Books like this bring History to life.
This story takes place during the years of 1717 – 1721 when the French were trying to settle Louisiana by sending convicts to the new world. The hitch was they had to marry a stranger and be fruitful and multiply to populate the new country. The problem was that the French government was sending people to a wild country with insufficient supplies or soldiers to make it there. There’s a lot of history mixed in with a story that will keep you reading into the night.
A great historical novel about the child-king set in the US, but in keeping with the European flavor through interesting characters.
I liked this book very much. I learned some of the history of New Orleans that I didn’t know. It was based on real occurrences which I found very interesting. It was well written with many surprises. I really liked the characters and most of all it was hard to put down
I liked the historical context and accuracy
Loved learning the history of Australia. England would send their convicts there to this last that wasn’t developed ofor punishment. One person was assigned to live their for two years. It was a colony which the governor made into a country
a good read about a period I don’t know much about.
I had such high hopes for this novel. I really wanted to enjoy it; however, I could not get into the story-line. I was disappointed from the get-go and could only get about 1/4 of the way into the novel. I am going to put it down for now and hopefully pick it back up again at a later day.
