s great depth to the characters and so many threads of themes that are explored .
I loved Jocelyn s strength and sass and I loved wes’s kindness , and gentle loving nature but also the air of mystery that surrounds him !
I can’t wait to read book two of this duet . This one ends on a shread of sadness with a dash of hope .
Definitely an original. Kept my interest the whole way through. I’m almost through A Girl Like Me, I couldn’t put it down and had to k ow what happens next.
It was tinged with the paranormal. If you like paranormal, it did not have much, and if you don’t like paranormal, it had too much. Basically it is a teen romance with a little twist to it where a girl has a real life hero that saves the damsel in distress and loves her unconditionally. It was an ok read, but I would not like to read it again. This book is a sequel to another book. If you don’t read the first one, then this book will not make very much sense.
I won’t sugar coat this for you…A Boy Like you is heartbreaking but also beautiful and intriguing.
I have finished to read this book a couple days ago and when I think about it I’m still a mess.
Joss and Wes’ journey was unique and surprising,it kept me on edge from beginning to end.
Joss doesn’t have an easy life, she is on the road of self destruction until she met Wes that gives her some hope becoming her invincible Superhero.
Wes is a good but mysterious guy that conquered the heroine (and me) at first sight.
Ginger Scott has once again outdone herself, this YA novel is amazing and one of my favorite.I always appreciate her writing and her way to interwine the main charaters lives with those of the supporting characters making every little interaction count.
*Rocking in a corner waiting for the second book*
I really enjoyed this book.
About 10 years ago, a young boy saved a girl from her violent father . Now he’s returned under a different name and our young girl, now 17, wants to know why he changed his name and identity. This young adults read explores the impact of Domestic violence in a thoughtful and insightful way
It was great!!
Good story! Very different but loved the characters!
What a book! I couldn’t put it down.
An amazing YA Book by Ginger Scott. Emotion and raw! You will absolutely love A Boy Like You.
An amazing rocking writer with a .99 sale on this book. Get it while you can.
With every new book, Ginger Scott stuns me all over again with her talented storytelling. A Boy Like You is particularly moving and emotional. It brought out so many conflicting feelings—anger, love, awe, wondering. One important aspect of this story is how main characters Josselyn and Wes bring out the best in one another (they really do), and another is that each has unknowingly made a huge impact on the other’s life.
“You have always made me fell like I belong…” — Wes
“He looks at me like I matter.” –Josselyn
Josselyn Winters is the stereotypical kid: best friend, perfect parents, good, but she is not angelic. Then, her life is turned upside down. She is tragic, troubled, and looking for relief in all the wrong places. You’ll want to slap some sense into her. You’ll want to hug her and tell her that she is loved. Most of all you’ll admire her tenacity and fervor. I fell in love with her grit and unbreakable determination.
“I’m like the family cat nobody wants; I could be dropped at the ends of the earth and somehow still find my way home on my feet.” –Josselyn
Beyond that broken little girl is a fireball of a teenager. She is a lovable tomboy whose ultimate struggle with her girly side is hilarious.
Wes Stokes is every high school baseball coach’s dream. He is also most high school girls’ dream. How could you improve on the stereotypical handsome, successful teen athlete? Quiet, mature, thoughtful are the cherry, sprinkles and nuts on top of this boy sundae. Wes is wise and mature beyond his years, and this might be a result of all that he has endured in life. Wes has a few miraculous events that defy reason given his otherwise unlucky life. Until Joss can be her own superhero, Wes is hers.
“Don’t let circumstances dictate what you’re capable of. We’re all special in our own way. Wes taught me that.” –Shawn
The secondary characters are great as well. Joss’ best friends Taryn and Kyle are fabulous in their stalwart support of Joss. I liked Kyle in particular. In some ways, I wanted him to be Joss’ love interest. He has been devoted to her forever, although historically, he has been more of an enabler to Josselyn’s poor choices.
I loved that in this sports-themed romance, both the female and male characters are sporty. I also adored that none of the characters are perfect. They all have their own baggage and challenges, which makes this YA story hit home. Teens frequently think they’re the only person who has a problem/issue, and unless they’re willing to share and listen, they may not ever find out that their classmates are dealing with similar or other unique troubles. It takes a lot of trust by both Joss and Wes to open up to one another and share all their secret demons.
I truly enjoy Ms. Scott’s writing. She has an uncanny ability to capture the essence of teenagers and new adults. She does this with clear eyes and a caring heart. She also does it with flair; she has a fun writing style that captures my interest.
“She’s walking confetti.” –Josselyn
The story has a bit of a cliffhanger. I might be homicidal if I didn’t know that the follow up book will be published a few months after the release of A Boy Like You. That said, if one is not the type of reader who needs everything wrapped up in a pretty bow by the last page, A Boy Like You could be read as a standalone. However, with writing this good, you won’t want to stop there! Ms. Scott promises that all will be revealed in the soon to be released second book in this duet, A Girl Like Me.
There are magical gems in this book world of ours—those who deliver the kinds of books that do all sorts of crazy things to your heart. You can tell they pour their souls into their work, leaving you breathless and hungry for more.
This is the third book from Ginger Scott and all I can say is damn. She creates magic. Romance, friendship, family, heartache–she delivers it all in one brokenly beautiful package.
This is not your typical boy meets girl, sweeps her off her feet and ride off into the sunset story.
We meet Josselyn Winters when she’s a young girl playing at recess and having fun with her best friend, Taryn. Their favorite things to do are play softball and have races in Joss’s yard. Of course there’s a boy–Christopher, a lost, quiet boy who only wishes for a friend. Joss includes him in a race and on that particular day her world changes. In a heartbeat all she knew and loved is torn to shreds and Christopher is the one person who rescues? her.
Flash forward to years past and Joss is a trouble seeker. She drowns her pain in bad decisions and phony smiles. She’s brass and balls on the outside, but on the inside she’s slowly sinking. Softball keeps her occupied and she is amazing at it, but it doesn’t distract her from the pain she bares. She prays for the day she’ll meet another boy like Christopher–one who will make her feel safe, loved and not so alone.
Wes Stokes comes into the picture—he’s the beautiful, shy type and Joss is slowly swept off her feet. Their friendship is formed through their love of the game—she’s actually one of the few people who can take any pitch he throws.
“I love the way you see me. I do… You make me want to live up to your expectations. I’m afraid I’ll disappoint them, though.”
Over time, their friendship grows and Wes and Joss become more. This isn’t an instalove romance. You’re with them as they discover their feelings and it will make your heart melt.
“You have always made me feel like I belong,” Wes says, brushing another soft kiss over my lips and resting his head on mine, his eyes closed.
“You have always made me feel like I matter,” I say back, my head shaking at the memory of his embraces during my darkest times.
I won’t give away anymore of the details than I’ve already shared. But what I can tell you is that you will laugh, you will cry, and most of all you will FEEL. This is the kind of book I love.
“The quiet boy loving the firecracker girl…”
Ginger Scott has become one of my favorites. I know that when I dive into one of her books, I will be lost for hours in the characters and plot that she creates. Her writing is incredible and her ability to put you there—right in the fields with her characters—whether hearing the crack of the bat, seeing the stars filling the sky, feeling the touch of a first kiss. It’s so bright and brilliant and clear, your “in” the book, not just reading it.
This is one for the record books. A gentle, amazing hero and a heroine who is a fighter. And I adored them both. Don’t miss the chance to fall in love with A Boy Like You.
