Oh this is so good! Magic, mayhem, destiny and love! In order to break a curse placed on Merlin, Rolf needed Melissa to fall in love with him, without him using magic or deceit. Melissa, however, had been betrothed to Charles since she was ten years old and had come to London to meet and marry him. And so began a rather exciting conflict. The story is artfully told and the characters are wonderful. I love how the King defers to his Queen, who plays an intrical part in this tale. Charles is a duplicitous bully….and if you can read this book without wishing him harm, you are a better person than I. Melissa is a dutiful daughter who comes into her own when she gets a gift from the Queen. Her mother Agnes is hoot. She tries to be an appropriate wife and mother, but makes some rather inappropriate remarks; while Melissa’s father is completely caught up in what match will be the most advantageous to him. William is a gem. He’s loyal, considerate and the one person you want to have your back in any situation. Cristiana, Trystan, Elsa and Edric make up Rolf’s eclectic, adoring and supportive family. And then there is Rolf (insert sigh here). He is smart, an accomplished soldier, has learned his magic well, and is head over heels in love with Melissa. You will find action, emotion, deception, lore, magic, surprises and a happy ending within these pages…..but start reading early in the day, lest you be up all night, as it is difficult to escape once you enter its magic.

Rolf’s and Melissa
A quest to free Merlin from the Rowan tree and having to find his one true love This story is captivating, heartfelt love story born of strength, survival and eternal trust. They found out what true love means and showed it. True love means willing to give your life for your loved one.
I received a free ARC of this novel via Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review. My opinion is my own.
I had never read anything by this author in the past. I must say that I was pretty impressed with this story. The plot grabbed my attention immediately and kept me reading until I was finished. I loved the interactions between the characters. Ms. Wynne did an excellent job making me love all the characters except for the protagonist. I couldn’t wait for him to get his due. I will definitely look for more by this author!
This is well written book and tells a great story. It’s about the curse placed on Merlin to run until his descendents found their love and got their love without the use of magic. If this didn’t happen for the tree died Merlin died. I recommend this book as its very good book…
This is a fantastical tale of Merlin being trapped in the tree, and the curse upon his descendants. Rolf is compelling and has a lot of Merlin’s magic. To break the curse, he has to have a woman fall in love with him without magic. Melissa, the woman he dreams about has one issue against him, she is already betrothed to another. This story is action-packed and full of passion. The chemistry between these two is magnetic and the author does an excellent job with that chemistry.
An interesting medieval romance with Merlin as a side character. I liked the main characters. I liked the romance. I will look for more by this author.
Always a fan of a twist of Merlin’s story!
I liked the style because it was so beautiful and detailed that I could imagine the era and the world easily.
I liked the characters, they both had their development and great chemistry.
It was a great adventure!

This is a fast paced, interesting and dramatic story. Rolf is the last chance that Merlin has, he must win the heart of his true love to save Merlin. The problem for Rolf is that his true love is betrothed to someone else. Rolf must fight the Duke of Sutherland in order for his love, Melissa, to be free and end the curse. The storyline is intense, suspenseful and intriguing.

I greatly enjoyed this historical romance full of magic, duty, betrayal, and love. It’s a tale of destined love, duty vs. desire, heroes and villains. I love a good historical romance, and this one has elements of magic to boot. A very good plot that moved quickly, plenty of adventure, and strong characters with great chemistry.

I love medieval stories that center around the life of Merlin. Who would have thought someone would get one over on him. Merlin has tried for generations to become free of his curse. The first-born male of his blood line would come under his tutelage to be trained in the magic arts and to become a fierce warrior. Rolf was the end of Merlin’s line and all depended on his success to free Merlin from his curse. Rolf’s fated mate was Melissa. But there were dangerous complications surrounding them. A mad man was keeping Rolf from his intended. An excellent high suspense story. A very good read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Back in Merlin’s time, he had unwisely cast a spell to win Vivien’s heart. She took exception to her choice being taken away from her, so she cast a spell on him. The spell was that “The firstborn of each generation will be given one chance to embrace his true love without the use of enchantment or deceit. You have until the death of this Rowan to save yourself and the magical legacy of your line.” Rolf Arbrec is a firstborn of his line; and the Roman tree is now dying. They do not have much time to defeat the curse. It is even more difficult because the woman Rolf wants is already engaged to someone else, as family-arranged betrothals were common at that time for alliances or some other advantage.
Melissa’s family was travelling to London to attend the coronation of Henry Plantagenet, and she would also meet her betrothed, Charles Roker, the Duke of Sunderland. They stopped for a brief rest and Melissa walked into the woods and followed a pleasant chant. In front of her she saw a very handsome man who suddenly turned to stare at her. She was drawn to him. He was holding her with enchantment. But voices and footsteps behind her caused him to release the hold and she turned to see what was happening. Her father reprimanded her for disappearing. When she turned again, the handsome man was gone but a falcon with the man’s golden eyes landed on a nearby branch. Rolf had dreamed of her his entire life and she was even more beautiful in person! When her family got to the inn, she went to bed and dreamed of the falcon who turned into the man! He told her she was his destiny and then disappeared; but she knew he watched her from afar, and the sound of a soft chant lulled her back to sleep.
Melissa looked up at the castle and saw the falcon again. Then her father introduced her to Lord Roker. His voice sounded welcoming, but the blank, dark gaze did not match his voice. He looked at her curves and she saw a hunger that left her feeling vulnerable. The men discussed the ceremony as if she were not even there! As the Duke kissed Melissa’s fingers, a falcon flew down so close that some of the Duke’s hair was pulled free! With Rolf aware of his competition, will he be able to move forward with his love for Melissa? Or will she be forced to honor the marriage contract with the Duke who turns out not to be a very nice man?
This was a wonderful, well-written story with ample details to help the reader envision the area. The story line moved at a slow pace that let the reader get to know the characters and watch them mature and develop. Rolf was a likable characters even back in his childhood when he so easily put duty and honor ahead of his own possible wishes. Melissa was an innocent, groomed by her mother for the role young ladies had to play in society. The author did a wonderful job allowing the reader to see what life was like at that time, especially amid the coronation of King Henry II. Grab your copy and enjoy this wonderful story that has a touch of magic. You won’t regret it!
The start of a new series called A Medieval Encounter a well written story that kept me turning pages. I know I want to read the next story. Melissa Garrick and Rolf Abrec’s story has suspense, drama, danger, kidnapping, a very evil man, Merlin, and romance. A book I enjoyed reading.
This is a great medieval romance. The author does a such great job of describing the people and places, it makes you feel like you are actually there. Rolf and Melissa seem to be destined to be together but there are obstacles in their way – mainly an arranged marriage between her and Charles of Sunderland. Loved seeing how the story progressed, the variety of personalities, and the interactions between Rolf and Melissa.
The legend of Merlin has always been fascinating and will continue to be so forever. A magic spell was cast on Merlin and he has been encased in a tree that is dying. Time is running out before he dies and Rolf, who he has trained in magic, is to be the one who breaks the spell. Rolf has to find true love without using magic. How hard could that be? He becomes the royal wizard to King Henry II
Melissa, engaged to a duke since childhood, has begun to have powerful dreams about a man with dark hair. Miraculously he exists and she meets him at the King’s coronation. As she listens to his story of Merlin, curses and fated love, she wars with herself what to do. She has a duty to marry the duke but Rolf’s kisses make her forget everything and only want to be with him!
A magical story that is told with amazing historical knowledge and great character creation by this author. Once you start on the first page, you will not be able to put it down until the last page is turned! Do not miss this highly entertaining tale!

When Rolf finally discovers the woman who can end the curse that has plagued his family for centuries, she is already betrothed. Time is running out for the royal wizard of King Henry II.
Melissa is intrigued by the mystical, handsome man that haunts her dreams. His bizarre tale of Merlin trapped in a dying rowan tree, enchantments, and finding genuine love has her questioning everything.
An enchanting romance which grabbed me from the start. I really liked Rolf & Melissa & their trials & tribulations. I enjoyed the setting of the court & times of Henry II. I always find love at first sight hard to believe, however Rolf & Melissa were instantly attracted to each other & their attraction led to friendship as well as love. A very enjoyable read & I hope there are more books to come in the series
My honest review is for a copy I received from Booksprout & which I voluntarily read
Rolf’s Quest – This story has an overview, which I appreciate knowing what the story is about before I read it. The few books I’ve read by Ms. Wynne I have enjoyed immensely, and I found this book entertaining. The well thought out storylines of Merlin’s curse, magic, true love and the journeys that need to be traveled meshed together into an interesting story. There’s plenty of romance, danger, intrigue and suspense. While not my favorite genre anymore, Merlin and company, this book kept my interest anyway. I contacted the author to review her books and received this one through Booksprout. 4*
To Cast a Cliche #2 – I had so much fun reading this short long on cliches. I laughed all the way through. If you don’t know the less common cliches or even the most common, this short is over your head. While the Queen was naughty, she wasn’t evil. The curse was actually mild and easily broken. She did have a good side, she kept her promises. While I understand the title, the book is clean and fast paced. This is a well written short that weaves the cliches into an entertaining read. 4*
For the Love of Laura Beth #4 – I absolutely love Ms. Wynne’s books and this is my favorite of the one I have read. Life before, during and after the Korean War, and the lives of the families of the bride and groom living and suffering through this period of time. The storylines are interesting, while the characters just tug at your heart and you want to know what happens next. There is sadness, joy and a gamut of emotions that keep you from putting the book down. The vivid descriptions let you be there with all the characters and the events. Even everyday life isn’t boring. There’s no profanity, explicit sex or violence, but a great understanding of what everyone faces and faced. This is not a book to speed read but to savor each page. I couldn’t stop reading. I contacted the author to review her books and receive this book through Booksprout. 5*
Dante’s Gift – I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Well written with a conversational style, this interesting story blended the past with the present creating a heartwarming, loving feeling. The characters are funny, likable and realistic, along with their dialog. The storylines meshed together immersing the reader and too quickly the end appeared. A quickly read, relaxing book. Clean with no profanity. Needs minor editing. 4*
Saving Grace – This is my first read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Well written and intriguing, a good historical background well blended with the present immerses the reader deep into the pages. There’s a touch of magic bringing a fantasy element to the story, which adds a richness to an already lovely story. The parallels between Chloe and Grace are similar even though there’s 300 years between them; prejudice and hatred still exist. Korinna’s story and her part in this story adds to the magic. Even with the dark, the light shines through and too soon the story is finished. Clean with no profanity. Needs minor editing. 4*
A very intense, busy , exciting, intriguing, suspenseful book. It definitely keeps you turning pages. The characters mesh so well with the story line. Loved it. It is one you just have to read to get it all. It is worth it though. I was given a review copy by booksprout and voluntarily review it.
What a wonderful tale that involves fated love, wizardry and a curse! I’ve always enjoyed stories that involve Merlin and this one was no exception. Rolf and Melissa are fated to fall in love and break the curse that holds Merlin trapped inside a tree. It’s not as easy as it sounds, though, and they face many obstacles before they find their HEA, one of them being a mad Duke!! All in all, a delightful book that I read in one day. Nicely done!!
